Jonathan Morin, Watch Dogs creative director, has explained on Twitter that the Wii U version of the game will be closer to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of the game, rather than the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. Watch Dogs is due out on all-formats excluding the Wii U on May 27th. The Wii U version is said to be coming at a later date as the team concentrate on other formats.

It’s not official, but one can easily depict that the Wii U is definitely inferior in terms of hardware. I’m sorry but its apparent, any common sense would tell you that it is. A console that when it came out was worth 349.99, in comparison to the ps4 and xbox one when they came out 399.99-475.99(costco price)/499.99(regular retail price), will give you the earliest clue that it’s inferior. Nintendo has ALWAYS sold hardware at a profit, the tablet controller, like the camera for the xbox one is something that bumped the price up significantly. Meaning the actual Wii U console in terms of hardware inside of it is worth around the 220-260 price, which would make sense since Nintendo probably spends around that much every generation as their strategy to earn more by spending less. Compared to the other recent consoles, the Wii U’s hardware is better in some aspects than the ps3 and xbox 360 but is still inferior (hardware-wise) to the ps4 and xbox one.
In the end though, the only thing that you need to remember is that the jump in graphical capabilities this time around are definitely lower than the last generation to say the least (excluding Nintendo), so any game that comes out on Wii U will most likely still look impressive enough to say “wow that looks nice”.
One thing we can hope for is that Nintendo releases some software, like Zelda or Metroid, that uses more of their architecture in efficient ways so that WHEN the console starts to sell better and hopefully reaches the ps4 and xbox one’s sales numbers, third party developers will support it more and will know what can really be done with this console.
Don’t get me wrong, 3D world and Tropical Freeze look beautiful and are amazing games, but it does not in any way represent what the Wii U’s limits are.

You can’t use remakes as an argument pro Nintendo and contra the competition, because Nintendo has been doing lots and lots of remakes lately. Besides, there are barely any remakes on PS4/Xbox One, besides Tomb Raider.
But okay, if you’re not interested in games like Infamous, Uncharted, The Order, Deep Down, FF XV, KH3, Rime, Destiny, Dragon Age, Driveclub, Metal Gear Solid, Daylight, Earth Defense Force, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Resogun, Forza, Gears of War, Halo, Dead Rising, Quantum Break and many others*, I guess you don’t have to care about the PS4 nor the Xbox One, and definitely stay at the WiiU. If you’re arguing about remakes the ONLY remakes on Wii U are MH3U and WWHD. The rest are sequels NOT remakes. They are not remakes and neither are SMBU, DKCTF, SM3DW, SSB4, MK8 etc. they are all new versions in a series. Seriously? Do you know anything about the actual internal components and architecture of the wii u? It is leagues ahead of ps3 and 360, so there’s literally no way the wii could have been built with wii u technology. That technology just didn’t exist back then. And the main difference that makes the ps4 and xbox one perform at a moderately higher level is their heavier use of ram. But the end result for most games on those consoles is really only marginally better than wii u, and yet they cost much more and use 2-3 times the amount of power wii u uses. And most developers who have done ACTUAL hands-on development for wii u have said as much. This guys is a creative director, meaning he comes up with neat ideas and tells a bunch of programmers what to do. I don’t know his technical background, but I’m willing to be he doesn’t know what it’s actually like to code for wii u.

One of the things I really appreciate from Nintendo, is that their consoles doesn’t have power, but they bring us marvelous adventures and awesome competitive games with that.
But third-parties doesn’t think alike.
So, their games often lacks some quality.

I was already kind of expecting this. The Wii U version should still be slightly better than the PS360 version but it won’t be on the same level as PS4 and Xbox One. But if you want this game for graphics, then you should pick up the PC version. You want it for exclusive features, then wait for the Wii U version with whatever they are going to be doing with the Gamepad.

I mean I’m all for Nintendo but third party games like this are not the reason to have a Wii U. It seems no matter who the developer, third party always seems to lose out in one way or another on Wii U. Just like the Wii, I call Wii U a “peripheral” system. You can’t really get a full gaming experience with just a Wii U just like you couldn’t with just a Wii (people will deny this to death but…..). You need a Wii U + Xbox One or PS4 or PC. Play all the great first party stuff on Wii U and play everything else on a main console. This is just IMO of course, I’m sure people will start yelling at me but I really have nothing against the Wii U, I believe it just has a certain spot in gaming and that spot isn’t as a primary console.

