Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto has informed IGN today that some of the game’s bosses can not be beaten by Sonic unless he transforms into Super Sonic, leading to speculation that some of the later bosses could pose to be quite a handful for players to defeat. To become Super Sonic in Sonic Frontiers, players will have to acquire and use all seven Chaos Emeralds in the open zone game. Sonic Frontiers launches on 8th September.
“Normally in Sonic games you’ll encounter a boss and you’ll fight them as regular, blue Sonic. In Sonic Frontiers, there will be bosses that blue Sonic can’t even scratch,” Kishimoto said. “But if he collects and uses all seven Chaos Emeralds, he can become Super Sonic and then battle those bosses. Becoming Super Sonic will be the only way to fight them.”
“Up until now, in Sonic games, Super Sonic would only appear against the last boss. Imagine if the first boss in Sonic Frontiers is as strong as those bosses,” the director said.

Because it’s soo appealing to have a protagonist who always needs to rely on a foreign power-up to fight bosses. They’re repeating the exact same mistake as Toriyama does with having Goku/Vegeta go super saiyan in every fight now.
I swear, Sonic Team’s acting like they’re suddenly amateurs to game design.
That has conflicting statements. Either, they’ve always been amateurs (which is a false and subjective opinion) or they’ve been amateurs only for the past decade.
Your exact words; ” “Suddenly”? They’ve always been amateurs at game design lol.”
You corrected my statement even tho it was my personal opinion and said Sonic Team has always been amateurs like its a fact. Acting like an amateur (what I said) and being an amateur (what you said) are 2 different things entirely. It’s false because Sonic Team has had successful games in the past and they have over 2 decades of experience, so no they’re not amateurs anymore. It’s subjective because its your opinion that Sonic Team has always been amateurs, which is still a false statement as I just said. If you had said “In my opinion” or “I don’t agree” with my opinion, then you would be correct, however you didn’t. They have years of experience and have had successful games, so they weren’t always amateurs. Again, that’s a false and subjective opinion you tried to state as a fact.
Before you try to correct me, acknowledge the flaws in your comment and correct yourself.
I wouldn’t say Super is a foreign power up tbh. Super is more like an upgrade for Sonic’s innate abilities. This is how it’s portrayed with how they’ve treated it as solely for Sonic and Shadow in recent times even going as far as retconning out Tails’ and Knuckles’ Super forms.
As for why they’re using Super for normal gameplay, honestly it’s probably a way to mix up the gameplay so it doesn’t get stale. Having to work to get the emeralds in order to take down the big boss would help with the possible monotony of the normal combat
I say foreign because at the end of the day, they need a power source that doesn’t belong to them (sol emeralds, chaos emeralds, chaos rings, seven rings, chaos energy, negative chaos emeralds, etc). Without an external power source, they can’t go super at all.
But it’d still get stale. Previously, it was stay in base form for all bosses and go super in the last fight. Now its stay super in all bosses and likely get a new power up in the last fight.
Sonic & the bosses have both gotten a +1 so nothing’s changed. If just the bosses increased in difficulty and the player now needs to be strategic and plan out the fight, then that would mix up the gameplay. But instead both sides have gotten a boost, so nothing has been mixed up.
While I see your point, I think it’s probably too soon to say for sure that “nothing’s changed”. We haven’t seen exactly how the titan boss fights work yet, but we have seen how at least one of them easily overwhelms Sonic in his base form. Personally, I think the titan boss fights sound really cool.
My main concern with Frontiers is that it’ll get padded out with a whole bunch of fluff content that doesn’t really do much overall. It’s possible that the titan fights could wind up feeling all too similar to each other (a concern I have with differentiating the base form fights from one another), so I can understand the thought of everything becoming stale
Well this is probably proof that unlocking Super Sonic is done through playing the game rather than several bonus levels that have you pulling your hair out. Despite my cautious feeling about the the rest of the game and if its worth a buy, this is good news. As long as the Super Sonic remains an optional power-up at least I won’t be driven crazy just trying to unlock him this time. Now fingers crossed that this game is worth the money as I have yet to feel confidence in buying this game.
Yeah it is worth the money even so Sonic Team has been slacking off during there recent years of past Sonic games. So, I believe this game has a little potential to repair the series.
Might want to fix the article Sickr you put September 8. The game launches November 8th.
Sweet, the game already came out despite not actually. I get it, it’s gonna be a very long day if you made boo-boos. Good article regardless.
This is pretty great, imo. Having something to actually push Sonic into having to do this is nice for a change.
ok so theres stuff built around the mechanics whats the problem
