Industry Gamers were able to score an exclusive interview with a spokesperson for US retail chain Target. Apparently sales for the Nintendo 3DS have risen substantially since Nintendo ushered in the price drop on August 12th. Targets biggest selling game at the moment is the fantastic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
“We’re pleased with the increased sales results from the 3DS price-cut. The top selling game at Target is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.”

This price drop turned out to be great in Nintendo’s favor.
They made more money from 3DS hardware sales the first day than they have made since the price drop. Cause they lose money per console sold.

That report was wrong. It was missing a lot of the costs and even listed the wrong type and amount of RAM. Also, 3DS uses custom parts that they couldn’t find the true costs of.

Although I’ve heard that they lose money on each console, I don’t think anyone knows the exact manufacturing price. But they’ll still make money immediately, since no one buys a console and not a single game. Although I think it may come with Piletwings.
Most game companies loose money from the console itself, they rely on software, that’s why they dropped the price. The mire games they sell the better. Same with all last gen consoles, except the Wii.
That’s true. However, the more consoles sold, the more games sold; and that’s where the money’s at. Nintendo sells the console for $170 and takes an initial hit. But, even if you only bought 5-6 games over the entire console’s lifetime Nintendo and/or 3rd-party developers would still profit. Individuals who buy a 3DS and 2-3 first-party Nintendo games will most likely allow Nintendo to prosper. Not to mention, the more consoles sold, the less chance future games will be cancelled for the 3DS, which is good for everyone.
The recover that money with first party games and the licenses they sell to game makers and other companies that make peripherals for it, aside from Nintendo’s own peripheral. That’s why the more people buy a 3DS, the more stuff they will be able to sell.

I am kind of angry because of the price cut since I bought it earlier but I’m also very glad that people are buying it since if still no one would bought the 3DS they might stop making games for 3DS and that would be even worse. Now I just hope that the 3DS will have a long lifetime.

I can totally believe that. I didn’t even think of getting a 3DS until the price cut. But I got one at Walmart for $170 the day before the price cut… I really wanted the 20 free games.

Today was the second day of my Creative Writing class. We had a pretty cool exercise where we wrote a personal quality that people would not guess just by looking at us. Then everything was put in a list and we had to go around the room asking questions to guess who wrote what. The purpose of it was to get to know each other. One chick I interviewed turned out to be a big Nintendo fan and a crazy Zelda fan. She still hasn’t gotten a 3DS, but she already has the Zelda case. Pretty crazy.
I tried convincing my mom to just get the zelda case so that when I get my 3DS I can add it on xD She gave me the funniest look ever cuz she didnt know why I want to get a cover before the actual 3DS which is sad kinda, but whatever

Hopefully this means now I’ll finally get some Miis in my Mii Plaza now! I’ve had my 3DS for over a month and I only have 3 miis, even though i’ve taken it everywhere with me.
I had mine since launch and had my first mii in a trip to Germany (excluding my little brothers and little sisters mii’s) and my second mii in Florance (Italy). And I come from Holland so wtf.

As a 3ds owner, I’m glad the price drop has had such a dramatic effect. I carried my 3ds with me on a trip into San Francisco the other day hoping I would find some people with street pass. I was there for about six hours and I didn’t meet a single person. Needless to say I was sorely disappointed. I’m looking forward to an increase.
