Both Sony and Microsoft have their Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality solutions for the near-future, but Nintendo thus far is without one. That’s not something that really concerns Shigeru Miyamoto who doesn’t feel like it’s a good fit with Nintendo’s current philosophy. As you already know Miyamoto is more interested in social gaming with family and friends in the same room. However, we did hear earlier that Nintendo is currently experimenting with Virtual Reality as Reggie said “We that do our own internal experiments, but we don’t believe it’s ready for prime time yet.” Here’s what Shigeru Miyamoto had to say about VR.
“The current types of virtual reality aren’t really a good fit for Nintendo’s philosophy of trying to create entertainment that people can play together in the living room,” said Miyamoto. “We’re constantly looking at different technology and experimenting with different elements of it, but we’re not feeling virtual reality is currently in a place where it’s ready to be released – as a product that fits with our philosophy of fitting in the living room.”
“We’re here at E3 this year to really focus on the games that are launching within the next year or so,” he said. “We’re not showing off or showcasing anything that’s further down the road, and that’s why you don’t see us here with any samples of potential virtual reality type experiences.”

My guess is that 1) Reggie is always doing damage control and talking tough, but he never really says anything solid. 2) they have said several times they are always working on something to that effect 3) the word done with the Wii U, 3DD, panorama view, and AR games exe seem more like excperaments. 4) the Wii U, and possibly the 3DD were stop gap systems that were made for Nintendo to test the waters for a few new ideas but were never true next Gen 5) they are most likely working on AR tech closer to what Microsoft has done with hololense (which could always become full VR when needed) I think they are down playing it because they don’t like to seem like they do what ever one else is doing. But the above statement seems to say they are working on it, its just not something they wanted to show this year (probably because its part of the NX platform

And yea they have a tendency to “lie” they don’t like to seem “trendy” or like they are doing what their competition is doing. They mean well I’m sure but some times they were talk seems a bit stepford wives. They they just pretend nothing else exists out side the walls of Nintendo. So I’m pretty sure they are working in AR, and they well most likely make a system more like the Xbox one, but possibly more power since by then the Xbox one well be a few years old. I hope they just focus on making their old controllers better (new updated versions) and don’t bother outside of AR/VR. And I hope they expand amiibo to other toy ideas (action figures, play sets, Legos, maybe a playmat that can since a amiibos location like a chess board)

Secondly, wtf happened to its QOL product, and why haven’t we heard anything about it? The thing is they ate flying off the shelfs though. I’m more of a fan of AR because it can always be VR when its needed, but can AR otherwise. But VR is not a see through screen so it well always really be VR. Its not really a fad because its always bin a in damand technology its just hard to get right, with pricing, performance, and the content that makes people want to buy it to use it. That said with what Xbox is doing you well have 3 to 4 headsets to choose from and they can all stream games in 3D. With ocular shipping with a Xbox one controller 🎮 it well catch on quickly as a way to play windows and steam games in VR as well. If Nintendo is smart they well just partner with other companies in the same way, let the customer decide what headset they want (Viv, hololense, oculos, Samsung, exe) and then just stream that content. Especially for any VC game were no motion controls or second screen is needed. Gaming pushes mainstream teck, in the last 8 years its pushed graphics, rendering, wifi, internet speed, cloud, 3D sense cameras, motion controls, touch screen, toys, NFC, Bluetooth, drones, and now clearly VR/AR so no its not a fad
They did augment reality with the 3DS, both FaceRaiders and the cards which were both pack in software. When they are talking about it, they are referring to system based around it.
The era of split-screen or multiplayer in one room is slowly dying. I give Miyamoto props for trying to continue to keep it going, but as cliche as it sounds, it’s not “the future”.
If Nintendo really wanted to, they could probably put out something where the VR game is collaborative and shared by multiple people together, whether they’re doing it online or with another person in the room. VR (and AR) is simply how it is executed.

Looks like we won’t be getting a VR LoZ anytime soon. This is the one gimmick I wish Nintendo would jump on. I don’t care about playing with people in the living room, and many other fans probably feel the same. Very few sit in a living room to play anything, if you want to give us multiplayer give us online multiplayer. I feel Nintendo’s future is looking bleak.
I personally don’t care for online multiplayer much. So, if they’re going to go down that road, I sincerely hope they keep local multiplayer an option, because limiting it only to online (like so many developers do nowadays) sucks the fun of out what could have been fun at parties or hangouts. Me and my circle of friends play Smash Bros every single time we hangout.
Some of us still find time to socialize, and I much prefer couch multiplayer than online. I appreciate Nintendo realizes there are still people like that.
By all means Nintendo should keep local multiplayer, but they should add in online multiplayer as an option too. I don’t have any gamer buds, and as a result I’ve missed out on quite a couple of gaming modes. Most of those modes are minor things, but no one should HAVE to have someone else to experience the full game.
If they want to implement Wii U as “VR”, they should make some sort of helmet were you slip in the Wii U GamePad and use that as you vision and sound! Problem solved! B) haha

WiiU is capable of streaming picture for 2 gamepads (i know they havent made games using 2 gamepads but its still capable of that) so Nintendo if wanted, could release helmet that has 1 screen for both eyes(like current VR headsets do) and make it compatible with WiiU so that the system streams content to it, add VR headset its own processing powers and you have pretty capable VR headset for the WiiU.

Wii/DS/3DS have been pretty successful systems for Nintendo, more successful than what their competitions offered, all these systems had some sort of “gimmick” (i hate the term because many standards like rumble were once considered “gimmick”), so you really cant blame Nintendo for trying to do things differently than traditional game systems, when their non traditional ones were the most successful ones.

NES/SNES had two control ports for games, so you could play co-op games like Contra,SF etc. on them. N64 had 4 controller ports so that 4 people could play party games like Smash together. GC had that GBA link cable connectivity for games like FSA so that ppl could bring GBA´s and play some multiplayer. It has been their philosophy.
The atari also had two controller ports. Nintendo used to focus on making amazing single player experiences, and coop was always an after thought. A much welcomed after thought. Im not saying they didnt develop coop games. They did, they just focused more on the single player… It wasnt until the success of the Wii that they decided they wanted to start making party games..
Now party games is thier philosophy? They wont make a VR headset because the “family” cant play it together…. How can you defend that?
