You will be pleased to know that Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada has explained that Pokken Tournament isn’t Tekken with Pokemon as some of you may have thought. Instead it is a fighter that is specifically developed with Pokemon fans in mind. Harada also says that Pokken Tournament isn’t made for established fighting game players, which presumably means it will be extremely accessible, but will have plenty of depth for more experienced players.
“It’s a solid versus game, but at its core, it’s an action game for Pokémon fans. People might think that because we’ve worked on games like Tekken and Soul Calibur or because of the name ‘Pokkén,’ that this game is made for established fighting game players, but I’d like to come straight out and say ‘no, it isn’t.’”
“The tech to make the game and the knowhow behind the massive amount of animations comes from our experience working on the games we’ve made before, but with the gameplay, we’ve set our sights on Pokémon fans.”
“Having the camera looking at the characters facing each other from the side with their stamina bars on the top left and right of the screen is an established fighting game format, but that’s something that experienced fighting game players can understand on instinct.” Harada explained. “That might give Pokémon fans the impression that the game is harder than it is, so we’ve intentionally gotten rid of that. Newcomers should especially focus on blocking.”
Thanks, MasterPikachu6

Eh, doesn’t matter.
It’s still a fighting game.
That’s cool to hear!
I wish there was something like that.
I was excited by this being more of a fighting game, with less Pokemon elements.
Like, Suicine? Pikachu?
What about some fighting Pokemon, that represent styles of fighting in some hand-to-hand combat?
Like Hitmonlee and Hariyama, or Hawlucha or Sawk?
>>>Whatever, just release it for the Wii U in the near future>>>
Seems much more likely they’ll be saving this for the NX now. Possible they could always have it on both, and a superior version on the NX. Then again, who knows what the hell the NX will even end up being.
I just hope it’s a lot better than the Wii U in every way possible.
Man, it sounds disappointing when I think about it. This could have been Nintendo’s Tekken 7, but (to me) It looks like the Naruto games. Still might pick it up for Pokemon sake, or if a demo sways we otherwise.
So why did you call it POKKEN?
Because it is Tekken with Pokémon, duh.
Dear Lord
Cause Ken means fist in Japanese lmfao
Just put it on Wii U with online an a few more Pokemon’s an am good
Pocket Monster MMO or no $$$.

Really? Because it’s so hard to tell them both apart. B/
Seriously, it is Tekken with Pokemon as much as Hyrule Warriors is Dynasty with Zelda. We’re not being fooled here.
Not that I completely disagree, obviously it can’t shy away from that. But I think he means from a Gameplay perspective, I’m going to assume it will be easier than Tekken and Soul Calibur.
Since he is saying it is more action based, so it will probably be more in line with previous games like Dragon Ball Z or Naruto. In that they don’t necessarily require a lot a control input like your typical fighting game.
Just a guess with the action thing, and him wanting to aim more towards Pokemon fans.
Whoops. Did not mean to capitalize gameplay.
