Kotaku Now Says Watch Dogs Is Still Coming To Wii U, Blamed On A Glitch In The System

Online gaming publication Kotaku has apologised for the previous article which suggested that GameStop US were pulling pre-orders for Watch Dogs on the Wii U. The publication says that that their GameStop Italy and GameStop US sources now say that there was some kind of glitch in the system and that Watch Dogs is once again available for pre-order on Wii U.

Good news, everyone! GameStop Italy and our U.S.-based source have both said that this was all a glitch in the system and that Watch Dogs is—or will soon be—available for pre-order for Wii U again in Italy and the U.S. Apologies for making everyone nervous about this and for not getting that all sorted prior to publishing the first time.

    1. Nope, their original report was a clickbait.
They run a speculative articles, then do the fact check later. As long as it gets people to click, they don’t care how reliable there article is. The sad part is it’s not just them, this kind of crap is rampant in the journalism.

      1. I know, but at least the printed a retraction. Some people don’t even do that much they are so prideful and arrogant.

  1. rather than messing us all about why dont you wait until you have all the facts rather than speculating on rumour :/

      1. THIS JUST IN!!!!!UBISOFT SAID NO TO NINTENDO’S DINNER OFFER AND PLAN ON EATING KORREN FOOD!!! WII U DOOMED!!!!!

    1. rumors like these have a habit of being uncontrollable.. someone notices it’s been cancelled.. and then another one.. and next thing you know it’s all over the internet

Trust me, Ubisoft isnt givin up on WiiU so easily. They are probably one of the few class act 3rd parties, they support the system as long as they can come with stuff on it, but people seriously need to buy their games as well, because if their time and investment dont come back to them then they wont either, but they always try until the last point.

  2. So, where are the trolls saying DOOOOOOOOOOOOM to wii u watch dogs. Again this whole thing was blown out of proportion. The trolls have no beef. I AM BEEFY AGAIN. I HAVE FURY

  3. I knew it all along, i just stayed silent so i could get some entertainment from FanboyWars Episode V:Kotaku strikes back.

  4. People should try a little harder not to freak out about speculation. If someone reported that bigfoot was traveling from house to house, destroying WiiUs, would you all have a spaz? I intend to continue trusting Ubisoft. They have been more supportive of WiiU than any other 3rd party and their games are usually quite good. I’ve put so much time into Rayman and Splinter Cell on my WiiU that Mario is getting jealous.

Glad you enjoyed them. Mario and Rayman are great friends, we arent competing against Mario, im sure he knows it aswell theres no need to jealousy. But if Rayman really has made Mario feel that way then we need to discuss about how to screw Rayman so it doesnt do well? Any ideas here?

  5. Pro-tip to save yourself some pain:

    1. Always assume Kotaku is lying or gilding the lily–it’s almost always the latter, at the very least.
    2. If they are sourcing freaking retail websites you have only *yourself* to blame if you believe it.

Kotaku was tryin to screw Ubisoft and Nintendo over, they are jealous of Ubisoft because Ubisoft is slowly rising to be the biggest 3rd party dev and Ubisoft isnt american based piece of shit company like Ea. They also are jealous of Nintendo having awesome system and best ips. I have spoken.

    1. I agree 100%! And this is NOT the first time they’ve done it; I’ve seen several articles on Kotaku in the past years, and you can clearly see their bad intentions to destroy relationships between videogame companies. I’m really confident that Kotaku has an evil agenda toward us (real gamers). That’s why I NEVER visit their site, I rather go to Nintendo.com (one of the best sites ever).

  7. All the dumb ass fanboys that were saying the game is shit, ubisoft should die and they should all lose there jobs now look stupid. More so, since ubisoft were the only ones supporting wii u. They have been doing you guys a favor my losing money in hopes to help wii u sells increase. But all you fanboys do is complain this is why wii u has no third party support.

    1. That sword cuts both ways though. Same goes for the people screaming doom and gloom for the Wii U based solely on the fact of Watch Dogs POSSIBLY not coming to the Wii U, let alone being confirmed not to be. Those people look even worse. Especially since the story broke Watch Dogs has remained visible on the Italy site as a pre-order game.

People tend to go to one extreme or the other. Drama kings and queens.

