Nintendo told online gaming publication Industry Gamers at this years Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas that third party developers have already received final Wii U development kits. Nintendo has already stated to various press outlets that it plans to launch the Wii U sometime after this years E3 event which takes place in Los Angeles in June.

Excellent. I fully expect to be blown away at this year’s E3.
hope this means that its coming out right after e3
Probably not, but you never know with Nintendo… so many secrets.
it would be foolish to launch before October, unless a competitor throws their system on the market.
Sweet! Good to know
first!
Fail.
1st
double fail.
phaha XD
You suck.
Oops, forget that. I was replying to above, lol.
Actually, you suck
1) Wonder if they got that second controller working
2) Does this mean a Fall release!? I hope so.
I would be extremely doubtful about that fall release. I would aim for next spring or summer.
So you don’t think it’ll make it this year? Even with the final dev kits done, a promised final model at E3, you don’t think they could get production up for a fall release this year? Seems more likely to me its on track for this year.
I would be pissed if it’s not this year.
It’s on track to be released fairly soon, but I doubt it will be out before 2012 is over for a few reasons:
Developers haven’t had the final kit long enough to make a game, test it, QA it, etc, so all launch titles would be ports.
Nintendo doesn’t have a habit of showing off a console at E3 and then launching it 6 months later. That’s not enough time for marketing, manufacturing, etc.
Just look at the 3DS, for example. Shown off at E3 2010, launched 7-8 months later, in February (japan) and March (everywhere else). The WiiU will take longer to manufacture, and they’ll want to make sure it gets a better launch than the 3DS. Which means better games nad more visibility
What are you talking about? The final version is similar to previous versions, just bugs and problems fixed. Developers with dev kits have been working on the Wii U for a while now. The games would only have to be tweaked a bit
But the WiiU was unveiled at E3 2011 :| It is going to be more than a year when it launches, i doubt that they make a whole lot of changes to what we saw last year and the final version, anyway, developers are not going to wait to a final console to start developing games, that’s why nintendo gives them dev kits almost 2 years before.
Nintendo have already made an announcement at last year’s E3, “Coming to your living room in 2012”. A November release is possible, but we’ll look forward to it.
Fail predictor is fail. It’s obviously releasing this November for the holiday rush. Just like the Gamecube and the Wii, and Skyward Sword.
I’ll bet you $20 it doesn’t release in November
Would September be an ideal release?
How about August for Japan and October-Novemebr for US?
For some reason I have a feeling that, like the Wii and original DS before it, the Wii U will launch first in North America. Then again this could just be my hopes to get it first :)
Now THAT’S a win-win situation!!! I’m sure the Japanese peeps will have each and every Wii U system clear the shelves. Remember the selling of the Nintendo 64? Over 500,000 units have been sold out in less than a day! It may happen again.
Wii U looks like the console version of the Nintendo DS and with the 1080p Zelda HD game on the way in a few years, the whole things going to be epic.
Hell yeah!
This think better be good
Nintendo: ok you guys have less than a year to make a quality game for our launch.
(Nintendo says this dispite the fact that they can’t make a game in a year let alone less than a year.)
And still the games Nintendo makes end up being amazing. GTFO hater.
for you, for others nintendo games seam like rehashes.
Nintendo doesn’t make rehashes… they make franchises with better graphics and control. Suck on THAT Sony fanboy!!!!!
The only people that think that are: Sonyfags, Xbots and pissed of sega fanboys. Your argument is invalid.
Uh, no. Considering almost every review site gives amazing scores to Nintendo core titles. the only people that say they’re rehashes are idiots who think any game with the same character is a rehash, regardless of how much the game play changes.
How many COD games or assassins creed games do we need in a single generation? I don’t see how Nintendo is the only one that continuously releases a certain franchise everyone kinda does it.
You know rehashes only apply to Nintendo and not sony and ms we should all know that by now
If you think Nintendo is rehashing, you should know g*ddamn well that Sony is rehashing games too. Case in point– Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter. Need I say more…?
I’m pretty sure he was being sarcatic to prove a point.
1. “Final Wii U development kit” != “A Wii U development kit”. Developers have probably had some ‘preview’ version of the dev kit for a long time.
2. Not all of the development actually demands the dev kit. Much of the work can be done before a kit is in-hand. In fact, the first wave of games will probably be things that were in the works as long or longer than the Wii U itself.
3. Yes, Nintendo does take its sweet time developing its games. But we end up with quality, so why complain? :)
And OBVIOUSLY, nintendo wasn’t going to develop games during the 2-3 years they’re developing the console?
Doesn’t seem very rational does it?
too bad most cant develop nintendo quality games with more than 3 years
You don’t have to be rude, you know. We let you have fun, so let us have fun too.
Are you retarded? Developers have had Dev kits for over 2 years now dumbass.

