Pilotwings 64 seems to run at 60fps on Switch Online + Expansion Pack

We learned earlier this week that the next Nintendo 64 game for subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is the glorious Pilotwings 64, which is arguably one of the best games on Nintendo’s legacy system. YouTube channel GameXPlain has produced a comparison video of the recent trailer for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack version of Pilotwings 64 compared to the Nintendo 64 version of Pilotwings, which was around 30fps when it launched back on the N64 in 1996. The video footage of Pilotwings 64 running on the Switch is set at 60fps which will offer users a much smoother experience and should make it the definitive edition. It is not clear whether Nintendo will now patch the current batch of games on the Nintendo 64 app to run at 60fps. This would be a great incentive for those still on the fence about subscribing to the pricer service. Pilotwings 64 arrives on the N64 app for Switch this Thursday.

  1. A lot of these older games used frames to determine the timing of many things, so they can’t be brought into 60fps with the flip of a switch (pun not intended). Perhaps this game was not timed to frames to begin with, making the 60fps change an easy task? I assume that’s the case, but if not, this is honestly a really impressive effort for this service.

    1. The game was already made to run at 60fps. It’s just tht it culd only run at 60 on the menu’s and stayed around 30 during gameplay. Now tht its on a system like Switch, it cant b held back by the power of the N64. Thus making the game easily able to play at 60fps.
