Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo Admits 3DS Marketing Is Going To Be “Very Tricky”

Hideki Konno the producer behind Nintendo’s eagerly awaited 3DS has admitted that advertising and marketing the new 3D handheld games console is going to be “very tricky” for Nintendo.

“We are constantly discussing how to market the product. Our internal PR departments are saying that we should use cinema advertising, because cinemas are capable of showing 3D movies. But our key point with 3DS is that you don’t need glasses, which you obviously need to use in cinemas. So we think regular marketing and promotional activities will be very tricky for us. I think that a lot of awareness about 3DS will be spread by word of mouth.”

  1. I don’t think this will be that much of an issue, however, the thing that has a big possibility of ruining sales for them is how much it looks like the old ds. There have been so many re makes of the ds (light, i, XL) that when people see it they will be like “oh not another ds remake”. They took a big chance with the look.

  2. well, they’ve always been into viral marketing. Remember when they came out with the Wii, and they had the whole ‘you can play it with anyone” thing, and there were people playing in a movie theatre. I see a trend XD

      1. I dont think he’s english, first he can’t spell NINTENDO and () :S im sure he ment (). Sounds to me like he’s a hater. Maybe he should stick to sony rather than trying to fit in with nintendo fans

  3. They should make little stands or buses wich show demos of the games and let people play them, afterall, the biggest atraction of the 3DS is the effect you feel for playing it in 3D, so the best way to advertise it would be to show it to the most people possible, and hope them to spread the word.

  4. Lol…The sales for 3DS Porn would be off the charts. They should use that for marketing for adults 18+) “3DS Innovation. No Need fro Protection.”

  5. @Supaa stahh mario – no need to worry. It’s clearly spam, and Sickr will get around to cleaning it up.

    1. I think one of the guys was clearly getting a little too excited about the prospect of 3D porn. I’ve subsequently edited his post.

  6. I have absolutely no experience with cell phones and their functions beyond my Tracfone and its limited functions. I have never had any use for a cell phone beyond making a phone call every now and then, and Tetris when I’m bored, and I shudder at the thought of how much those things and their plans cost. BTW, my phone was like $40 and is about $20 every three months to keep it activated. Anyway, what exactly is 3G/4G capable of anyhow?

    1. Uhm….yeah….I had just read another article similar to the previous one (Nintendo In Talks To Get 3G Connections For Handhelds) when I posted this. Apparently I thought I was in that topic when I was writing, lol. Sorry about that!

  7. Well thanks to E3, advertisement by word is working great…

Person#1: Did you heard about the 3DS?! It has—

Person#2: What?! Really?! Wow! Thanks for telling me!

    *as time pass by*

Person#2: Did you hear about the 3DS?!

Person#3: WHOA! I’M SO GONNA GET IT

and the chain goes on forever…
