The first Global Testfire event for Splatoon, which took place earlier today, encountered heavy traffic that prevented a number of Wii U owners from participating from the get-go. Those who weren’t able to partake in the one-hour demo event were met by the following error message: “Unable to connect because the server has reached its connection limit and cannot accept any more connections at this time.” The next Testfire events will be held later today, May 9th, at both 4-5 a.m. and 12-1 p.m. Pacific time.
Splatoon Global Testfire Experiences Heavy Traffic That Prevented Players From Joining

Did this affect a lot of people? I didn’t really see any server complaints over social media. I had that error for about 1 minute, got in a minute after the servers were up.
Butbutbut I thought Nintendo’s online services can handle everything according to its fanboys?!
Sit back down, Coco.
Your habit of blowing things out of proportion isn’t gonna work here.
And Nintendo is always wrong and out of touch according to Nintendo’s haters, so what’s yout point…
>>>Its point is to be irrelevant, I’d say it succeeded
*>>>
You must mean PSN every time it downed on its own or hacker attack that occurs every week.
It told me that twice and than I had almost no issues after that, it must have been from so many people trying to get in at once on the demo server.
I didn’t experience any problems on my end.
I only got that message a couple of times I eventually got in though it is such a fun game
well it is a test after all i got in anyways so fun!!
Happened to me maybe two or three times. I guess they’ll prepare better for the second testfire.
hey
It kept me out for a little bit but then I got in. I’m not sure how many connections they were allowing for the testfires, but, it seemed like it was a lot, because I haven’t seen much complaining at all. Maybe some people were trying to join too late, I dunno.
Online problems with a Nintendo game? Shocking.
Any online game is bound to have problems. Don’t be ignorant.
That’s not what Nintendrones say.
>>>That’s what you imbeciles say, I’ve never heard any fan or fanboy say such thing ever>>>
Exactly!!! Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX +10-ups

its a dem/beta most likly testing
Well, that is part of the reason to do pre launch testing, to test how much traffic you are going to be able to handle and be prepared for the actual launch. A game so heavily focused on online multiplayer cannot afford to have issues once it is actually out.
^ This.
I had no problems with getting in along with everybody else. My Nintendo News is just dumb
Played one match literally 10 minutes before it ended. Problem connecting once because lobby was full but no other problems after. Surprisingly fun ngl
I got this message a few times, and I started the demo even before the official start time. I was able to get in after a few tries though. That was fun!
At least enough people got to play that all Twitter could talk about was how overpowered the Roller is!
I did notice that personally. It basically kills in one hit as a Melee attack but you still take quite a few shots to be taken out.
There is a counter to it, though: the charge weapons. A long distance shot or two takes Roller users out much faster than pretty much anything else.
If anything, the default splattershots and ink balloons felt underpowered.
I had zero troubles and I have very slow internet. Fun game…
Also finding people was super quick, faster than finding people in Mario Kart.
I live 10km into the country. And it is crystal clear online!
After spamming ZL+ZR for about a min, I eventually got in. Bigger news would be if the servers crashed due to nintendo underestimating the number of people trying to play at the same damn time! The testfire went smoothly regardless, I’m happy :]
Got in, ran flawless, had fun! Splatoon FTW !
This is probably exactly why they had the testfire. Now that we/they know there were connection problems, they know to upgrade the servers.
Outside of this, the matches seemed flawless. No latency, no jumpy, laggy players, and you could even play a minigame while the game searched for opponents and teammates. So right now they got *most* things right.
Eh, not very true. I have 100mb/sec, best internet in my area (only saying to avoid the “you have crap internet” bullshit), and I witnessed a lot of latency/lag, and it wwould kick me from too many matches saying I “have no internet connection”, which is impossible since I was streaming the whole time and not even a single frame was dropped. Definitely server issues. They have a lot of work to do.
I did have a couple matches that were GREAT, and I found new matches pretty quick. But there are certainly issues. Really liking the game though, just within that one hour I am completely hooked.
Same here, but I did not have a single issue. It ran buttery smooth, I played the whole hour without any disconnection issues. I missed this morning though, I didn’t wake up in time.
I’d imagine it was more crowded the first time, than the second. What online multiplayer game doesn’t have a few connection issues every now and then anyway. I’ve yet to experience them, but I’m sure it will happen eventually.
Regardless, it ran exceptionally well for a test run in my opinion.
Oh yeah , my Nintendo news jumps at any chance to bash Nintendo . Everyone already knows this! It’s run by Xbots!
I had only one problem in the third match of four I played. I got disconnected on it. It was hard to get in the first few minutes but I got in after I fixed the net by reconnecting to it in the settings menu.
It wasn’t that bad I got that ONCE. Anyway this is what they wanted, they wanted it to get slammed and they wanted it to go down (and it really didn’t). It’s the whole point of it.
Couldn’t connect at first… waited ten minutes and had no more problems getting connected.
Sometimes it wouldn’t find a match.. so I would just resend… and it always would work after two attempts. Similar to other online experiences I’ve had on Xbox Live.
flawless and fun
I got connection lost once before I started the game, and second time after a match, but otherwise the servers were very stable and gaming was not interrupted.
I only had problems at the very very start, ran smooth for the rest of the hour
The online gameplay is excellent. loads of fun and I had 0 lag in every match I played which was about 10 I think!
So people had issues with the test demo and people are acting like it’s a big deal its not like Battlefield launching and having millions of people not being able to connect. A online demo to see what they need to do to ensure the game runs flawlessly when it launches birilliant.
This^^^
I’m sick to DEATH of hearing about Splatoon. Nintendo Of America plastered my freakin’ twitter page with stupid Splatoon tweets. Had a hard time even finding the MyNintendoNews posts.
“Nintendo needs to advertise more! That’s why their games aren’t selling!”
“Nintendo is advertising too much! I’m tired of hearing about their new game!”
You do realize that is a ridiculous statement to make right? This is their new IP for their home console and you want them to advertise for it less?
>>>Lord Reggienator: The cattle will never be satisfied no matter what we do>>>
>>>I say, erase the cattle>>>
Yes, I would LOVE to erase all of you cattle. Then I wouldn’t have anything to complain about.
>>>You complain about everything, gaming is clearly not for you, specially since your name says it all>>>
Just erase yourself!
I say,
ALL HAIL CAPTAIN CATTLE COMMANDER !
My bumb news.
When I first jumped in wtf?…screw that i’m gonna keep trying till i get in!
It finally started working 5 minutes after…XD

