Nintendo releases heartwarming animated short video

Nintendo has decided to release a special animated short called Close to You which features a cute little baby and its mother. It is not clear why the animation was uploaded as it clearly doesn’t appear to be your typical Nintendo video game teaser. It could well be something from Nintendo Pictures, which is Nintendo’s animation studio. Anyway, enjoy!

  1. wow, this had nothing to do with anything related to nintendo. fine by me, i hope nintendo makes more animations, nintendo related or not, i want artists to have the freedom to make unique and creative ideas, the same freedom nintendo artists have on their games. something truly incredible could come out of this studio❤️ .

    1. For once, I agree with you. It’s a short about a minor chasing their sentient gag. What does this have to do with video games?

    1. that’s what i was expecting to pop out the whole video but nope. just a heartwarming well crafted short. MAAAAN i really liked this, i hope to see more of this, maybe with more complex stories and more abstract ideas, i am really excited about this studio.

  2. The potential of Nintendo exploring its own universes through stronger narrative in movies and series, having their own creative control and direction. if you had put a couple pikmin there you already had a fantastic teaser. one can dream.

      1. Maybe it is a teaser for an invisible pikmin for the fifth game or a movie, future show or new shorts taking place in the Pikmin universe? Or like how pikmin are “close to us”, like an invisible pikmin moving things and the visible one under the bed. I also think this short is like a way to tell that Nintendo is always close to us, since the early days, present in memorable moments like this (when we are alone, our first steps or similar achievements).

        1. I was 8 years old when my mom gave me The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Christmas. My brothers and my cousin, 6, 5, and 2, were sitting next to me, 1998. We put the cartridge into the N64 while my mom watched proudly on this old TV in a summer house she’d rented for that Christmas. (Tropical weather) Felt we got inside the game.

Man, I can relive that moment again and again. We were amazed. Beautiful memories.

      2. So this is why my Nintendo games cost so much now? Because little side projects like this are what their budget is going into? This is high quality animation, and this didn’t take just a day or two. I really don’t see the purpose of this, other than to try and incite warm and fuzzy feels from the people who are already annoyed at them.

      1. Maybe it was an internal team just practicing animations with some new hardware or software and figured, well me made it mine as well release our practice project. Either way, call child services on that mom for leaving her newborn alone like that lol.

  3. I have theory a stretch theory maybe this animation is hinting the reboot of chibi robo series but it’s very low chance

  4. I saw on other site that the child could be Rosalina. Now I am thinking she resembles Peach too. The hair is similar and the hair strand looks like theirs too. So, maybe she is one of them and this is related to the Super Mario Galaxy movie. There are many theories.

  5. I hope this means Nintendo will start releasing not only products or games, but also Animated Shorts and maybe even Movies/Shows

  6. It’s Pikmin. Besides one being in the background of a shot, the main notes of the Pikmin theme song play repeatedly throughout the piano score.

Also the “flying” pacifier is at the exact height, and is animated as if a Pikmin were carrying it. The Pikmin carrying it was clearly modeled within their rendering engine, and then turned off for this teaser to make it invisible.

I have no clue if they’re teasing a movie or a game or why they did this, but this has Miyamoto written all over it and is 100% Pikmin related

  7. How incredible, it’s has to be Pikmin and Baby Roselina, the Pikmin spaceship did appear in Mario Galaxy 1, maybe the Pikmin and Roselina are long time friends.

  8. At the very least the designs come from Gurihiru Studios, that much is unmistakable. Perhaps this is demoing another partnership with Nintendo but for animated content.

It may just be a bit of marketing initiative for their Nintendo = babies products that they want to start putting out
