Nintendo president doesn’t believe the presence of successor will have much impact on Switch Christmas sales

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has told Japanese news site Mainichi that he doesn’t believe that the “presence or absence of a successor will have much impact on customers who are purchasing [the Switch].” This was in response to being asked whether or not the presence of the next Nintendo console will affect sales of the current Nintendo Switch during the all-important Christmas shopping season, which is when video game companies make the majority of their money.

“President Furukawa said about the details of the Nintendo Switch successor, “There is no change in the plan to announce it during the fiscal year ending March 2025. I can’t say anything more than that.” Regarding potential hesitation to purchase the current model due to the announcement of a successor, he added, “I can’t say it doesn’t exist at all, but the Switch is already in its eighth year since launch. I don’t think the presence or absence of a successor will have much impact on customers who are purchasing it at this time.”

  1. I agree, I don’t think openly acknowledging the inevitable existence of a successor will hurt Switch’s sales much at this point. But if they really believe that, then why are they not announcing it?

    1. It’s backwards compatible so it really won’t hurt them cause people who were holding out on the original switch will just pick up the games and play them on the successor, as why they haven’t announced it I’m still confuse on that reason on wells.

  2. Even people who dont know anything about the successor can just look to the system and say, there are no games coming out for it. As much as I love TTYD and Emio and Xenoblade X they arent moving the needle in any signifigant way with Billy and his mom shopping at Target.

Now granted, its competition has been shooting itself in the foot for the last year due to incredibly stupid things. (Concord, PS5 Pro, the pointless of existance of Phil Spencer) but it felt like Nintendo had a chance to say, were about games and here they are.

The reason they arent probably speaks to its coming later than wed like in 2025.

  3. Maybe they havent announced it because of the exclusive features it will have other than a more powerful Switch. If it is revealed way before it goes into production Steam deck and others will have the opportunity to copy it not giving the Switch 2.at.least 3 years being original like the 1st Switch had that opportunity. That’s my reason.
