Latest Super Smash Bros Wii U Screenshot Shows Palutena Statue In Unseen Stage

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has teased us with another Wii U screenshot for the upcoming brawler – this time showing a statue of Kid Icarus’ Goddess of Light. The screenshot shows a previously unseen stage with Palutena “watching over” those on the battlefield. Perhaps Sakurai is aware of those leaked 3DS images of Palutena, supposedly representing her as a playable character, or an assist trophy.

The teased image may point to another Kid Icarus stage on the Wii U, which looks dramatically different to those Uprising screenshots from the 3DS version. Here’s what Sakurai posted on Miiverse:

“You can find this statue of the Goddess of Light in one of the stages. She’s watching over the arena.”

  1. Why does everyone keep saying sakurai is trolling with this image? Its not like he put this picture up on miiverse the day after the palutena leak.

      1. YOU’RE RIGHT RETRO!!! I didn’t connect the pieces together at all. Palutena is not a stage hazard, because she was on Battlefield DUH!

So all that’s left is Assist Trophy or Character… hmmmmm.

  2. Kid Icarus started as an NES game, which is home console. It’s most likely that this is a stage based on a level on the original NES Kid Icarus.

      1. her or hades. I think tons of kid icarus fans love hades, he was the bosses that just love being evil and doing it for fun. Him or medusa would be great.

    1. You’re most definitely correct. Uprising was on a handheld so sadly we won’t be getting a stage from that game on Wii U ( I wish we could get Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon and Uprising stages on the Wii U version :( ) So it has to be from the NES version just in “HD.”

      1. (Uprising was on a handheld so sadly we won’t be getting a stage from that game on Wii U)

The picture says wiiu on it…

      2. It’s based on the final level from Kid Icarus called Palace in the Sky since it was a console game. It does however have the statue and stadium from Uprising’s Palutena Temple since it’s the closest thing to a modern interpretation of that area. Also, the Palutena Temple is an expansion of the original Sky Palance since both places served as the home of Palutena and the Centurions in both games.

            1. Yeah so you can prove to those who think an Uprising stage will be on the Wii U version of SSB4 WRONG! lol!

  3. I personally think Palutena is like a stage hazard (statue comes to life) or assist trophey, BUT. I have this feeling in the back pf my mind that what if Palutena is a playable character and he will release a newcommer trailer soon at the next direct.

Now, because Sakurai has publically commented on adding more characters, I can’t help but think that the newcommer trailer will include TWO Kid Icarus characters BOTH being female.

Palutena AND Medusa revealed as newcommers in the same trailer would be kind of sneaky and would generate a ton of hype. I think it might happen, oh, not to mention hving them fight each other while Mario, Pit and Link get stuck in the cross fire would make for an excellent (and funny) mini trailer. :D

    1. Who says she even needs to be replaced? Palutena isn’t “pretending” to be that statue or anything. (Unless I’m mistaken. I have not played the original Kid Icarus games so maybe Palutena is a statue?)

What is stopping Sakurai from having Palutena play on a field where a statue of herself is in the background? :P

      1. Well actually in Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, she gets turned to stone. But she’s not a big statue, just a regular sized one. Just wanted to let you know. Hug?

  4. My theory is that the wings I the statue dissapeare if and when Palutena is in the arena because she is no longer “watching over” but actually fighting.

  5. I’m guessing no one else saw this right? Unless it was yesterday’s image the pic above replaced one of Link and Marth at the Skyloft stage. There was two of the beetle items, the one Link uses to grab and drop items with in Skyward Sword, both one by Link’s hand and one infront of Marth. It seemed like it was a replacement for maybe his bombs since there was two or could be a new side B move like how his boomerang got updated to the wind one from Twilight Princess going from Melee to Brawl. Unless the beetle item is going to be an item that can be used by one like the fire flower and pokeball. Did anyone happen to catch that image or confirm it was just an old one?

  6. Thank you! I was so confused but I’m glad to see a new item and a new stage, much better than the image of Rosalina showing off the Wii Remote pointer cursor again when she has pretty much the same one on her page of images in almost the same exact pose. :)
