Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 6 DLC out now, Version 3.0.0 update released (patch notes)

You may recall that, last week, Nintendo had officially announced that the 6th and final wave of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass would be releasing on November 9th. Of course, when the release of a new wave of DLC occurs, it usually coincides with an update to the base game.

Well, Nintendo has released the 6th wave of the Booster Course Pass tonight. The new content also comes with an update to the base game, bringing the game to version 3.0.0. Most of the update, according to the patch notes, focuses on fixing bugs and making some gameplay adjustments. You can see the patch notes in full down below.

Support for DLC
  • Added paid DLC: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, Wave 6 (two cups, eight courses, four characters, 17 Mii racing suits).
General
  • Added “Music” button to the top menu.
    • This is a feature where you can listen to the background music that plays during the game, as you like.
    • Even players who don’t own the Booster Course Pass can listen to the background music of the DLC courses.
  • Added feature where other players who aren’t friends can join in a Room.
    • After creating a room, press the + Button or – Button to display the Room ID on the Room screen, and tell your fellow racers the Room ID.
    • The other racers can join by entering the Room ID in “Search by Room ID.”
  • Made it so that you can create a Room even if you have 0 friends registered.
  • Added staff credits for the Booster Couse Pass.

  • Increased the invincibility time of a portion of characters and vehicle customizations.
  • Made it so that you can’t acquire strong items when taking an Item Box by stopping or driving in reverse, or taking an Item Box that is in same location multiple times during a race.
  • Shortened the time between when an Item Box is acquired by someone until it is restored.
  • Lowered the appearance rate of Mirror and 200cc in “Worldwide” and “Regional.”

  1. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Ultimate. Seriously, how does Nintendo top these two titans? These games are both more content than we ever expected. They will have to supplement content for new ideas or a reboot that reimagines how these games are played to continue progressing these two franchises.

  2. Can’t believe its the last DLC and its here now. I wonder how Nintendo does these type of things in their development times with their games. Both Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. Ultimate content are neck and neck.

    1. It’s a drag that they took the lazy route with Peachette. I was personally hoping for Dixie or Cranky. However, it’s such a gas to have Funky and Diddy back that I can almost forgive it

  3. Awesome, in addition to the final tracks and characters, they surprised us with over a dozen new Mii suits (though there’s no Waluigi one further proving they just hate the character), added a jukebox feature, and addressed an unfair tactic players would use to win races by camping item boxes for strong items (bagging, I believe this is called).

My only complaint is that no new kart parts- bodies, tires, or gliders- were added, but otherwise, what a finale.

  4. the same spot multiple times in a race seems a punishment for consistent curves if theres no cooldown, or reset per lap

    1. Maybe it needs testing to verify, but I don’t think you would actually get punished for hitting the same item box if you’re running the race normally; it wouldn’t make sense to limit what items you get just because you drift through a corner the same way every lap. Like, maybe it resets every lap, or the game checks how many other different item boxes you hit before getting that specific box again and if it’s too low, you won’t receive a strong item.
