With more than 300,000 units sold between all versions of the Fire Emblem Fates game during its launch weekend, the Nintendo 3DS strategy RPG earns a place in the record books as the fastest-selling game in the history of the long-running, critically acclaimed franchise in the United States. The game sold more than five times as many units as 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening, the previous record holder in the United States, during its first three days of availability.
“Both fans and critics are falling for Fire Emblem Fates, and the early sales numbers prove the game’s undeniable appeal,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “This strong momentum for Nintendo 3DS is only the beginning, as many more high-quality exclusive games are set to launch for the hand-held system over the next few months.”
Breaking down the sales numbers reveals that Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright was the top seller between both versions, with the more challenging Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest coming close behind. But the adventures are just getting started for players across the country, as people can choose to purchase the other version of the game for only $19.99 through the in-game shop. Both versions of Fire Emblem Fates offer unique stories with new characters, game play and plot twists.
The first DLC map for Fire Emblem Fates launched for free on Feb. 19, with additional paid maps coming on a regular basis through April 21. By purchasing Map Pack 1 DLC for only $17.99, 11 maps plus bonus content will be available as they are released at a discount when compared to buying each map individually. When purchased individually, all of the maps would total more than $24. On March 10, a third story, Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, launches for a suggested retail price of only $19.99 exclusively as DLC for Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. This third path also offers a new adventure that sheds new light on the characters and settings from the other two games, and is ideal for players who have already completed one or both of the other versions.

Great job Torrential Downpour, you failed. The downfall of NoA is soon upon us.
Except the fact that Nintendo of America have brought us the most epic of great news that is Fire Emblem Fates. Over 300,000 in combined formats sold in just THREE FREAKING DAYS!!!
With most of the content removed, bad dubbing with no direction, crap translation. Yep I am saying that the downfall of NoA is coming sooner than expected.
-||Most of the content, so by your logic people are buying a game with half a chapter only||-
Using “logic” loosely there.
You think Corrin who is played by the voice of Leonardo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) has bad acting, you must be out of your goddamned mind. The voice of Azura happens to be a PROFESSIONAL ACTRESS and Broadway singer. Get with the program and DEAL WITH IT!
Hey Debbie Downer, shut up.
You’re exaggerating wayyyy too much.
I’m out of salt. Can i borrow some?
Listen… I hate to break it to you…. But you’re a few years too late…
Not only have the “Nintendo is doomed” sayers passed, but we’ve had time to mock them and move on.
I am he most bitter of Nintendo’s fans… But I’ve accepted that they will survive… Because of how much liquidity they have, because they are willing to abandon their ancient, loyal subjects, because..whatever.. But they are nowhere near “downfall” “doom” or ending…
If you’re just trying to be funny or sarcastic… Work on your sarcasm.. It would be much funnier if you just said, “It’s over, Nintendo is doomed.” – yiu’d at least get a chuckle out of us.
But he’s talking about NoA, not Nintendo in general, so why would he say “Nintendo is doomed!” if he’s only talking about the…. “people” at NoA?
European release! NOW! Think I’ve been trough every western FE games 3 times. Except the first one, been trough like… 8. Almost 300 hours in Awakening now… Need Fates NOW!
This is great news. For a series that was almost dead just a couple of years ago, it sure has turned itself around. Looks like there are more FE games coming in our future.
Yeah. I distinctly remember Nintendo / IG saying that Awakening was most likely the last F.E and they were basically going out in a blaze of glory, but turns out that blaze was a F.E. Phoenix rising instead. They can’t stop now. I hope they really space out the releases by several years though.
A new one every 2 years would be fine.
What about the SMTxFE?
does spin off count?
I wouldn’t since it’s not a Fire Emblem game.
Yeah, every 2-3 would suit me as well.
Well this is good news
Wow. So for all the “campaigning” that some people were having for trying to make the game fail to sell well just because some of the face-rubbing features were cut…
… seems to have backfired.
It goes to show that most people don’t care. And just want to play the game.
Exactly!!! People really wanted it to fail when they don’t know the entire franchise is probably still at risk (even after Awakening selling well, it was still meant to be the last game). And it was all just because of a fucking petting feature.
Same thing happened with Splatoon, and look what happened.~
In any case, I want to buy this game, but I have yet to play Awaking. (I own a copy but haven’t opened it. Yeah: I’m stupid for not playing the game yet even though I have a huge backlog of games that I have yet to complete. So sue me.) When I do get around to playing Fates, I’ll play Birthright first (because,… reasons.) then I’ll go over to Conquest and Revelation (whenever that comes out).