  8. in hindsight it’s kind of funny how everyone saw ubisofts refusal to comment on a rumor as a confirmation

however it’s fairly common practice not to comment on rumors

  9. why does everyone prais the ps4 for its hardware they praise the xbox one for what ever it offers and good online but dont praises the wiiU for being another step into a direction where games are just that and not photo realistic gimmicks of life. and yes im talking about graphics.

    1. Exactly, they just said that they never wanted to comment. When in their statement did it even mention about pulling it? Besides it would be too late now to pull it as the game is probably finished.

    2. What made people fear for the worst was exactly that! “They didn’t deny it.” Usually when something is not true you deny it… Ubisoft would be smart to make sure to do so next time.

    3. and the refusal to comment a suggestive question is the confirmation of the opposite or what?

sure they could have avoided a lot of confusion if they’d commented right away however it’s not uncommon not to comment on rumors and whoever they did reach at ubisoft may not have been at liberty to say anything

      1. Yeah, but this was not “just” a rumor. People had been confirming that pre-orders were being dropped all over the world. What did Ubisoft think other people would believe? Especially after the Rayman Legends disaster. They should have stepped up to the plate to fix everything right away, but they failed…. They failed to do a simple job.

At least this little failure is not as bad as ACTUALLY cancelling the game..

        1. the fact was that preorders had been cancelled and this is not something ubisoft can confirm or deny, that’s up to gamestop

the rumor was that the game for the wii u had been cancelled and this ubisoft wouldn’t or couldn’t comment on

          corporate mills sometimes grind slowly
i’m sure we’d have eventually gotten a statement but it would probably have taken a couple days

it’s not as simple as someone just approaching the press and saying whatever comes to mind without any kind of approval especially since these decisions are usually made without the vast majority of the corporation even being in the know

  10. I hope all the people talking shit about Ubisoft in the comment section of previous articles feel stupid now. You guys shouldn’t jump to conclusions and speak without knowing anything. Ubisoft are one of the few true supporters of the Wii U. Let’s all be happy about that and buy this and their other games on the Wii U.

    1. I don’t feel stupid. It is exactly how we would have acted if they did cancel Watch Dogs…. and we had every right to act that way if it were true. I’m just glad Ubisoft pulled through in the end. Faith is now restored in them… for the time being…

      1. i should add that i didn’t actually wish some horrible fate on them.. just that i’d ignore their games in the future

        1. Well… hoping a company would burn down in flames isn’t THAAAAT horrible. I would still want everyone to make it out safely and everything….

    1. on the other hand a lot of preorders were cancelled.. like.. a lot

it may cause people to just abandon the thought of getting it for the wii u

    1. Nintenbabies? What’s with all the ridiculous name calling? It’s not even insulting, which I assume is the point of your comment, it’s just silly. Anyways, a baby wouldn’t have the motor skills or reading comprehension that’s necessary to play a video game.

      1. nintenbabies is what I call the majority of nintendo fans based on how they act. a very appropriate name for many clowns on this site.

  11. Hallelujah!!! Looks like I respect Ubisoft once again!!! Also, I read that when Nintendo fans heard that Watch Dogs might be cancelled on Wii U that the preorders rose significantly… how interesting ;)

        1. “Ubisoft can burn down in flames for all I care. If Watch Dogs doesn’t come to Wii U I wish them ill will and don’t I care about whoever loses their jobs in the process of Ubisoft’s downfall.”

  12. what does wonder me though… if it was just a glitch in their system then why on earth did gamestop confirm, multiple times, that watch dogs for the wii u was actually cancelled? i mean don’t they brief their staff on these things? it’s pretty major really and i as a member of support would want to know about incoming angry calls from customers because of cancelled preorders

    1. ubisoft is a huge corporation

it’s impossible for everyone to know what’s currently being decided in the upper levels.. meaning a PR guy first has to check back with the upper levels and *then* he can make an official statement, not before

  13. They just did this to make the Wii U look bad again and hurt Nintendo, I wonder how much Microsoft and Sony payed them for this!

Those two companies are like the two sons of Nintendo, they are just waiting for it to die so they can have all the games of Nintendo in their consoles! That’s why the media is full of Nintendo is doomed articles!

    1. I totally agree but not so much about Ms and Sony’s involvement but it just shows there are people out there who really want to the Big N to go down….