First of all, as much as Wii U games may look like PS3 games, they still look amazing. If someone bashes the Wii U for it’s graphics, then they are obviously fanboys. Yeah, anyone that says that graphics are the most important part of a game needs to play a PS1 game and think about the fact that those graphics were considered good back then. Great gameplay will never get old, all the classics like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Doom, Sonic the Hedgehog and Final Fantasy are still really good games, even though they look really dated by todays standards. But when a game only relies on graphics, the day will inevitably come when that game also looks old compared to future games, and when that day comes, the game will have nothing to show other than graphics that no longer looks good.
to me a new generation in a console involves primarily advanced interfaces, advanced technology, advanced connectivity and versatility.. raw hardware performance is riding on the backseat in a console because if it was all about that really.. anyone could buy a PC and be vastly better of with it

Ps4 and Xbox One run on an x86 while a Wii U runs on PowerPC.
x86 architechture runs on what is called CISC. Complex Instruction Set Computing. This allows for developers to have a lot of resources available at the beginning, but very little room to grow. Power-based architecture runs on what is called RISC. Reduced Instruction Set Computing. The memory footprint is much smaller and much faster than that of a CISC-based x86 CPU which are the type used in the XB1 and PS4.
Loosely translated, it takes massive amounts of RAM and computational power do to the same thing that a Power-based CPU does with far less memory and computational power.
The Wii U does not need 4GB of RAM to do the same level of performance as the PS4 and XB1 as was explained in detail in a link I will provide if you want. The reason Microsoft and Sony chose x86 over PowerPC this time around was to lessen the loss on hardware, and to entice more 3rd parties to develop for their console because of the relative ease of working with x86 which for all intents and purposes is like developing for a PC. However what you gain with ease of development, you lose out on longevity.
The Wii U has 3 CPUs. A Tri-Core PowerPC750, a Dual Core ARM Processor, and a sound processor. The bandwidth of the eDRAM in the Wii U can be clocked as high as 1TB per second which smokes the XB1 eDRAM, eSRAM, and the PS4 GDDR5 RAM. It was a machine built on elegance, speed, and efficiency.
Developers are already hitting walls with XB1 and PS4 dev kits. Resogun on the PS4 uses 50% of the PS4 CPU. Nano Assault NEO (made by Shin’en Multimedia who actually know what they are doing with the Wii U hardware) looks just as good if not better than that and only runs on one core.
Whether the 50% means 50% of the entire PS4 CPU which is 8 cores or 50% of the allotted CPU for gaming use which would be 2 out of 4 cores, that still is a very bad sign that a downloadable launch-title uses that much CPU power. We already know that Killzone: Shadow Fall uses 3GB of RAM which is more than 80% of the allotted RAM on the PS4 (4-5GB.) Again, a launch title. These systems are going to have to last for at least 10 years for Microsoft and Sony.
The bottom line is that PowerPC architecture is superior to that of x86, but it’s not for lightweights. If you are lazy or lacking in development experience then you are going to struggle. Those who are very talented and well-versed in game developmental language of all kinds will have an easier time unlocking the power of the Wii U.
The longer developers play around with it the more they discover how powerful it really is. If you have followed the comments from Slighty Mad Studios, guys who are working on Project CARS, you can tell that they keep discovering new things about the Wii U and are constantly surprised on how far they can push things without the console even breaking a sweat.
Not to mention that the power consumption on the Wii U is superior to that of the PS4 and XB1. Only uses 33 watts of power. Not even 50% of what it is capable of handling.
If the Wii U had an 8-core PowerPC CPU and 8GB of RAM along with the 32MB of eDRAM it has it would absolutely rip the PS4 and XB1 to shreds.

Your example of Project Cars is a good one. The Wii U most likely rivals the other two. And that will be with them probably not able to truly devote the amount of time on the Wii U due to budget and time constraints. So while I think you will see how close they are…I am afraid only Nintendo will be able to showcase the technology. It might not come until 2015 with Zelda U, but it will come. And then people will eat crow. Of course, they won’t, because these people don’t know humility and are incapable of independent thought. When this happens, they will just point out how the Wii U is way behind the PS4 in sales and pretend they never claimed it wasn’t capable of ‘next gen’ graphics like them.

this however becomes less and less relevant on more powerful hardware where more ressources are available

CISC does have another great advantage: nearly everyone in the gaming industry knows how to write code on CISC x86 hardware since they’re so common and it doesn’t really change across CPU generations.. however every new RISC CPU in a console requires adapting.. it’s very similar to high level and low level programming languages in the amount of time that has to be invested to get accustomed to its functions
there IS a reason why CISC is the prominent architecture nowadays

This just shows that ubisoft probably didn’t even plan a wii u version, let alone develop it. This will probably just be a 360 port like AC IV. The problem with nearly EVERYBODY is that, they shouldn’t be comparing the Wii U with Sony and Microsoft’s consoles. Most loyal and devoted Nintendo fans already has a Wii U and are loving it (and some are still saving for it). Most people buys a console for the exclusives (I know I do). And most Nintendo fans don’t give a rat’s ass about whether the graphics are better and more powerful on the Xbox One and PS4. If the games suck, what’s the point of all that power? So we can view suckiness in HD?
The most important thing (besides the games) for each console is to make sure it’s more powerful than the last. Is the Wii U more powerful than the Wii? Yes! So Nintendo did a good job. People are paying FAR too much attention to technical specs these days. Games all look SO good nowadays that I know I’ll always be satisfied as far as graphics goes (heck, I was satisfied with the Wii’s graphics). And all companies who ditched the Wii U just because it has less power than the PS4 and Xbox One doesn’t belong in the game business.

The architecture of the Wii U allows it to have graphics similar to those of the ps4/xb1 consoles, but the game will ultimately not even look as good as the 360 version because it is a port of the 360 version.
