Mario, the famous Italian plumber, has scooped the accolade of best videogame character of all time in the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition.
Not only has Mario been awarded this prestigious accolade but he has also been nominated for an astounding five Bafta awards for his most recent 3D outing, Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I would say 1. Mario 2. Pac-man 3. The paddle in pong or the tetris straight . 4. the space invader. 5. the armgun (metroid, mega man, probably taken from the anime Cobra, but still a great “character”) :)

Nearly 30 years in the business, a majority of the best-selling games of all time, the reason why other great characters exist such as Yoshi and Donkey Kong, who better deserve this award than Mario?
Actually, I believe Donkey Kong came out first and Mario first appeared in a DK game.
