A source apparently close to online gaming site Max Console has informed the publication what to expect from the next Nintendo 3DS firmware update which is known as 3.0.0-7x. Nintendo themselves haven’t announced the firmware update, so this is all just speculation and rumour. Here’s what the source claims will be in the next 3DS update:
- Ability to access Nintendo eShop account from other internet enabled devices including computers and smartphones.
- This system update will allow users to take pictures of QR codes with the 3DS from the other device’s screen to redeem purchased content.
- This update will add the application “Nintendo Network” to the 3DS.
- Ability to update physical Nintendo 3DS Games via Nintendo Shop (DLC feature).
- A “Game Preview” Mode for the Nintendo 3DS system Nintendo Shop.
- Enhances the speed of the handheld.
- Increases the system security with automatic security updates.
- Nintendo Zone will be automatically added to European 3DS owners.

What they should do is let you access the Home Menu without closing a DS Game. I dont get why that only works with 3DS ones.
The game needs to support multi tasking too and as there was no such feature on any of the DS models, this would be unlikely nigh on impossible.
How exactly would the first one be useful? And shouldn’t they give us actual eShop accounts to access first?

Most of that stuff had already been confirmed to be in the next update after the December one. It was announced by Mr. Iwata in November I think. I don’t see why everyone is either surprised to see this or calling it fake when the man himself confirmed it a while ago, including the connection to the eShop from other Internet-enabled devices. It’s not like you’re going to play games on PC and smartphones. You’ll simply be able to purchase the eShop content and then download it later with your 3DS.
The Nintendo Network “app” must be simply turning on the system and what it includes like DLC.

Yes. Mario Kart 7 NEEDS DLC. It’s not the type of game that usually get a sequel on the same system. And in all honesty, it doesn’t need one. DLC is the best way to prolong it’s life. Add new courses, new character, new kart customization options.
