Nintendo Invites Fans To Super Smash Bros. E3 Tournament

Nintendo has invited Super Smash Bros. fans to the first-ever public tournament for the upcoming brawler at this year’s E3. Taking place on the same day – June 10 – as Nintendo’s Digital Event in the Nokia Theatre in LA, 16 previously selected Smash Bros. players will battle it out on the Wii U game to become the ultimate champion on stage.

For those who aren’t as lucky to attend this year’s event, Nintendo will live-stream the tournament directly to Twitch’s E3 channel and Nintendo’s Twitch channel, so you won’t have to miss out on any of the Smash-style action.

Nintendo will also present a special treat for the biggest Smash Bros fans who dress up as their favourite in-game characters. A tournament priority seat will be rewarded to those in the best costumes, plus you may even appear on the Twitch live-stream channels. Details for the event on Tuesday, June 10, are shown in the press release below:

9.30am: 3,000 wristbands will be distributed to fans on a first-come, first-served basis at NOKIA Plaza, L.A. LIVE, 777 Chick Hearn Court in Los Angeles. Fans should not queue prior to Tuesday morning, but once a wristband is obtained you can leave the plaza area and return later in the day. The order that wristbands are obtained in the morning does not affect the order later in the day for the event.

2.30pm: Doors Open

4pm: Super Smash Bros. Invitational Begins

    1. Why would you care?
One of the faggiest things you can do is worry about what another man does with his dick.

  1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

I bet the “treat” will be a Download Code for the Wii U version when it releases…

  2. See this coincides exactly with my theory on why Nintendo opted out a formal press conference again this year at E3. Stuff like this costs money peeps. Nintendo is trying to reach out to the gamers and not the media.

    1. I normally don’t either, but to tell the truth, it’s fun without trying your hardest. Like playing with items make it feel less like a fighting game.

  3. I believe that it was at a similar event during Brawl’s development that we first heard word of how slow the game was.

Interviewer: So, what did you guys think?

    Smash Player: It’s slower….

Let’s hope they come out a little happier with Smash 4.

  4. Why do I have a feeling that 2/3 of Nintendo’s E3 plans will be nothing but Smash Bros. and Mario Kart? Great games, but I want to see and hear some brand new announcements.

The Wii U version of Smash Bros. is probably going to make past Smash Bros. games look HORRIBLE. At least, graphically. Those HD graphics have a way of making everything else look like trash. After just playing through the graphically amazing Assassin’s Creed IV, I couldn’t even stand looking at regular Wii games anymore. I tried playing Xenoblade Chronicles afterwards (because of so many people praising it), and I hated everything about it. EVERYTHING. The story, the controls, the characters, the camera etc. Why was it praised? Even the graphics was blurry. I thought this game was supposed to be beautiful? (o _ O)

I know I’m off the subject of Smash Bros. But the minute I was done playing just a few minutes of Xenoblade, I wanted to tell off everyone on the internet for praising this game. Sure, I didn’t give the game much of a chance, but I hated all of the opening story and enemy characters (and battle system) so much that I don’t care if I ever return to it.

Well if you don’t like anime, I doubt you’ll enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles even if you did give it a chance. And Xenoblade did look great. Maybe you’ve just been spoiled by the HD quality of the Wii U games. But that’s up to you whether you like it or not. As for the subject, I doubt Mario Kart 8 will be a big focus at E3 since it releases at least a week & a half before E3. I’ll just keep my expectations reasonable & not get hyped up, unlike the people that let the tech demo of Zelda showing off the Wii U’s graphical power get them hyped up into thinking the next Zelda will use those graphics.
