Nintendo 3DS: The Nintendo 3DS Won’t Accept Nintendo Point Cards

Nintendo of Japan have revealed that the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS won’t accept Nintendo point cards, so if you’ve got some points left over from a current card you’re unable to transfer them to your Nintendo 3DS.

“Prepaid Nintendo point cards cannot be used with the Nintendo 3DS. Prepaid point cards that can be used with the 3DS will go on sale at a later date.”

  1. So my Club Nintendo Stars aren’t as useful anymore? Damn, I was going to get loads of stars from the 3ds + games and use them to get loads of Nintendo Points for my 3DS virtual console…

  2. I thought Nintendo was ditching the points-based system all together with the 3DS and going with a cash-based system. That would explain why the points cards wouldn’t be usable, but what’s up with the last line that states new 3DS points-based cards will be available at a later date? Again, I thought they were going to a cash system, which I am/was in full support of.

    1. The new 3DS ‘points’ based cards will be in cash values. So they are going with a cash-based system, they said it ages ago, I don’t know why websites keep interpreting this new statement as something different.

        1. Nope, definitely “Nintenbucks” or “iPay” or “MiiDollars” (as in Me Dollars) or “MiiMoney” or “3D$”

Anyway, guess that’s not definitely :D.
          Endless possibilities.

          1. “iPay” sounds more like an Apple product and “3D$” is too like “Micro$oft”…

I was going for a pun on “Nintendogs” and “Pokédollars”, but yes I do wonder what they shall refer 3DS money too…

  4. Why the complaints? They said there will be 3DS point cards later. I don’t see what’s wrong with that. It’ll probably be about the same cost for the same stuff (Equivalent of $5 for GB game, $8 for GBC, if there are GBA games then $10 for those).

  5. Nintendo knows best, right?

From a marketable perspective it make sense to move away from a point system to a cash system; however, I don’t believe they will keep both systems separate for long. I would not be surprised to see a Wii-shop update, once the 3DS’ e-shop launches, shying away from the points system.
