Zelda producer says no DLC for Zelda: Tears of Kingdom as rather make a new entry

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been a huge success for Nintendo both critically and sales-wise. Speaking to popular Japanese gaming site, Famitsu, Mr. Aonuma confirmed that they are not working on downloadable content for the latest Zelda title, like they did for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which got two paid expansions. Mr. Aonuma says that have finished that particular storyline and are ready to move onto their next Zelda project, which will be on whatever hardware Nintendo brings out next.

Famitsu: Now, I would like to hear about the next production that you are interested in. …… I think there are many possibilities, whether it is a further sequel or a new stage.

Fujibayashi: “I don’t know if this will be the next one or not, but I am thinking about what the “next fun experience” will be. I can only say that I do not know what form that will take at this point.”

Aonuma: “There are no plans to release additional content this time, because we feel that we have exhausted the possibilities of creating play in that world. The reason why we decided to make this a sequel to the previous game in the first place is because we felt that new play was worth experiencing in that Hyrule place. Then, if those reasons are renewed, we may go back to the same world. Whether it is a sequel or a new work, I think it will be a whole new play, and I hope you will look forward to it.”

  1. I’m totally fine with that! After playing hundreds of hours in BotW, AoC and TotK i feel like im done with this world of Hyrule and all the characters. I’m so ready for a brand new Zelda game, i’d rather want them to start with the next one straight away.

  2. Im kinda surprised they don’t try and nickel and dime the fanbase knowing the amount of profits from Totk, and milk this cash cow with expansions or some form of additional content.

    1. You are confusing them with Activision-Blizzard and EA, their “DLC” is chunks of the game that they butchered to nickel and dime sheep. Their games are always incomplete. The whole point of DLC is extra content which EA and Activision-Blizzard never do, they resell chunks of the game behind multiple paywalls and people don’t do anything about it.

  3. Hear me out, Yona mentions that she’s from a Zora’s Domain from a different part of the world, so what if part of rebuilding Hyrule includes forming alliances with other countries outside of Hyrule? Have Link and Zelda visit a different continent for some diplomacy, but things go wrong and a new game begins.

There’s still the same potential that comes with starting fresh if they visit a new continent, but this way we still get more of this Link and Zelda. A different continent means more new characters (and possibly new races), and no Hyrule means there wouldn’t be any fatigue from visiting the same Hyrule for a third time. Plus I’m sure the creative team is a bit tired of working within that Hyrule and would rather a new location altogether as well.

With this setup, they can do literally anything they want while still letting us spend time with this Link and Zelda that we’ve all grown to love so much.

    1. Hard No. one it would t be in Hyrule anymore and two that is not how any Zelda’s have ever worked. Everything is about protecting Hyrule.

      1. Link’s Awakening, the Oracle duology, Majora’s Mask, Phantom Hourglass and Tri Force Heroes all say hi, seeing as they all take place outside of Hyrule.

So no, not “everything” is about protecting Hyrule.
I’m inclined to believe that you’re not a particularly big fan of the series if you’re not even aware that these games don’t taking place in Hyrule, so I’m not sure why you decided to make such an ignorant statement.

      2. Majora’s Mask and Link’s Awakening are my favorite Zelda games. I guess I can see where we diverge a bit as fans of the series lol

  4. Not surprised, regardless of how you feel towards TotK the game is already crammed with enough content as it is. The Zelda team taking their time and focus on the next Zelda game(s) is a much better choice.

  5. Thank God!

DLC for a single player story driven game like TotK is pointless, in fact I hate DLC in general.

The only games that should get DLC are multi-player games that get DLC updates like Splatoon.

Just make a finished game, release it and then go on to the next game.

I hope DLC for single player games dies out.

  6. When asked about how his current role as the founder of his own studio might affect the likelihood of collaborating with Nintendo on a new F-Zero installment, Nagoshi humorously deferred to Nintendo, emphasizing that it’s ultimately their decision.,…………………moneytimepay

  7. Thank god, I absolutely adore Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild but Zelda as a franchise is so much more than just this.

  8. I loved Zelda BoTW and Zelda ToTk I never played Age of Calamity and Majoras Mask I own Every Zelda game and Played Every Zelda game Accept Age of Calamity and Majoras Mask Simply Because Nintendo + is ridiculously expensive other wise I would give it a shot but many of my friends who are Zelda Fans did not like it because it was timed if it wasnt timed that it would have been a better game everyone has the right to their opinions but someday hopefully ill get my chance at Majoras Mask Thank You Zelda team for such a great Franchise filled with Beauiful sceneries, unique characters and Zelda and Link I cant wait to see what happens Next!!

  9. I wasn’t the biggest fan of BotW’s DLC but I still expected Tears DLC with more stuff to build and go even more crazy. But I do love that they just ignore the fact that they could earn millions more and move on because it feels more reasonable. They put so damn much into tears, I don’t see me bouncing off for a long while. Over 100 hours now and still just one dungeon done.
