Upcoming indie Metroidvania, Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus, will have music composed by Manami Kiyota, one of the main composers for the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy- most famous for her work on Satorl Marsh Night and Eryth Sea from the first Xenoblade Chronicles and its remaster. Developer Squid Shock Studios shared the news on the game’s Kickstarter page, and Kiyota posted on X to celebrate the collaboration.
Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus is based on Japanese folklore and has several Another Metroid 2 Remake (AM2R) developers on its team. According to its Kickstarter campaign, the game is inspired by the likes of Okami, Hollow Knight, Paper Mario, Dust Force and Celeste, as well as anime from Studio Ghibli- among others. It will arrive on Nintendo Switch in just a few more days, on July 18th.

On a somewhat related note, Dust Force was an amazing and hard game.
It looks amazing loves japanese flavour
Path of the Teal Lotus really feels like the perfect match — her music has a way of giving every scene a sense of wonder, and that fits beautifully with the game’s folklore-inspired world. What’s exciting is how the project blends influences from titles like Okami and Hollow Knight while still carving out its own identity. With Kiyota’s soundtrack in the mix, the atmosphere is almost guaranteed to be something special. It’s always great to see indie teams bringing in talent that elevates the entire experience, and this collaboration definitely feels like one worth watching.
Kiyota joining the project really takes the excitement to another level. Her music has this incredible ability to turn environments into emotional experiences, which fits perfectly with a game rooted in Japanese folklore. What I love most is how Path of the Teal Lotus isn’t just borrowing from classics like Okami or Hollow Knight—it’s shaping those inspirations into something that feels fresh and expressive. With such strong artistic direction and now a composer known for crafting unforgettable atmospheres, it genuinely feels like this indie title is gearing up to be something special.
This collaboration is a huge win for Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus — Manami Kiyota’s music always adds emotional depth and a sense of wonder to exploration-heavy games. Her style fits perfectly with the game’s Japanese folklore roots and Metroidvania pacing. It’s exciting to see indie projects investing so much in atmosphere and sound design, since those elements often define how memorable a game feels. Discussions around creative presentation and community sharing, even on platforms like eerome, really show how much players value artistry alongside gameplay.
