Takashi Iizuka, the producer behind the forthcoming Sonic Colors has informed online gaming publication IGN that Sega’s recent efforts have been created to appeal to Mario and Nintendo fans.
“From a general game design perspective, in recent years we’ve been able to introduce Sonic to new fans – a lot of the Nintendo/Mario fans – and because of that, we’ve made changes to the design.”
“We’ve designed things in Sonic Colours that we think will really appeal to people who are unfamiliar with the Sonic brand and the Sonic gameplay. So from that perspective we hope that fans of Mario will really be able to enjoy playing as Sonic in Sonic Colours.”

So Sega are aiming Sonic Colours at under 12 Nintendo fans?
Are they actually planning on selling this game or what?
Im quite unfamiliar to Sonic. I don’t even feel ok seing Sonic in Brawl. I can’t stop feeling that rivalry betwen this two characters….
Why would you change sonic to be more like mario??
I guess they think it is a good marketing tactic.. too bad they already failed harder than the PSP Go when it comes to creativity and success.

Just saw pictures of “Sandwich Town” or whatever. It looks like a direct rip of the Sweets galaxies/courses from Super Mario Galaxy/Mario Kart. Not to mention the whole drilling the ground part like in Super Mario Galaxy 2. I guess when they said new Mario fans should enjoy it, they were really saying “We’re trying to rip-off SMG <:)".
Nothing will make Sonic appeal to me. Give it up, Sega.

Personally I think this will be a mistake. Redesigning Sonic the Hedgehog would be like redesigning Super Mario. They’re iconic game characters, why change one to suit the fans of another character AND rival games company? Pointless.
15-20 years ago this would have caused one of the biggest outrages in the video game world.
And, judging from these comments, it still might.
