Atari has now purchased 5 IPs from Ubisoft

Atari is looking to get back in the forefront of gaming and have announced this evening that they have secured five IPs from beleaguered developer Ubisoft. The IPs are Cold Fear (2005), I Am Alive (2012), Child of Eden (2011), Grow Home (2015), and Grow Up (2016) This should give the company a boost as they look to nurture and grow these properties. Here’s what Deborah Papiernik, Vice President of New Business at Atari had to say:

“Millions of players have experienced these worlds over the years, and this will open the door for long time players to revisit those memories while inviting new audiences to discover them for the first time.”

  1. While Ubisoft certainly isn’t doing well, nor doing much with these IPs recently; let’s not forget that Atari is not the same company as back when they were ‘in the race’, by a long-shot.
Please do not expect too much (good) to come out of this.

    1. Atari is actually making some great games now based on classic IPs. And they license out to good studios. I would say do not count them out at all. They are making good investments these days

    2. Modern Atari has been great as of recent and better, more active than they were 10-15 years ago. Spiritually, its the best one could hope for with a modern Atari since they actually try and keep the old ips alive. They are more “old” Atari, than Activision or Ubisoft are in regards to their classic roots.

    3. Also, current Atari isn’t the same one to begin with. (Since its different company that bought the Atari brand and such)

  2. Atari seems to be trying to do a redepemtion arc lately with the new Bubsy 4D Game and now buying Ubisoft IPs that were abandoned that actually had neat concepts or were actually good but Ubisoft barely advertised them

  3. That’s crazy. They should buy Ziggurat Games, Interplay, Piko Interactive, Krome Studios, and Throwback Entertainment. Also Microsoft should buy IP from Ubisoft too Beyond Good And Evil, Prince Of Persia, Splinter Cell, and Rayman. Just realized Atari sold Driver to them years ago they should have bought that back too.

  4. Cold Fear is an underestimated Survival Horror. The worst Atari could do is reboot or remaster it. Maybe even make a new sequel if it turns out to be a success.
