The Nintendo Ds is a fantastic machine and a system which cannot have enough praised lavished upon it, but if there’s one feature that could have been implemented far better it’s the online friend’s code system.
All that infuriating kerfuffle you’ve more than likely experienced with the Ds is set to be abolished on Nintendo’s forthcoming home console Wii, which will only require one friend code per system unlike the Ds which requires one friend code per game.
Nintendo have always stated that it included the controversial friend’s code system to allow online play to be both free and simple, which is why it’s chosen its inclusion on the Wii. Allowing gamers to have just one code per system rather than per game, should allow for a more enjoyable online experience, rather than an occasionally frustrating one.
Brilliant, I was really worried they were going to do a DS on us.
Indeed, I can’t stress enough how much more enjoyable online play is set to be with the inclusion of just one set of friends codes instead of a multitude.
Good move by Nintendo. They’re really taking their online support to another level with the Wii in general.
Nice blog btw :D
Thank you :)
I’m hoping Nintendo can create a formitable alternative to Xbox Live that invokes plenty of user interactivity, and collabaration.
I don’t think Nintendo will exactly go down the Xbox Live route. This is because they’re very cautious about online play, seeing as they have a wide audience and they’d like to keep it as family freindly as possible (at least that’s what I figure). That doesn’t mean that they can’t have a fantastic online service though, just look at the message board feature they’re adding, and Mii characters will make cool avatars for online gaming / communities.
One thing I’m sure of, Nintendo had multiplayer games on the Gamecube that would have been fantastic with online play. This time they’ll have Wi-Fi Connection.
You’re indeed correct, Xbox Live is aimed at a completely different demographic compared to the Wii connect 24 service which is set to appeal to everyone. Sadly it will not offer some of the major interactivity and the customizable options of Xbox Live, but considering it’s a free service it looks like it’s set to be a hoot :)
