Now, this is interesting. Japanese publication The Nikkei is reporting that Bandai Namco is opening the rights to classic games such as Pac-Man and Galaxian so that other developers can step in a revisit the cult series. By doing this Bandai Namco hopes to revive interest in the games and make some money along the way. Here’s some the vintage titles that developers will be able to dig into:
- Pac-Man
- Xevious
- Galaxian
- The Tower of Druaga
- Tower of Babel
- Dragon Buster
- Wonder Momo
- Galaga
- Battle City
- Valkyrie no Bōken (The Adventure of Valkyrie)
- Yōkai Dōchūki (Shadow Land)
- Wagan Land
- Dig Dug
- Star Luster
- Sky Kid
- Genpei Tōma Den
Thanks to those who sent this in.

yea sure, today and tomorrow i won’t believe a thing in any news site.
Ha, this one is legit :-)
But what if the source isn’t? #conspiracy
hahah, meaning you have already posted the one that isn’t?
april fooling people into lawsuits would be quite evil!
That’s the joke!
I think Nintendo should take an crack out of Pac-Man
Miyamoto’s favorite character is Pac-Man so I think he’d want to do it!
So they can bitch and moan “copyright infringement” again…?
And as of Xevious and Galaxian
Platinum Games
I would be pysched for a new Dig Dug game.
Dig dug is the best thing in the world!
I feel like people are gonna ruin the beautiful little guys….
Considering what happened with Space Invaders in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these retro revivals wind up being royaly fucked.
Hello, would you be interested in hiring an editor to help you out with your site?
I might be! I will send you an email.
It’s impressive how prolific the software houses were back in the day.
Namco, I hope you opening rights of your 80’s games means that we’re getting a new Dig Dug and a true Pac-Man successor (Not that Ghostly Adventures bullshit). A new Yokai Dochuki and Wonder Momo would be nice too.
Pac-Man, like Sonic, is a franchise that is too deeply rooted in the technology of its era to make a good modern, high budget 3D game that even slightly resembles its original outing.
Reblogged this on NEOTAKU!.
Tower of Babel? Bruh they copied off of FF4’s tower of babel name. thats not kule
Tower of Babel= July 18, 1986
Final Fantasy 4= July 19, 1991
Lol fail, dude.
First off, the Tower of Babel is a biblical concept, not SE’s intellectual property.
Secondly, Namco Bandai’s Tower of Babel is 5 years older than Final Fantasy 4.
If Nintendo can get the rights for Pacman, he can stay in the rest of the smash bros games!
Also DigDug for smash.
Take a note and look Nintendo. Namco just fired their shots at you after that NON-PROFIT fan made Mario 64 project.
Only stupid people can think of companies as if they were high school girls bitching at each other.
Namco is doing this because their popularity is dwindling.
And Nintendo isn’t because of..what again? Oh yeah. So goddamn sensitive on even letting the public take a peek at their stuff. They’re like the greediest kid in elementary school.
You really need to get that sand out of your vagina.
You really need to come up with better insults.
Nintendo should do something with Pac-man! Heck, Bandai Namco should just let Nintendo make 3D Pac-Man platforming games.
Im sorry, but could you have your we developer fix these jpegs in your articles. I can see ringing artifacts in some of them. Its really annoying.
Yeah, April fools city. Too bad, lots of cool YouTube videos would surly be made if this were true.
Are you listening, Sega?
Nah, they would rather sell of their old stuff to the mobile casuals and PC Master Race. Plus, they will always give Sonic that special treatment to have console releases in the future.
Nintendo better buy Mega Man if they were to buy Pac-Man. I would be EXTREMELY disappointed if Meg Man went somewhere else
If Megaman went somewhere else…. that would be a disaster. Nintendo is one of the only developers that could do Megaman justice. But, most likely, if Nintendo doesn’t get Megaman, then it would probably go to some other company (like Microsoft or Ubisoft) who would ruin the character.