So this is kit 6 or 7? Seriously does anyone know?:o
Only the devs
I’m extremely glad that first and third party developers have finally gotten the final Wii U Development Kit. I’m sure they’ll be working extremely hard making games on Nintendo’s new system. Whether it’s from Retro Studios, Epic Games, Valve, Electronic Arts, Namco-Bandai, etc., 2012 will definitely be the very best for Nintendo and fans like us no matter the age, race, or gender. This is the year of Nintendo, Reggie Fils-Aime, and Satoru Iwata!!!!!!!!!
What stores do you guys think would have a midnight launch of the Wii U? I have Best Buy not so far from me, and a GameStop and Wal-Mart right outside my neighborhood.
Wal-mart had a midnight launch of the Wii, and I am sure GameStop preorders will be filled at midnight. Less sure about BB.
Thanks, i’ll be checking each store to see which one does a midnight launch. I would love it if it was GameStop cause then i can ad a TON of points to my PowerUpRewards PRO card :)
*add
So apart from Ubisoft, what other third party devs do you think we’ll get or would you like to see exclusives from?
I wouldn’t mind a Zack and Wiki sequel myself.
And a final dev kit means the Wii U design is more or less locked now, so they’ve got about 4 and a half months to iron out any kinks before their promised unveiling of the final form at E3.
The 2 or 3 developers that we know so far are Rocksteady for Batman: Arkham City (new and exclusive play mechanics) from WB Games, EA/Tiburon for Madden NFL 13 (exclusive play call using the uPad), and Vigil Games’ Darksiders 2 (controls to be announced) from THQ. And I would DEFINITELY want to see a new Retro Studios game from Nintendo.
Now that the developers have the final Dev Kit, I’m sure they’ll sort everything out and fix everything up in time for presenting them at E3. Thanks for asking that question to us.
Think was Mike S that said it would be cool if they put Arkham Asylum along with Arkham City, but I think this would also be cool with the first games of Darksiders and The Darkness as well as Resi 5 with Resi 6. I think if Nintendo came to some arrangement for these it would be great.
I have the Asylum, Darkness and Darksiders, but I’m sure those who don’t would be more keen to pick the sequels up if they could play the first part of the story as well.
The PS3 versions of Assassins Creed Revelations and Bioshock Infinite came with their respective first games and since Wii U discs are supposedly the same capacity as a blu Ray, this could be possible
Just one problem, there isn’t an official announcement of Resident Evil 6 coming to the Wii U yet. Other than that, it would be great if all those games were launch titles to give Nintendo fans a shot at the games that used to be exclusive to the PS3 and 360 :) But after that, no more ports of older games.
Do you think Capcom will be adding exclusive features for the Wii U version? If so, I would love to see that to happen!
Zack and Wiki would be great for Wii U.
I loved the first one. (although I still haven’t bothered to finish it :P)
The tablet could be used as a telescope to look for hidden items to solve puzzles, as they are pirates after all.

They’re on the final stretch to E3. Now it’s just to iron out the kinks.
Anybody think that Nintendo changed the controls layout or anything?
I think they’ve only changed the hardware. Who knows…
The could always add a hard drive and also have one with flash memory that would be cheaper.
I’m still holding out hope that it makes pancakes.
Lol yeah, me too :)
I hope they launch the wiiu in more than one color.
IM A FAGOT GUIZE I WATCH GAY PORN
Piss off troll!
??????????
Ur gay (NOT in an offensive way as you are gay and admitted it)
Also STOP Spamming!!
You know what would make a great launch title for the Wii U? If Retro Studios made Metroid Dread. It would be an amazing way to bring side-scrolling Metroid games back to home consoles, not to mention the HD graphics would be incredible with. It could be made like Donkey Kong Country Returns in 2.5D. I wasn’t even 1 when Super Metroid came out on the SNES so i would love the chance to play a brand new Metroid side scroller on a console rather than a handheld. Also, as an added bonus they could make some kind of Anniversary collector’s edition that would come with an HD reboot of Metroid Prime. So, what do you guys think? A brand new game plus a beautiful High Definition remake of Metroid Prime for the 10th Anniversary.
I was hoping for a Metroid launch title as well. Whether it be Metroid Prime 4 (which would be highly unlikely) or something like Metroid Dread. Anyways, Metroid is an under-appreciated series that I hope will shine on Wii U by showing off what the system can do at launch.
Awesome. Now lets see more developers bring more games to Wii U. Oh and can we finally see some Wii U game videos?
By the time it’s presented for the first time at E3 and on the web, there is a 100.5% possibility.
I hope animal crossing comes to the wii u. It would be awesome to be able to connect my 3ds ac and my wii u ac some how.
Ah, Animal Crossing.
The game that is slowly becoming farmville.
Hang on… How can companies have final Wii U development kits if another article on this site points out the controller isn’t final? Couldn’t this cause a few problems somewhere down the line?
If that’s the case, whoever the manufacturer will be (presumably Foxxcon) should be beginning production soon.
I WANT PIKMIN 3 TO BE THE RELEASE TITLE!!!!!!!
