Retro City Rampage Coming To Nintendo 3DS, Not A “Quick And Dirty Port”

Nintendo has confirmed via a press release issued today that Retro City Rampage will be coming to Nintendo 3DS. The game will be playable for the first time at this year’s PAX Prime event along with a number of other titles. Here’s what the developer had to say about development of the game on their official blog.

“The 3DS version is the first that’s required significant development work. While all previous versions were nearly pixel-for-pixel identical, the dual screens, lower resolution and less beefy processor meant some things had to go back to the drawing board. Quality’s important to me and for it to play well, it wasn’t going to be a quick-n-dirty port. It packs all of the same content as the other versions, including the new Retro+ Enhanced Graphics mode, but every mission is being tweaked and adjusted to run best with the zoomed in camera. I’m also still working on the best ways to utilize the bottom screen for both convenience and gameplay. I’m not a fan of flow-breaking minigames, but selecting weapons, scrolling the minimap, or even using the screen for dual-stick style shooting are on my list to explore.”

Thanks, Msrio

    1. It was his fault too to have it come out later than the others but I think it has good chances on the 3ds if the price is right.

      1. The 3DS version is coming out way later than the Wii version. So… what I get from your comment is that I should expect it to fail on this platform too?

        1. 3ds is having extras than even the vita version don’t have so people who already played may want to double dip on wii it was basically the same.

  2. So much yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have it on PC already, but I always wanted to have it on the go. Will be purchasing the second it’s available.

I guess the fact that he’s still exploring ways to use the touchscreen means release isn’t going to be any time soon. :(

  3. Ok ive just finished playing the 101 demo and i gotta say it was extremely fun, i dont know why people say it has a steep learning curve of that the control is bad, i got use to the game in less than 5 minutes and after that i was pulling out swords, guns and punches using the right stick, definitely a buy for me, anyone says the controls are bad are just bad at games.lol

  4. Western developers hitting back with honour and grace. This is a smart third party dude. Buying this game day UNO because of his forward hardwork and retroussé.

    1. Actually they have. First several months it didn’t sell well, no good line up of games. Then they start to release the big hitters and sell an absolute crap load.

    1. I have it on my Wii U…………. via Wiiware.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the Gamepad could be the set as the audio/video output for Wii Mode? Oh well.

  5. Hey guys, i have a quick question. If i was to buy a wii u basic in america right now, whats the cheapest i could find it at? Please guy im really desperate to play one lol. Thx!

      1. I hate to keep posting, but wheres the link for the deal you said at target? the only wii u I see is only $350…

    1. “it be great if this sells great on the 3ds then the vita”

Then the Vita? The Vita version is already out and is the best selling version out of all platforms.

Or did you mean, “It would be great if this sells more on the 3DS than the Vita”?

      ;/

  6. I’ll buy it for 3DS. First, I held off on getting it on PC to build up a game library for the Vita on the off chance I was going to get one, which I haven’t but now I want to build up my 3DS library more. So I guess I’ll be getting it on 3DS.

  7. How does this game play?…

I haven’t really heard about this other than the name at some point in the past…

  8. It’s like a top-down view GTA. It supplies more fun via driving around killing/shooting everything that you might expect. The radio when driving is full of amazing 8-bit musics. The story is full of humor and references to 8-bit games and other things are littered EVERYWHERE.
The gameplay is pretty solid and can be fun for pretty much anyone who can play a 2D sprite based game. If you owned an NES ever though, it can nostalgia-bomb you hard.
    Everyone should buy/play it imo.
