Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS Battery Will Last Three To Eight Hours

Nintendo have revealed that the battery life for the Nintendo 3DS will be around three to eight hours.

The console takes 3.5 hours to fully charge and if users dim the back lighting on the console they should expect 3-5 hours of battery life. If you’re playing a standard DS game on the console you should expect 5-8 hours of play time.

  1. that’s not great, but to be expected, i mean, with the 3ds, wifi is always on and searching, and the 3d effect itself probably lessens the battery life quite a bit itself.

    1. Turning off the constant wifi via the Wireless switch on the side of the system might help save battery life. Probably a good idea if you’re currently not playing online.

  2. The battery is only 1300mAh, Nintendo could have easily nearly doubled the playtime buy putting a 2000+mAh battery in the system, cost shouldn’t be an issue they’ve been around for ages. I’m looking forward to the 3DS but silly things like this just don’t make sense.

Guess they’re saving improved battery life as one of the features for the 3DSLite/i/iXL

  3. Wow well I knew it was gonna take lots of battery life so I’m not suprised. Least it won’t take long to charge

  4. This plus the “charge stand” that only charges through infusion, I hope they put the ability to charge via a cable connection while you play, at home.

  5. That actually kinda sucks. Luckily all the flights I go on have plugs. I just hope to god they do the smart thing and include a USB charger. It would suck the life out of your laptop but it would be better than not having one.

Apparently the PSP has 4.5-7 hours, so it looks like the battery life of all portable game consoles is going down, especially when the power goes up, but that was a given.

  6. Wow that’s sad a battery life of 3-8 hours my DS Lite destroys that stupid 3DS’s battery life hahaha mine is at least 7 hours :) that was pretty cheap of nintendo yet again!

  7. 3.5 hours to fully charge

    3-5 hours of battery life

So a 3DS may, under certain circumstances (Probably heavy use wearing the battery down) wind up spending less time playing than charging?

And that cradle does not look easy to use while playing.

  8. Screw the DS, screw the 3D, screw the battery life. Take an iPod touch. Make it three times as thick and a bit longer. Take away the cameras and microphone and add the set up of a gamecube controller. Upgrade the power and battery. Call it a new gameboy and I will be 150% overjoyed.

I just want a portable game system that holds up to standards, has good battery life, and actual buttons.