My internet isn’t reliable so I was getting disconnected a lot, but all the matches I played that did not disconnect ran butter smooth with no latency.
An hour will surely cause traffic. I’ll wait for the game when I can get online anytime I want.
In GA in uS with no probelms last night or this morning
Well once you get into the game, it’s actually pretty good.
The serves are good too.
I had few problems with this. I did get a couple of “cannot connect to partner’s device” issues but this could be resolved by simply trying to join a game again.
Just had to keep at it.
I didn’t really have any problem. In the entire hour I had to re-select join only three times. In each instance I was notified almost immediately that I couldn’t find a party, rel-selected join, and was in another game in less than a minute. I probably played more than a dozen matches, and that was after having toyed around with the controls in the tutorial. It was a cleaner experience than I’ve ever had in an online shooter Beta.
Lucky i was one of the people who was able to join so fluently then, the online works great if you join a match no lag that i noticed. But the testfire times are very inconvenient for multiple timezones
man they need to make more demo times. so here is my reveiws for the weapons
splattershot jr: its ok but not that strong fast firerate though
splattershot: not so fast firerate but increadable distance
charger: i cant stand it, i tried but im not good at it
ROller: OP as HECK
rollers go down easy with splatter.
Never had this problem. I think this article is to just get the haters start hating
This is probably not what Nintendo was thinking would happen. 1 hour would motivate a large number of people to try it out not keep them away
No problems for me, just a few error messages when I tried to join but that’s it.
I’ve only experienced a few error messages at start up and between games but it wasn’t a problem at all once you get in to a game.
Couldn’t connect the first time. First game got canned due to technical problems but after that pure fun

I’m impressed. I’m waiting a while on this game. Even if online works fine. I want to see what people come up with to communicate.
I hope the final build has friend lobbies and invites or its a no go.
Apparently in one of the updates (they said so in the nintendo direct) if one million players gets to level ten they will open a new mode and have friend lobbies with settings you can customize
I totally missed out. Wasn’t even aware the demo was timed exclusive. Maybe I’ll try when the next one happens.
Well isn’t this the point? All this time I was under the impression that this time demo was a stress tester for their servers.
This is something other developers should do before releasing online games.
I feel privelaged then. I had trouble connecting right @ 10 [CT], but after 2 or 3 tries, I was in. My last match, however, took a while to fill the last 2 player slots, but that might’ve been because the hour was nearly up & the servers were either closing or there was an influx of more players. I waited by playing the mini game on the Gamepad, but eventually the remaining 2 players were found & I eeked out 1 more match.
you privileged white straight male scum.
because of you lesbian women of color were not able to connect. DOWN WITH THE PATRIARCHY!!!!!1!!
😅
I did a couple of times, but after trying for a while I went in. it has happened to me a couple of times.
This is just perfect. So many people who spat on it are instantly hooked just from playing a timed demo, and many people who said it was going to flop should be more than speechless right about now. Anyone want to add something?
Bayonetta is an amazing game, and still didn’t do great. Just because people like the demo or because the game is amazingly phenomenal doesn’t mean it’ll fly off the shelves.
Well doesn’t that suck?
Me and my buddies had no trouble getting into every one of the three test fire runs, and stayed in for the whole hour each time…
(Oh, and we had a LOT of fun with it, by the way…. I think Nintendo has a winner with this one!)
The current testfire going on is a total failure on my end. I got in a few minutes before the official opening time, started a round, then everything froze. It froze the entire Wii u system.. I had to do a hard reset on the system . Then I got back in to the game and tried to connect, but it won’t let me in at all now. It is continually giving me that error, too many people playing. Been saying that for a solid 30 minutes now. This testfire was definitely an eye opener for me and brought me to the decision of not buying this game. It’s almost launch time for this game, and they are showing the world that they can’t even support the number of players for this game. I was really looking forward to this game too. But I’m glad they made the mistake of revealing their weakness before the launch date. Now I won’t be wasting my money on a game that won’t work.
Ironically, by not buying the game (because of the choked servers [for a free demo]), you will be helping to alleviate the server issue.
I just got in. Battle Time!
More like a Global Testfailure
