Zelda developer Eiji Aonuma has been discussing his latest project, The Wind Waker HD on Wii U, rather extensively in a couple of new interviews. In a new interview with USGamer, Aonuma admits that he played through the “entire game from beginning to end” in order to make adjustments to anything he and his team thought was holding up the experience of the game.
Additionally, while discussing the cel-shaded art style of the original Wind Waker in an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Aonuma pronounced Wind Waker “one of the more successful” games using that graphical style at the time, and said the game is “unlike any other experience out there”. Gamers will be able to enjoy those graphics in high definition when The Wind Waker HD is released later this month as part of a new Wii U Deluxe bundle on September 20th. A portion of Aonuma’s comments from the MTV interview appear below.
“After ‘Wind Waker’ there were a lot of cel shaded style games that were released, and I apologize, this will sound like I’m bragging a little bit, but I feel like ‘Wind Waker’ was one of the more successful ones….You can ride this boat and sail across this really expansive sea, and it’s very free world, and this is unlike any other experience out there, and the presentation is great.”

The thing with Wilford is that all of your old comments changed both name and picture to the wilford. I think the Windwaker HD looks great, but honestly, it’s cell shading. I’m of the opinion it was the easiest game to make HD. The original is still beautiful today, cell shading just ages well due to the style.
I would have liked Nintendo to show us they are truly ready for HD by making a more realistic Zelda such as Twilight, OoT or MMask into HD. Personally, I think it would have been a fuck ton harder to make those in HD, and would have shown the world they could do it.
Making Windwaker HD is like putting make-up on a 18 year old. They already look good. Sex-up a game that NEEDS it, not one that still looks great. (Windwaker.)
Cell-Shaded games are just as hard to make as Normal, maybe more because they have to have a look that works at all angles and look good for years to come.
Also, you heard they did make TP in HD and they weren’t impressed. With how good it looks. Why can’t this art style be for the Wii U, ZELDA HAS NEVER BEEN REALISTIC D: TP was the only one, even with the 3ds remake of OoT you saw that the game was mean’t to look like the cartoon characters. Realistic Zelda is what is limiting the franchise
because with realism comes the expectation of maturity and Zelda shouldn’t be mature at all. I prefer cartoons over Real life looks because they have more imagination. Why choose a realistic setting that limits what you can do when you can have something that will remain special for years to come

I traded in my Gamecube version because WiiU can’t play gamecube games. I kinda regretted it, and am glad I get to buy it back in full HD.

There were plenty of successful cell-shaded games. The only thing is that none of them saw the level of success that Wind Waker did. I mean, the Sly Cooper series for PS2 is all cell-shaded. Jet Set Radio, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, etc… All of these saw pretty high levels of success, critically, if not marketability.

then after half way threw the fight with majora gannon, his masks falls off but he gets to use the triforce for full power. nothing can hurt him and his attacks are strong. so you have to resort to putting on the majoras mask, you turn into evil but can control it to kill gannon.

I would really like a origin zelda about majora and possible(if termina is different universe) bring that worlds ganon make him a pirate since his race are pirates in that world. I’m sick of hearing the minority GameCube fan boys saying the original was better etc when it so ducking wasn’t! At the time ye but compare it too the HD version and it is now perfect and how it should be. The GameCube version was amazing, the HD version just improves the visuals to make it even more amazing.
