Nintendo has announced that it won’t be participating in this year’s Gamescom event which takes place in Cologne, Germany in August. The Kyoto-based company informed Eurogamer that this is the case and said that fans will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year. Eurogamer points out that Nintendo has consistently appeared at Gamescom in the past. Here’s what a Nintendo spokesperson told the site:

“Gamescom is a great event, and each year we evaluate whether Nintendo should participate or not. After careful consideration from all perspectives, we’ve made the decision not to be present at gamescom 2024. Players will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year.”

    1. Everyone said the same thing last year when we just had engage, Bayonetta, and Kirby, and than Nintendo just randomly drops a direct featuring wonder , smrpg, wario ware and a couple of brand new games slated for fall, that being said I’m really only expecting two brand new first party games this year and the rest being ports or remaster.

      1. Stop calling Bayonetta a Nintendo IP. How do you go from not starting out on a Nintendo system, be published by Nintendo’s former rival, make references to Sega’s IPs, and other factors to being a “””Nintendo””” IP without drugs being taken? Do you actually think Bayonetta is a Nintendo IP, or are you just saying that so you can fulfill your agenda of turning Super Smash Bros into Sega vs Nintendo?

        1. 3 out of 4 bayonetta titles are only on nintendo consoles, safe to say that for now if you want to enjoy bayonetta, you need to own nintendo devices.. or you know emulate them but that doesn’t count.

      2. Well, I’ll change my mind when I see something, hopefully I’m wrong but i think it’s pretty sure this year is weak cause Nintendo is preparing for the “big thing” that every Nintendo fan has been waiting for

      3. Since they have nothing big and are treading water until Super Switch, this is the time they need to do things like Game Fest. They need to keep people engaged and not have all the good switch momentum come to a halt before they reveal the super switch. This is the time to do fun marketing and events that connect with the fans.

  1. I won’t be at Gamescom this year either and I’m not surprised that Nintendo won’t be with the Switch successor on the horizon they most likely have nothing to show at the moment.

  2. Last year it was leaked from Gamescom that Nintendo presented the Switch 2 behind closed doors. I guess Nintendo didn’t like that…
