Stardew Valley creator still doesn’t want to close book on its development

Stardew Valley has been a monumental success all round and the game’s creator Eric Barone says he isn’t ready to close the book on the game just yet despite having a new project in the works, the Haunted Chocolatier. Barone says that if he feels that the game has too much content and that players are starting to feel overwhelmed, then he would stop, but at present he doesn’t feel as though this is happening.

Summers: You’ve said elsewhere that you could work on Stardew Valley for the rest of your life. So I do wonder, do you see a future at some point where you’ll be done with this game, where Stardew Valley feels like it’s complete?

Barone: I think a game can have too much content. And I ultimately want Stardew Valley to be the best game it can be. So if I feel like it’s starting to become kind of overwhelmed with content to the point where it’s detrimental to the game’s entertainment factor, I would stop at that point.

Another thing is, I do want to make more than one game in my life. Including the development time, I’ve been working on Stardew Valley for over 12 years now. But I don’t want to definitively say that the book is ever closed, because I think I will always have a desire to come back and maybe add a thing or two. You know, maybe even 50 years from now, I might add something.

  1. Very fun and relaxing gameplay, 10/10 for enjoyment. I hope you can import save files to the Switch 2 and don’t lose progress.

  2. Terrible repetitive game, devoid of purpose, conflict or challenge, 0/10 for enjoyment and everything else. I hope you can’t import save files to the Switch 2 and the game acts as the virus that it is.

  3. I love the fact that a game has vast amount of content. I like to feel overwhelmed by a games size and content to do, such as Witcher 3 and totk.
In fact there’s a lot of games I’ve played for hours on end and really enjoyed, but got no where near the end. I even spent 300-400hrs playing botw and never did the last boss, not that I got bored or anything, it’s just how it is, il revisit again one day, hopefully on switch 2 with 60fps

  4. Stardew Valley is one of the coziest indie games I’ve played in my life, and I would love to see more development on it, as long as it doesn’t detract Barone from his other projects, like Haunted Chocolatier and such (who knows when that’ll be).

  5. Stardew Valley continues to captivate players even after years of updates, and it’s inspiring to see Eric Barone’s dedication to maintaining the game’s charm while exploring new projects. As a gamer, it’s exciting to imagine potential updates even decades down the line! The gaming community thrives on passion like this, and Stardew Valley is a testament to that.

  6. Wow, that’s exciting to hear! Stardew Valley is one of those rare games that keeps getting better even years after release. I love how ConcernedApe (Eric Barone) still finds ways to surprise the community. Honestly, that’s what makes Stardew Valley so special compared to other farming games it never feels finished in a bad way, it just keeps growing.

I’ve been writing a lot about Stardew lately too, especially tips on fishing rare catches like the Sturgeon. If anyone’s interested, I shared some guides here StardewAPKValley.com

  7. It’s always inspiring to see how Stardew Valley continues evolving instead of being left behind like many other titles. That long-term dedication reminds me of mobile games I enjoy, where updates keep things fresh. For instance, I’ve been exploring HungrySharkModAPKs lately, and it’s interesting how ongoing improvements can make a game feel alive for years.

  8. It’s amazing to see Stardew Valley still getting updates, even after so many years—it shows how much passion goes into indie games. I’ve noticed players who enjoy these evolving titles often look for fresh mobile options too. For me, checking out the latest apk 2025 versions of different games keeps the experience exciting across platforms.

  9. Wow, crossing 2 million units already is huge for the Switch 2! 🎮 It really shows how strong Nintendo’s presence is in Japan. If you’re into the latest gaming news and updates, I’ve been covering some interesting stuff recently.
