Nintendo’s Takashi Tezuka has expressed interest in a sequel to Super Mario Sunshine. Tezuka, who serves as the producer of a multitude of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games, would also like to revisit The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. He is currently working on two upcoming Wii U titles, Mario Maker and Yoshi’s Woolly World. Mario voice actor Charles Martinet previously demonstrated his yearning for a sequel to the Nintendo GameCube classic.
Is there any hope for a Mario Sunshine sequel or a 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask?

3D world was an amazing and beautiful game that combined all the elements from past 3D mario games. PLUS the added bonus of four player multiplayer, you can play 3D mario with your friends and family, making it either co-op or competitive using that point count-up at the end. Furthermore, the cat power up has been the most inventive new power-up i’ve ever seen and each stage has its own unique personality with a gimmick that makes you come back to it just to relive an unforgettable experience. The game also has amazing graphics and music that’ll get stuck in your head just like that mario 64 theme. Not saying the other games sucked, but 3D World is much better than dogshit, and maybe even mario 64…

I’ve never played Super Mario Sunshine, but I would appreciate another game like it. I really enjoyed Galaxy. I’d prefer an HD remake of the games on Wii U rather than a 3rd one. I really don’t want to go in space again, I’d prefer something newer. Mario’s been milking it a lot recently and I think it would be a better idea to just chill out for a second as Nintendo works on a bigger and more expansive Mario game while possibly giving an HD remake to hold people over.

Ouch, horrible mistake is right lol thankfully i still own a 1st generation wii console and still works perfectly! :) I had to it send it to nintendo once cause the graphics card started showing pixels on the screen haha that was due to the WiiConnect24 service and it was a problem for other people too! Super Mario Sunshine 2? Fuck yes, please! Super Mario Galaxy was good, not great, and I wasn’t too interested in Super Mario Galaxy 2, so Super Mario Galaxy 3 would not be a purchase for me not unless they did something big with it like say 2 player co-op: one person plays using the Gamepad & it’s screen while the 2nd player plays with a Wii U Pro Controller & uses the TV, or vice versa if player 1 wants to use the pro controller & TV while the 2nd player uses the Gamepad.
It’s time to have 2 player co-op in any new 3D Mario from now on…

I love Sunshine. I replay it every couple years or so, but I don’t think the game really needs a sequel. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that Nintendo needs to put out another Mario game where your movements and exploration aren’t limited to what a gadget will allow Mario to do in the game or timer for that matter. Mario 64 needs a true sequel. There doesn’t need to be a theme to the game. Give us the archetypal Mario worlds but expanded upon and let us parkour our way though them, so to speak.
Why does everyone hate on 3D World? I never understood that. Nintendo never intended for it to be a full blown 3D adventure like Galaxy or 64. It’s still the best Mario I’ve ever played so I will heavily defend it for what it is. >:(

This is the kind of stuff that baffles me from nintendo. You have very legacy driven games and franchises and they let them sit dormant and do nothing with them. Take Mario Galaxy series, been over 4 years now since Galaxy 2 and no word on a follow up sequel. Same thing with Metroid Prime series. Been 7 years on that and these games above I just mentioned sold extremely well and have some of the highest rated titles in the history of video games. Games that get 97, 98 scores on MetaCritic. Nintendo HAS to capitalize on that kind of success.

Well, it has been pretty long since Sunshine. And Mario is in great need of another sun-soaked vacation. I’m glad that people are showing interest. Super Mario Sunshine was a special game. I myself felt like I was on a tropical vacation during that summer when I first played it. Sweet memories. I even liked that cheesy commercial.

oh my gosh, Mario sunshine into opinion was the best Mario game. that game was the first game that I bought for the GameCube and is now one of few games I would actually hook up my GameCube to go back and screw around in. if they put Mario sunshine on the wii u I would pre order it the day pre orders go on sale. is prefer sunshine on wii u but to be honest I’m also okay with it on 3ds just because I want to visit that land again with a new story.

I know it may seem redundant now, but i think if they were to release at least Sunshine in the same vein as Windwaker HD, I think it would really benefit from having that hand-drawn, cel-shaded look that was seen in Windwaker HD. Maybe they can mix the 2, marrying them both to find Sunshine’s own style, but i just always thought Mario Sunshine and its tropical-like world would be amazing in that art style.

I bought and played this game recently…
I still hate the game. The game leaves me feeling like I took a 10 hour swim in chlorine water, my eyes felt burnt and I generally felt like crap.
The game is a fucking chore to play. The Pinata people are the most annoying characters. They’re like tropical Jews.
So no Mario Sunshine thanks, a new Mario game with a different concept would be the way to go.

Honestly, they should start with an HD remake for sunshine. Then, once they get a new console, if the HD remake did well, make the sequel. Because if they don’t have the remake the newer people might not know what sunshine is or have heard of it but never played it. And in the future, if they do make it I hope it isn’t on the hand held. It bugs me how they put luigi’s mansion dark moon on the 3ds, so I would like it if sunshine was on the console.
And for the love of god, no galaxy 3. As good as those games were, we don’t need a third.