Play Awakening! It’s great! I’m not sure if these newer games are better or if they’d affect your enjoyment of FE:A, but just to stay on the safe side, you should probably just play that one first.
Omg. You should play awakening first. Yiu have a copy of awakening and haven’t played it?
Dear God man! What the fuck is wrong with you????
-||Bring me this specimen for examination of its cerebro||-
Now, now. Maybe he just finds the other games on his backlog more important than “Waifu Wars: No Petting Allowed.” lol I should watch that Honest Trailer again.
And people think that Torrential Downpour is actually working when in reality its not. The downfall of NoA is close at hand.
Yeah! Besides… You can still slowly check them out… You can see not touch. So NOA made it a strip club instead of a harem. It’s still fun!
(I’m not as depraved as that makes me sound…)
This shows nothing but the power, appeal and penetrance of Awakening — the main and probably the only strong reason by which fates had this noteworthy launch in NA.
*Snickers* Penetrance.~
…..Yes, I’m immature sometimes.
LOL!
You pervert. Shame on whoever like your comment.
Someone named Jaded liked it. That guy is probably the most sick.
Agreed
I still can’t believe that so many people love this series. It definitely doesn’t look like my cup of tea. Every time I watch a video based on a Fire Emblem game, I always have the same opinion. “It looks completely stupid and boring”. I doubt that I could EVER like this series. I hate the gameplay.
Haha I understand if you don’t like Strategy games. I felt the same way to until I tried out Sealed Sword. It’s actually really fun. But I can understand this. These types of games don’t seem to be the most accessible people
Which is hard for me to understand since people still play turn based RPGs like Pokemon.
That’s totally your right!!
May I ask…
1. Do you like turn based strategy?
2. Did you like advanced wars?
3. Did you like Final Fantasy Tactics?
4. Do you like anime?
Your answers are irrelevant, no matter what, you totally should be allowed to not like the game without anyone giving you shit.
But I love turn based strategy (starting with playing Chess as a small kid) and I really like a good story. So for me, it’s so fucking great!!
Have you played them before? Your opinion could change, you know. There’s always a lot of things that don’t look all that appealing but then turn out to be super fun once you actually try it. Happened to me plenty of times with some games before.
I’ve thought about trying a Fire Emblem game out many times. But I just can’t see myself actually attempting to play. Not only because I’m getting more picky with games now that I’m older, but because I’m SWAMPED with games I haven’t played. The curse of being a collector. The last few games that I took a gamble on and fell in love with was some PS3 games. Grand Theft Auto V, the entire Assassin’s Creed series, Sleeping Dogs, and probably others. And way back in the day, Pikmin was another gamble. I bought that out of pure faith in Shigeru Miyamoto. In the beginning, I hated it. Mainly because I wasn’t very good at it, and it was frustrating me. I almost got rid of it. But I kept playing it, and it eventually grew on me. Then I found myself obsessed and wanting more, more, MORE. Now I’m a forever fan of Pikmin. But not all of my gambles paid off. I bought Tales Of Symphonia years ago when it first came out, and I hated the one thing that got the most praise…..the battle system. I never even cared about getting past the first area in the game before I tossed it aside and never touched it again. But all of those mentioned games had more appeal to me than Fire Emblem does.
Haha Sleeping Dogs. Nice. I’m loving that one so far. Also, you know there is a demo for Fire Emblem Awakening, right? You should try that. And speaking of Pikmin 3, I couldn’t get into that one at first. I found it kind of boring. After I played a bit more, I think it’s pretty good. I never did fully get into it though. I just thought it was better than when I first played it.
I wasn’t actually going to buy Fire Emblem Fates Conquest, but I decided I’ll make some youtube videos of it.
Nice channel! Just subbed and twitter followed :)
What’s your channel??
Just goes to show that people are content buying half-assed, mistranslated, censored and obvious cash-grab products (3 versions? really? DLC on launch? get outta here.)
This isn’t Fire Emblem at all, I think I’ve rather had the series die at Awakening than have it mutate into this disgusting pile of vomit.
It’s funny because you haven’t even played the game, yet you claim it’s “not Fire Emblem at all”. This is the best Fire Emblem game in years (arguably ever), and it’s also the one that is selling the most. This is a good thing.
I feel sorry for you, because apparently you can’t enjoy a game if it doesn’t allow you to pet your waifu continuously.
Hold still, i need your tears on my fries.

You like wet fries? I think you mean salt. Lol.
I do. His tears are filled with salt.~
Too Harsh.
