The highly-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is not too far off now and has subsequently received a 10+ rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board. What’s more interesting is that the rating summary reveals Link is a playable character in the game. It’s not clear whether Link is only playable at the start of the adventure or if he becomes playable later into it too. We will probably find out nearer the time of release which is 26th September.
Rating Summary
This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link. From a ¾-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle. Some enemies can be defeated by being set on fire; other creatures dissolve into mist when defeated. Battle sequences are somewhat frenetic, with several enemies attacking/fighting at once.

Twitter will be very upset about this.
You are talking to a brick wall, I don’t see how anyone is going to be upset about having multiple options
ok boomer
Why are you calling him a boomer for saying people won’t be upset? Your logic is backwards.

You probably only play as Link during the intro we saw in the trailer before it switches to Zelda.
I have a feeling it due to these rifts we can play as link as well as Zelda
Zelda is definitely the primary protagonist of the game. The amount of time we’ll play as Link will pale in comparison to how long we’ll play as her. They developed an entirely new gameplay system specifically to play as her; why would they undermine that by making Link playable for an equal amount of time?
I’m hoping that we can “unlock” Link after we beat the game or something, but no way will he be playable for the majority of the run time.
I’m guessing this is just for the opening of the game, then?
It’s very possible that he is playable only for the very beginning of the game leading up to the sequence that we saw in the original trailer. Or perhaps he is unlockable halfway through the game and you are then able to switch between characters. We shall see.
I’m gonna keep my glass half empty for now. I’m assuming they’re just talking about the beginning. I can think of two possible alternatives. 1, You play as Link in another setting, like the dark world in A Link to the Past, Lowrule in the Zelda game that should not be named, or the depths in Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo has a habit of not letting Link and Zelda be together without us being unable to enjoy it. Or 2, The game rewards us with the ability to play as Link if we beat it in a harder difficulty like Mega Man ZX which lets us use Model X alone even after acquiring Model Z if we beat the game in a harder difficulty. Come to think of it, the fact that you can play as the original protagonist in the beginning alone is a step in the right direction compared to Luigi’s mansion.
That text could be interpreted differently and might not confirm Link as playable. I read that more like “usually in a Legend of Zelda game Link uses his sword, but in THIS Legend of Zelda game you use Zelda and a magic wand”.
I don’t know why you’re losing your minds about this, the first 43 seconds of the trailer at the Direct confirmed Link as a playable character.
Wrong.
pfffff its the esrb. 20 bucks says the game starts pre title sequence with you controlling link, fighting his way to the castle ….you know like in the trailer? And thats considering whatever idiots that actually contribute to the ratings actually were able to play the game and arent going off of written statements and synopses, and video footage they were shown.
not that im against a legend of Zelda choose your hero game but come on… think logically for half a second
