NatetheHate clarifies why he didn’t know it was a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase today

We found out yesterday that there’s a Nintendo Direct today, but it’s not a typical Nintendo Direct but is instead a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase. This is the perfect chance for third party developers to showcase the games they’ve been working on for the system. The rumour from NateTheHate was it was a Nintendo Direct, so some fans were left disappointed to find out it was a partner showcase. When questioned by a fan NateTheHate said that third party partners don’t know the format of the show and are simply told they will be in a Nintendo Direct. So we can assume his source on this one was a third party developer.

“Partners don’t know the format of the show. They are told they are in a Nintendo Direct & they are in one.”

  1. A Nintendo Direct is only direct in name…it’s prepared and filmed weeks/months in advance before its broadcast…if its source is a developer then they weren’t aware of much….
Otherwise, I don’t see any tangible difference between Nintendo Direct and Nintendo Partner Direct…since both can have third-party announcements…

    1. I’d say the big difference (to the audience) is that there’s at least a guarantee of some exclusive new games announced in a Nintendo Direct. In a partner direct, there’s no guarantee in this as it could all be ports or previously announced games. Obviously, it’s rare to get 3rd party exclusives on Switch. It would also be rare to get a first announcement, aside from maybe an indie developer.

Yeah, so hopefully it’s not 95% “Here’s all the 3rd party games coming to Switch 2 that weren’t able to come to the Switch when they came out” and 5%… idk… just a follow-up on Duskbloods.

      1. Yes, that’s what I meant, the difference between the two is only for us: the players, the developer doesn’t really care whether it will be broadcast on one or the other. So I think Nate’s explanation is kind of an excuse…

        1. An excuse for what? He’s a leaker they will never have 100% of the information nor should anyone take what one says as gospel. Sigh video game nerds.

        2. You just can’t accept that Nate was right! Why? He said there would be a Direct. A developer told him there was a Direct in July but the developer clearly didn’t realise it was simply a Partner Showcase. Nate was right.

      2. It would also be rare to get a first announcement
Well not really. There are lots of 3rd Party games showing first on a Nintendo Direct in the past. Especially from Japanese devs.
