Nintendo acknowledges Switch 2 battery charge issues and gives fix

Some Nintendo Switch 2 users have noticed that despite their battery charge indicator saying that there’s no life left in the battery in handheld mode, the device continues on for a couple of hours. Obviously there’s something going on there so Nintendo has issued a manual fix that can be done if your Switch 2 is still playable after the battery saying there’s zero charge left. You can complete the steps down below to fix this.

Steps for when you are able to continue using your Nintendo Switch 2 console for a few hours even though the battery charge indicator displays the battery is almost depleted.

Complete these steps

  1. Ensure the console has the latest system update.
  2. Set all three Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never.
    • How to set Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never
      1. From the HOME Menu select System Settings.
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select Sleep Mode.
      3. Set “Auto-Sleep (Playing on System Screen)”, “Auto-Sleep (Connected to TV)”, and “Auto-Sleep (Playing Media Content)” to Never
  3. Connect the AC adapter directly to the console.
  4. Allow the console to charge until the battery is 100% fully charged, or until the console has been charging for at least three hours.
  5. Leave the console alone and connected to the AC adapter for an additional hour.
  6. When an hour has passed, disconnect the AC adapter from the console and allow the console to display the HOME Menu for approximately three to four hours.
    • The remaining battery life must be depleted as much as possible.
  7. Once the battery charge is almost depleted, power off the console and leave it alone for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 6 several times.
    • The battery charge indicator will improve gradually by repeating this process several times.

  1. I don’t have an issue with the battery charging on the Switch 2, my problem is unless im near my router i have a low wifi connection. Like i can’t even access the Nintendo Eshop unless im near my router, i didn’t have this problem with the og Switch but with the Switch 2 i have low wifi connection oftentimes and not sure why.

    1. I think it merits a check because there might be something wrong with the antena in your unit – I have absolutely no connection issues on my end, if anything it actually has a better connection than Switch 1.

      1. I don’t think it’s my Nintendo Switch 2 specifically because i’ve read post on Reddit / Gamefaqs and watched YouTube videos where others are experiencing low wifi connection unless near the router.
It might be because of heavy traffic and alot of downloads, because it’s a new system.

    2. If you’re using a 5g connection, I’ve noticed that my 2.4g band doesn’t have any issues but my 5g is as you described, though I couldn’t even connect to Fortnite being next to my router when on my 5g band

  2. Isn’t there a bigger issue with the battery itself ?
I’ve read multiple reports that MKW can barely last 2 hrs in handheld.

      1. These instructions are ridiculous. Leave the home screen up for 3-4 hours after a fully charge, and do that multiple times?

        1. Draining a lithium battery to 0 is not recommended, and several times is even worse for the battery.

  3. Oh dear, what would a new console be without its technical issues at the start of its life? ^^ We also have this battery issue, we will carry out the maneuver hoping that an update will completely fix it.

  4. At first i thought this was a real problem people were having and nintendo actually had a quick fix but the more i read on, the more i realized this was a troll post lol. No way nintendos gonna ask anyone to go thru all those steps just to fix the charge meter lol.

    1. Not a troll. This same issue is reported on other sites. But yes, the amount of steps they expect somebody to do is ludicrous.

  5. The Switch had the exact same problem and exact same fix. Kind of embarrassing it’s still an issue with the Switch 2, but at least there’s a fix.