Great stuff. A lot of people are upset that FE is changing, but looking at how things were going the series never would’ve survived otherwise. As long as the strategy and basic gameplay remains, I’m happy, and man, Fates has HARDCORE gameplay. The censoring is minmalistic, and the versions are stacked with exlusive content. Awesome times to be an FE fan (Y).
awesome, it is a good game indeed, I am playing the conquest version and I am fully enjoying it, Im playing normal-classic because lol, don’t want to stress myself, just want to have fun. hheeh.
Same here, playing Conquest on classic/normal is pure bliss. The map variety is amazing, the rebalanced pair-up system and weapon triangle is perfect, the story, characters and support conversations are all awesome, adding stuff to your castle after every chapter is really fun too. I can’t believe how good and addicting this game is.
Oh and this is something almost nobody is talking about, but I really like the music in this game. That preparation theme gets me pumped up every time.
Yeah, the musics are amazing! The game is really great, I love the castle part with the buildings and castle battles, so nice adding to the game.
That one theme that plays in the field or something. I forgot the name. It was “Journey” something. ITS AMAZING!!!
Ugh… I’m playing on hard…. It’s so so hard.. I have to take breaks because I don’t want to lose anyone, but I love it.
I actually started on Hard too, but it was harder than I thought it would be. By Chapter 7, I was already having a lot of trouble with those Faceless monsters and their poison ability, so I started a new game on Normal. (I could’ve just dropped the difficulty and not lose progress, but it didn’t feel like a proper punishment, lol)
But yeah, Normal is a challenge too. I suppose it’s a bit more forgiving overall, but it’s not too easy or anything. A poor strategy will still get you killed, so that’s nice.
I’m playing hard-classic… It’s fucking hard… If I didn’t have such a masochistic personality, I’d drop to normal. I’m sure Normal is still quite a challenge though! Conquest is rough!
yeah, if you dont take care, it’s easy to lose units on normal too, for me it has beeing the same of playing awakening on hard for some reason. If i’d play on hard i think i would be so mad hahaha.
Well deserved indeed. :)
Looks like Fire Emblem is here to stay. Can’t be happier for it.
Pingback: Fire Emblem Fates had the Best Launch Sales in Franchise History (United States) - PlayerEssence
Best selling start for FE? Even without the petting game? Imagine that.~
Cool. Good for the game. The question is though, is it selling well on it’s own merit or is it selling because of Awakening’s success? *shrug* Still not getting it, though. Least not yet. But least Fire Emblem won’t be leaving anytime soon, so no rush. I’ll get this when it’s cheaper down the road. I don’t want to pay full price for a game that is still missing a feature. Everyone that has bought it so far, have fun. The longer you guys enjoy the game, the more reason I’ll have to get it later on.
I hear ya… But the feature is still there… It’s been downplayed, but the feature is mostly there…. If you enjoy turn-based RPG, it’s worth it.,
Playing on the permadeath and Classic difficulty was kind of a bad idea on Nohr. I’ve lost most of my men during a certain chapter (10) and have four allies left for the rest of my run.
LOL
Eh, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
Can’t wait for the crossover and will get all 3 fire emblem games later
Between Fire Emblem and Xenoblade…. I’ve got my hands totally full with gaming. Both games can take 100+ hours to totally complete.
I’m still playing x buy may take a break when the crossover comes out because it will take 500 to possibly 1000 hours for me to get 100 percent for everything and I am maxed out at level 60 but still have to get 2 manufacturers left to get and max out and I’m still grinding a few of the npcs I can bring with me to the chapter 9 battle then when I’m done grind the npcs I couldn’t bring with me then do side affinity missions then npc side quests then side quests then do chapter 10 and I will keep doing that until I beat the main story then do all of the missions and get all sells and max them out etc etc and Elma and Lin are almost maxed out and when the crossover comes out I will definitely put at least 300 hours into the game depending on how much content is in the game
With the great success of Awakening leading into Fate’s release, this makes perfect sense.
good goys!
At least this means more games will come in the future. I know the 3DS is what gave success to Awakening, (and now these two) but I really want to see another Fire Emblem on a Nintendo console too.
I gotta say, i love scalping Nintendo’s sheep.
Eh, it’s been a week and I haven’t gotten it, but MAYBE I’ll get Conquest this weekend. Maybe. Still don’t approve of Soliel’s support convos changing and the watered-down petting because now it isn’t the exact same game as the eastern versions.
I shouldn’t stop supporting the developers because the corrupted North American branch twisted their vision. But said branch will feel my/our wrath if trends continue.
