Rumour: Most GameStop stores expecting less than 100 Switch 2 consoles at launch

A rumour is currently doing the rounds online courtesy of Nintendeal that the majority of GameStop stores in North America are expecting less than 100 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles at each store when the system is released on 5th June. The same source says that they have also heard that both Nintendo Switch 2 games and accessories will be “extremely limited.” It is still not clear when Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will go live in North America.

  1. Just like the original Switch, I’m planning on getting the system after a 2 weeks or a month launch. But if they sold out in my local stores like Target or Walmart, then I’m going with a backup plan….. Amazon.

  2. Planning to get mine at BB personally, which offer option to pre-order online then pick up in store. Fingers crossed I can snag one day one!

      1. Storage should be less of a problem this time. Switch 2 has an internal storage of 256 GB, though a fraction of it would be taken up by the system’s OS, so, let’s say there would still be 240 GB left of it.

Nintendo and their partners are wizards when it comes to compressing games without sacrificing much in the way of quality, so their own first-party offerings individually shouldn’t eat up much space. It’s third-party software one ought to be wary of.

article says both. I think Nintendo is expecting to push most people to digital so they can stop having to make the cartridge.

    1. Less than 100 is very reasonable. Most stores didn’t even get in 50 for the first switch. At 100 per store that’s over 200k switches. Add in what real retailers are getting like Target, BB and Walmart alone and you have over 1 million but these stores usually get way more than that so there’s 2 million and then add in Amazon and the Nintendo store themselves. I think that’s pretty reasonable considering most people will be ordering for delivery not in store. I would expect at least 2 million+ consoles in USA at release + online deliveries.

  3. Less than 100. Sounds reasonable. Wasn’t there a time when new consoles were in batches of 10 or less per store?

  4. I understand this could end up being the case but it’s literally a rumour as stated in the post. So maybe don’t get too caught up in this until confirmed real?

  5. I’m not sure how this compares to the early days of the Wii, when they had stock issues well into a full year of the console’s life cycle. But with how controversial Switch 2 already is between current prices and possible price hikes due to tariffs, the current stock may be enough for people who want one during its launch window. Who knows at this point.

  6. Wow, less than 100 units per store sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen I remember the chaos during the original Switch launch, and this might be even worse with how much hype Switch 2 is getting. Guess it’s time to mentally prepare for the long lines, or maybe just wait a few months until restocks become normal.

In the meantime, I’ve been keeping myself entertained with some retro titles and even dabbling in a bit of online gaming over at https://pin-up-online.kz/ —honestly a fun way to pass the time while waiting for pre-orders to open up. Hopefully, Nintendo gives us a heads-up soon so we’re not all left guessing!

  7. “Flailing business continues to flail” would be a more appropriate headline. I don’t know a single soul who still goes to GameStop for their tech.

  8. Is 100 that bad? From memory speaking to the staff at my local Game on Switch launch day they had less than 50 for sure. I don’t know if they serve more or less people than a typical US Gamestop but yeah. And when you consider that this time the hardcore Nintendo fans are quite likely to be pre-ordering through Nintendo as they are reserving preorders for people who have had NSO for a long time and have lots of playtime, then the launch day demand physically might be less.

Good luck to everyone who wants a Switch 2 in getting one anyway!

  9. The article is not saying “less than”. The ~ symbol means “about” or “roughly the same as”. The point of this article is to state that each store should be getting around 100 units for launch (not less than), which is pretty decent.

  10. idontcareidontshopatgamestopsostokedforthisWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

considering the switch was available at launch with about 10 to a store, target, gamestop, best buy, toys r us. id say if we get about 100 at each were in better shape.

    NINtendoSWItchTOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Please were talking about game stop a dying store. They say there getting such and such amount but don’t let’s be real. Almost like when you go in to game stop to buy a new game. And there like oh you got the last one meanwhile there last one has been opened and disc or cart is in a sleve and they then try to pass off as new. Not the case. They put there grubby hands on the product opened it and now have ruined the magic of opening that new game. Put a dummy box art out there for the games and stop ruining it for others game stop..typically why I’ve stopped going to game stop. Go elsewhere and get your stuff your better off….

  12. Wow, that’s a really tight launch for the Nintendo Switch 2! It’s going to be a scramble for pre-orders with so few units available at each GameStop. I can imagine fans camping out or waiting online for hours. When I’m not following gaming news, I like to plan relaxing trips to unwind — places like best beach in Jubail are perfect for taking a break from all the hype. 14. The limited stock rumour makes sense when you look at how Nintendo handled early Switch and OLED supply. They’ve always used scarcity to build hype around launches, even if it frustrates loyal buyers. I’ve seen the same anxiety in horror game communities, where players rush to experience something first before it gets spoiled. If anyone is into survival/puzzle titles while waiting for Switch 2 news, I’ve been documenting my playthroughs here.
