New Super Mario Bros 2 has once again reclaimed the top spot in the Japanese software charts comfortably selling 143,321 units. The total number of Nintendo related titles in the Japanese top ten software charts is eight. The Nintendo 3DS thrashed the competition this week selling 102,646 units. The handheld’s closet competitor was Wii which sold 16,145.

RED TRUTH! Sony needs to make their consoles affordable for more customers otherwise they will slowly dig their own grave. This is one of the main things that held PS3 back and that is going to keep making the PS vita sell very badly. If the Vita drops it’s price from 300$ to 250 by including the memory stick more people will buy it.
Actually developers probably aren’t developing for the Vita because they have no bloody idea what to do with it. The Vita is a superb piece of technology and I respect it even as a Nintendo fan, however it was too much innovation too quickly. There was no easing gap between it and the PSP, unlike, say, the DS and the 3DS, where the only major difference was the Circle Pad and the 3D.
The Vita introduced a gyroscope, a touchscreen, a touchpad, and a second analog stick, and also boasts incredible power for a handheld, and developers are all sitting around going “Well that’s awesome… what the hell do we do with it?” because there has been no chance to experiment with the new features. Give it a year and support will go up, but it won’t be until developers have had a proper chance to work out the best ways to use every new aspect of the device.

To throw an upgrade of technology like that to your established developers is too much. Developing games is hard, developing games for new platforms is harder because you have new tech to take advantage of and you want/have to do it in the best way you can. This much new tech at once and you either end up with a cram-fest of new features that don’t work properly (like the stupid party games that flurried onto the Wii) or a slow trickle of games that test each aspect of the new console before properly dealing with the whole thing in a good way… and in a way it’s good things have gone with the latter because it means developers are actually thinking about how to employ good gameplay with the new features instead of just tacking them all on.
I’d like to see you come up with a game that doesn’t get panned by critics for not living up to the Vita’s potential and also doesn’t overdo it with the new features. It isn’t easy.

Also more on topic, even though it’s similar, New Super Mario Bros. sells and 2 will probably do very well when it launches in NA. MW3 wasn’t much different than MW2, (but in my opinion I think it sucked, I like MW2) but it sold the most copies at launch.
