Pokemon TCG Pocket made $1.3 billion in first year, surpassing Pokemon GO’s first year

Pokemon TCG Pocket was always going to be surefire hit when it landed on mobile devices late last year bringing in both older Pokemon fans and newcomers to the beloved card series in a digital format. Now it has emerged that the iOS and Android app has grossed $1.3 billion in its first year of availability. To put that in context the incredibly popular Pokemon GO app made $1 billion in its first year, approximately $245 million short of Pokemon TCG Pocket. 1. It is worth noting that Pokemon Go isn’t a “gatcha” game, so there inherently are less things to pay money for. Especially in its first year there weren’t all these monthly passes or cosmetics being added weekly, it was mainly just items. Still though $1 billion is insane cash

  2. Not surprising. Most of the people playing it have grown up in a predominantly digital age who are happy to spend money on things that don’t physically exist. Even cards now. Not for me though, it’s a bizarre concept to me

  3. It should come as no surprise. Its majority user base consists of people who have spent their whole lives immersed in digital media and are willing to part with their cash for virtual goods. Level playing field now. I find the idea to be somewhat strange, so I will pass. rocket fortress
