Nintendo 3DS: Not All Nintendo 3DS Games Will Be In 3D

Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that not all Nintendo 3DS games will necessarily feature 3D visuals during the latest edition of the popular Iwata Asks.

“New game cards, however, will be specific to Nintendo 3DS, but whether they will be in 3D or not is basically up to the maker, just like how much to use the touchscreen was up to developers for Nintendo DS.”

“Suddenly requesting all the game developers to only make 3D games on game cards exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS from now on would really raise the hurdle for them.

“We thought it would be better for developers, as well as players, if they could do as they please depending on the software, having images jump out just a little or making games based significantly on 3D.”

  1. I accept that, just like Super Mario Bros Wii doesn’t use touchscreen (much) and SSBB doesn’t use motion controls, still awesome games, as long as they have the other features (improved graphics, better online, trophy type things for some, etc)

  2. I’ve been thinking about this ever since the reveal at E3, and I was afraid developers were being pushed to make 3D games. Now the full potential of the 3DS can be used, without having to cut the FPS to 30 and whatnot.

  3. I like how Nintendo is open with what devs can do, but I hope this doesn’t rake in trashy 3rd party games.

  4. Ahh I see, I assumed all 3DS games will come in 3D. Guess I got proven wrong and can be made in 2D thanks to “My Nintendo News”.

  5. I don’t see much of a point to that if there’s already an option of your 3DS to turn off the 3D. Only possible reason is maybe to create games with better graphics? But even then, look at the new Metal Gear game that’s going to be coming out soon, it has great graphics (not that I’m a graphics fanboy) and it’s also in 3D. So I think Nintendo is capable of doing both departments.
