Smash Brothers Brawl US launch didn’t go without an unfortunate hitch.
After legions of Japanese gamers reported disc reading problems with their Wii consoles which were rejecting the dual layer Super Smash Brothers Brawl disc in January it now appears exactly the same problem has surfaced for American gamers.
It’s not a disc problem, it’s a Wii problem, the laser is getting covered in grime and making it unable to read dual layered discs.
If you have an air filter, or are a non-smoker, you should be fine. Don’t put your cat dirt box next to your Wii, maybe get a hepa filter near by the Wii to prevent the problem if you absolutely must be a smoking douche.
That’s BS imo. My wii is brand-fucking-new and has been exposed to zero smoke… Yet i get this problem? Wonder how often you have to send it in to be cleaned…
If your Wii is in one of those glass TV stand cases, and someone smokes in another room, and the smoke barely goes in the room, is the Wii good to go? Oh, and also, does anyone know if my Wii was supposed to update to 3.2U when SSBB updated? Because it only gave me 3.1U.

Hey guys, the official response from Nintendo regarding this problem is as follows:
“Super Smash Bros Brawl utilises a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the drive.”
You can get your Wii repaired free of charge here:

…….my Wii still works fine. SocraticHymn, what firmware version do you have?
