Bubsy creator Mike Berlyn has passed away at the age of 73

There is some sad news to report to you tonight. It has been announced earlier this week that game designer, programmer and writer Mike Berlyn, who was also involved with gaming companies such as Infocom and Accolade, has passed away at the age of 73. The cause of death is not known at this time.

Berlyn was involved with the development of a lot of retro video games, including Tass Times in Tonetown, Cutthroats and much more. He is most known for being the creator of Bubsy, being the designer for Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind and Bubsy 3D.

Berlyn’s impact on the gaming industry wasn’t just with Bubsy. In 1992, Berlyn and software engineer Marc Blank founded Blank, Berlyn & Co. Later on, the company was reformed into Bend Studio. Bend Studio became the developer of the Syphon Filter games and, most recently, Days Gone.

    1. I was indifferent to the guy until I read this comment. That’s- really accurate if you stop and think about it.

      RIP

  1. Good lord, I was literally discussing Bubsy (and Accolade) just yesterday in a discussion board with some other users.

    RiP Mike Berlyn.
