Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS May Firmware Update Delayed Until June Includes eShop And Web Browser

Nintendo UK has confirmed today that the long awaited May Nintendo 3DS firmware update has been delayed until June 7th in the United Kingdom and June 6th in the United States.

The Nintendo 3DS firmware update will include the Nintendo 3DS eShop and also the Nintendo 3DS web browser. Nintendo haven’t stated precisely why the firmware update has been delayed, but it’s good to finally get a set date.

Nintendo of Europe has announced that the latest system update for the hand-held Nintendo 3DS™ system will be available in Europe starting June 7. By downloading the free update via a broadband Internet connection, Nintendo 3DS users can enjoy a number of new features and enhancements including an Internet browser and access to the Nintendo eShop, where users can browse and purchase downloadable content.

  1. wicked …looking forward to it:-) hope the 3d video player is included..I have a ton if stereoscopic bids to try

  2. Blimey, hurry up Nintendo. Not good enough in my view, I was looking forward to that update in May. They keep moaning about sales for the console yet nothing is coming out for it. One new game, Steel Diver, is the only one on the shelves in the shops around me since the launch. I’ve gone back to my DSi, playing the games I downloaded on that. I hope this June date isn’t put off!

  3. I must say I’m rather annoyed at the delay on this. The unit was launched in March and there are no wow titles, since then the price has dropped and we’re eventually getting the e-shop that was promised in May in June (after America of course).

  4. I KNEW IT!!! I thought it was strange that Nintendo hadn’t said anything, considering we’re in the second week of May. Could this have anything to do with Nintendo presenting at E3 the next day (June 7th)?? I think companies need to stop putting so much emphasis on E3, and more time into completing their tasks ON TIME!!!!!

  5. Nintendo should have waited until June to release the 3DS. Although I was anticipating the release of it since it was announced, the moment I heard about Zelda, Kid Icarus, and Star Fox being delayed until June, I knew Nintendo should have waited. Especially since the firmware update was also being delayed. I bought the 3DS the day it came out and bought Street Fighter IV, Lego Stat Wars: Clone Wars, Ridge Racer, and Super Monkey Ball. While I have really enjoyed it so far, I would have easily gotten Nintendo’s killer titles other the others I bought. It would have been worth the wait to have come out in June with the killer titles and the firmware update. Nintendo WILL recover from this, especially later this year when Mario Kart 3D and Super Mario 3D come out.

Actually, the fact that their killer titles are coming out in June means that the 3DS should NOT be released in June. It’s a marketing technique. Killer titles help sell units. The console launch is also a good at selling units, since some people will just want the newest console. By spreading these 2 events out, there are usually more console sales than if you put them together. It’s almost always better to spread out big events like console launches and the launches of big name titles in order to get the best sales for the consoles.

    Seriously?

I was eagerly awaiting this to tide me over until Ocarina of Time. Now, I have to wait, essentially, the same amount of time for both.

Why couldn’t they have released at least one good game on launch? It’s now a month and a half later, and I still don’t have any 3D games.

  8. I was really hoping to have access to the eShop before I went on holiday in early June. Disappointed. :(

    1. This pretty much.

…the only good thing that came out of it is that I’m playing the Wii more often now. That’s something.

  9. i know its annoying that it has been put back but to be fair japan was hit by a mega earthquake not that long back. i dont know if it is related, but it did put the pokemon gl site back by a couple of weeks too.

  10. As I’ve clearly stated on many game forums, this is only to be expected of nintendo at this point. They’ve come to a halfassed sluggish crawl for everything they do.

  11. Come on nintendo! This should have all been released on the same day as the system launch! I am personally ticked off that eshop was pushed back….AGAIN! I was all excited b/c it was coming soon!! It better be good nintendo!

  12. Im officially angry nintendo :(!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why didnt they release this update in march!, I have had the 3ds for 3 weeks and have no game, i have been waiting for mario kart but its not gonna come out until end of this year! Im ashamed of nintendo. I bearly go on my 3ds now because theres nothing to do on it :( !

NINTENDO is now the most hated corporation in the entire video-game industry, because of the half-baked Wii, the half-baked DSi, and now both the Wii and the DSi generationally behind, and out of popularity, and now the half-baked 3DS with pointless Mii storage and too-slow firmware support. The APPLE iPad is already rockin’ new games for the future!

  14. So is netflix no longer coming out in the update?

Might just return mine and wait until it can actually do all the cool things it claims before I buy it again.

  15. ARE YOU KIDDING ME, WHAT, WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT, AAAAAAAAAREEEE YOOOOOOOOU KIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDING MMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEE. :(

  16. Wow, nice article.
I find it too bad that some content is for British or Dutch people only. It is kind a lame!

Thanks for the info because I was asking myself where it stayed. (Yeah, my English sucks *ss)
