Media will not have Switch 2 reviews before launch due to “significant” day one patch

Those of you hoping for early reviews for the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and software shouldn’t expect to see them popping up anytime soon. The Game Business has been doing some digging and the reason for the lack of pre-launch hardware reviews is that the Nintendo Switch 2 will require a “significant” day one update. Further details on said update were not disclosed by The Game Business. We will hopefully have our Nintendo Switch 2 review coverage published at the same time as other publications.

“Some media have even been warned they will not have their machine until launch day. Nintendo has told journalists that this is due to the requirement of a significant day one patch.”

“It’s really frustrating,” said one editor. “We will need to cover Switch 2 while also working across Summer Game Fest. How are we supposed to do that?”

Another added: “Anyone who can get hold of a console early from a dodgy retailer will have a head start in terms of coverage. I know the console will be sold out at launch, but what about all the other games”

One PR boss told me they feel they have “something special” for the launch of Switch 2 for those that “want something else in addition to Mario Kart”.

“But the lack of independent critical validation is going to make it very hard for us. Maybe we would have been better off waiting a few weeks.”
