Nintendo veteran believes company has “something up their sleeves” with Switch 2

Former Nintendo veteran Takaya Imamura has spoken to Games Radar about his thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2 and says that he believes that the Kyoto-based company still has something up its sleeves when it comes to the upcoming device. While the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed in a teaser trailer, we’ve yet to get the full details on the device and its lineup of video games.

“The Switch has had a really long lifespan, and it sold really well, which must mean that this is something that is a global success,” he says. “It’s got supporters all around the world, and I was thinking it would be difficult to really change that. But having said that, I think they’ve still got something up their sleeves.”

  1. Well we know for a fact they have something up their sleeves, namely the “Mouse-Con”. And we also know that there’s that “C” button (unlabelled on the official reveal) which we do not yet know the function for. We will almost certainly find out about these in the April 2nd Direct.

      1. We don’t know it through official means (them sliding the Joy-Con around a bit on their sides does not count as a reveal for their functionality as a mouse). We also aren’t supposed to have seen the patent that shows it. As far as Nintendo are concerned, they are going to reveal the mouse functionality on 2nd April.

      1. Why would it have to be made by Sakurai? Obviously he’s a great developer, but others are capable of making a sequel as well.

  2. The mouse feature is honestly pretty massive. Those of us that constantly seek Nintendo news are probably desensitized to it by now, but I genuinely believe the mouse feature is the awesome new gimmick

    1. There is one thing that might prove interesting from the reveal of the mouse feature. How do Nintendo foresee people actually using the mouse? The obvious functionality would be if you were playing your console sat up to a desk or something. But Nintendo pretty much always market their consoles being played in a living room/social environment. How is that going to look? Are they gong to have people on a couch hunched over a table in front of them? Or is there a more elegant solution?
