Nintendo: Shigeru Miyamoto Didn’t Think Zelda Would Become So Popular

Legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto told Nintendo president Satoru Iwata that he didn’t expect the immensely popular Legend of Zelda series to become a successful mainstream gaming franchise.

“When I was making The Legend of Zelda, it was very plain. I didn’t think that genre would be seen as something so mainstream.

“I really didn’t expect the response I got when I first made The Legend of Zelda. A world of swords and magic really wasn’t considered mainstream at the time.”

  1. One of the best series of all time. Hope Skyward Sword continue expanding the franchise to other levels.

  2. I really want that figurine in the picture. Also I’m infinitely glad Zelda has continued, can’t freakin’ wait for Skyward Sword.
