This week’s UK charts are now in courtesy of GFK Chart Track. Though we knew Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was a big contender for Nintendo’s red-capped mascot, Mario Kart 8 has certainly earned its place, beating last-gen versions of Watch Dogs to the podium. But the open-world hacker game was a record-breaking success for Ubisoft, so it stands to reason it would nab the prized spot. The PlayStation 4 version took the crown over Xbox One, while Mario Kart 8 came in third for Nintendo’s home console.
While Nintendo’s flagship series has spurred the Wii U into the top 5 this week, it remains the only Nintendo game in the individual top 40, with no Pokemon X or Y at the tail end. It’s much the same for the UK all-formats too, though Mario Kart 8 is boosted into second place, just behind Ubisoft’s title. Here’s the UK individual top 40 chart.

i feel a bit sad about watch dogs being #1. mario kart 8 is an amazing game. but watch dogs is not bad either.
But Watchdogs got 3days before Mariokart came out…
and watch dogs also came out on 4 consoles not 1…Mario Kart is the champion. Question is which game sold more on 1 console, then it is a fair fight. Where are the actual numbers??

Watchdogs has been so over hyped! The gameplay is much worse than they made out. It’s boring and very repetitive. Yeah, it’s broke records but I bet most people who bought it are very disappointed. Just look at the user rating for it on Metacritic. .

2nd place for combined formats behind Watch_Dogs is very good. It’s nice to see that the Wii U does have a bit of an audience in the UK. This is only after 4 days as well!
Two things the chart is individual, It doesn’t track Eshop and it’s 1 day compared to 5. I would love for Nintendo to post Eshop purchase numbers.
That’s great for sales but we need something to keep the momentum up. That’s what really worries me because obviously Mario kart is going to sell like hot cakes when first released but will it keep selling enough to make the wiiu an influence in the uk and any other region for that matter

I’m happy for both games. I will be getting both Watch_Dogs and Mario Kart 8 for Wii U. Ubisoft was banking a lot on Watch_Dogs and I’m glad that it looks like it’s paying off.
MK went on sale on Friday….watch dogs had a three day head start guys….geez
Well, people need to understand something, Watch Dogs is for like 5 platforms (if PC is included) which makes millions of people with those consoles available to buy that game. While the Wii U has sold very poorly in the UK it still beat the shit out of the 360 and PS3 versions which have even more consoles sold since they are older consoles. But yeah, it’s interesting to see Mario Kart 8 so high.
Mario Kart did very well to beat the last gen Watch Dogs sales. As good a result as one could hope.
Don’t be too disappointed when it falls like a rock next week though, that is to be expected.

I’m curious. Did this chart take the eShop sales into account? Probably not. Meh. No matter. 3rd place is still good. In the next few weeks, we’ll see which game is better. Both are running on hype right now but only one is running on the game actually living up to the hype. Question is, which one? So far, the user rating on Metacritic for Watch_Dogs says Watch_Dogs is not the one living up to the hype. I guess we’ll find out as more & more users rate the game down the road.
