French retailer FNAC has talked about how popular the Nintendo Switch 2 has been since it has been available for pre-order. Hardware sales are apparently at “historic levels” and sales have also been extremely good for the various accessories such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera for GameChat. Here’s some highlights:
- Hardware sales at a historical level
- Stock situation is good but could get tense in June
- Higher average spent by user, closer to core gamers than Nintendo’s more mainstream audience.
- Price won’t be an issue for that demographic
- Accessories at a very high level of sales, especially the Camera.
- Mario Kart bundle extremely popular
- Software sales lagging behind, but should ramp up closer to launch.
- 12 midnight launch events planned, in Paris and in other cities.

In my area in the US, GameStop and other retailers won’t have a midnight launch for the system but they are keeping a eye on the system stock shortages.
I’m glad. I get it that people are excited, and want to be part of something when it launches, but I’ve heard way too many horror stories of people getting robbed, stabbed and even shot over a midnight console release.
Hold on the phone? Did that actually happen?
yes,very much so
I should keep that in mind and be more cautious about it because I never heard anything like this before. If they ever forced to give it up or got it stolening from them by others for the sake of their lives, you can always asked for another one for free as long as they got their receipt on them and they can give you one for free if it gets stolen or broken.
I don’t blame people for fearing for their lives, souls or giving up something that they already brought just to keep themselves safe and keep their lives.
Yeah, it seems like every single time a new system releases, there’s always a few headlines about people getting robbed in parking lots.
That makes proper sense. Not to mention that they get stabbed behind them while the victim wasn’t looking and the killer or suspect runs off with their gaming console without a trace. Yeah that is something I should keep a look out for all around me. Whenever people are excited for something major or big, they get the bad luck by getting robbed, beat up or stab to death over a gaming console.
Just be careful out there if you do end up going to a launch release.
Yes. I will be much careful dude. I will probably go to Target or Walmart after a week or two launch release and pick up my Switch 2 if they have it in stock.
In New Zealand, the rate of stores selling out of preorders matches the Wii U.
My brother, who is a much bigger consumer of video games says me and his friend are the only people he knows who can be bothered to pay for one. And mine is a business acquisition for research purposes.
That’s not the “doom and gloom” scenario you think you’re painting.
If they were able to match the Wii U preorders in spite of this thing being more expensive AND launching in June instead of the holiday season that Wii U launched in, I’d say they’re doing pretty good… especially when Wii U sales WERE actually pretty strong right out of the gate.
How were the preorders for PS5 or XBox Series S/X?
Sold out in less than a day, except the Series S.
Same as Switch 2 then.
It’s easy to sell out when every store got like 3. Or are forget about the chip shortage?
Does it count if the said sales are likely scalpers?
Well, if Nintendo is not making sales based on consignment (fairly certain they do not) then yes the sales count. Nintendo has already made the money through the purchasing by the retailers not the customers like you and me. Nintendo’s customers are the stores that sell the products. The numbers come from the orders that were shipped out to places like gamestop, walmart, target, best buy, whatever. not from you and me at the register. So even if everything was bought up by resellers thats only really bad for the general public. nintendo already got paid and the retailers now, by that point have already been paid…by scalpers.
