The recently announced Zelda game for Nintendo 3DS, which takes place in the world of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, has been in the works for over a year. Series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that Nintendo developers have been thinking about the concept of restructuring a 2D Zelda into 3D since 2011. The new Zelda game is scheduled to launch this holiday season.

    1. Ya i hear you…if its the same world with the same temples i will be so mad, or if they choose the same weapons and equipment… I think a LTTP had the best weapon/equipment on all zelda’s but they can add some more, maybe introduce more upgrades like a steel hammer?

      1. glad I’m not the only one. a sequel doesn’t mean it has to be identical. it can be in the same world but aside from that everything else should be different. judging from the demo with the same hammer and same temple boss, I’m worried.

        1. yeah because, the hammer was used in the same way as alttp… are you really “worrying about that?” c’mon, is the only Zelda that’s is almost same to another one is Twilight Princess, being only a OverGlorified Ocarina Of TIme, all the Zeldas are Different even beign similar, Ocarina to Majoras, Wind Waker to Twilight, Skyward to ANY OTHER but way i’m pretty sure you didn’t like Skyward because “it doesn’t feel like a Zelda” so stop worrying about this

      2. may be this time its going to be exactly like its title, a link to the past 2, being a game where at some point you go back in time an play through the original game, an maybe thats why the dungeon shown had the same elements, an boss, an maybe at some point you go back to the future where its different, so kinda like 2 games, one half in the past, being the first link to the past, but with the updated 3d visuals, an then a future version of the map, where the temples an everything is altered, an you have to travel back an forth, that would be pretty cool, it would defo be a disappointment if it was just the old game remade, some how i doubt that!!

    1. I’m thinking the bottom screen is gonna be the same as the one used in OoT 3D (item switching, map, and inventory).

  1. Why do people want it to be so different? It is a sequel after all- not a remake. It’ll have new redesigned temples and a new story line obviously. I’m just glad we can revisit the LttP world. That game was a masterpiece after all.

    1. I wouldn’t have even minded a straight-up remake! This is especially hypocritical considering the same people saying it’s stupid if the world is similar to LttP wanted a full out MM remake…

      1. Yes, but a remake has a good reason to be similar to the game it’s remaking. Since we’re getting a sequel those who wanted a remake want it to be different. Just because they wanted a remake does not mean we should be okay if this game ends up being too similar to LTTP. Nintendo said it’s going to be a continuation of that game so we expect it to have a lot of new elements.

  2. And what a sweet recipe it was. A Link To The Past is my favorite 2D Zelda game. It’s AWESOME! It was also my very first Zelda game.

      1. Well… it’s kind of true. It doesn’t look like they’re exactly pushing the 3DS to it’s limit here.

      1. it just have felt that way after windwaker, they need to do something outside the roots again like they did with mm and windwaker. maybe like they said that if it wont be linear in the next zelda game. tp felt dull for a zelda but ss, like it didnt do anything special, i used to love zelda but i really am getting bored of it after tp and ss

      2. I can’t remember liking any Zelda game from Wind Waker/Minish Cap to…those are the last good ones. TP does belong in the toilet, as “TP” implies, the DS games are garbage, and Suckward Sword is so linear it puts me to sleep. I know the Zelda fanbase believes every game is holy, and immune to mediocrity, but it’s true.

        1. well i enjoyed both very much.. the press enjoyed them very much.. and millions of players enjoyed them very much

so maybe the problem lies with you rather than the zelda franchise

          1. well i dont want the same boring adventure the same time, even 3d marios are more exciting, if you see about half of hardcore fans cant even complete skyward sward or like it because it sucked and if it keeps being dull and not being any different style. why do you think the developers are trying to change it up by letting you do the levels in non linear bullshit easy brainless shit. also fi is fucking annoying and interrupts you every 5 minutes. out of any franchise nintendo has that is getting dull besides new, is zelda. my first zelda game was oot, so you cant say im just some old bastard

            1. “if you see about half of hardcore fans cant even complete skyward sward or like it because it sucked”

do you have any sources for that? because to me that looks like a lot of made up baloney

regarding fi i agree she was annoying.. and they could have done away with those ballet sessions of hers.. quite irritating
but your other complaints.. zelda has always been pretty linear.. you could never really choose where to go next in order to advance the story.. you received a new item and with that item you could finish the next dungeon

the only thing non linear was the exploration in between dungeons.. but that was the same with skyward sword
and SS wasn’t easy either.. far from it

they’ve always been doing something new or different with every zelda title so far.. just like they’ve been doing with their mario titles
making a non linear game is just their next iteration of it

“my first zelda game was oot, so you cant say im just some old bastard”

i don’t know can i? why would i? my first zelda game was the actual very first the legend of zelda title.. i don’t see what kind of difference that makes tho

other than the move to 3d zelda has pretty much stayed true to itself and, annoying purple ghost thingies that live in your sword put aside, still plays like it did back then

          2. Or maybe it’s just because they’ve been getting repetitive and some people have begun to notice it. As standalone games they’re all really fun but when compared to previous entries you realize that they aren’t really trying anything new or taking risks. I think it has just become a common idea that every Zelda game is amazing, even if in reality it’s not. The problem doesn’t lie with him, because there are a lot of people who agree that TP and SS weren’t that original.

            1. how was WW more original than SS for example? how was it more original than OOT? how is exploration with a horse in OOT that much different from exploration with a ship in WW?
zelda has never really been trying to take risks.. the nintendo EADs always hit the nerve of what people wanted to play and they knew that

        2. Whene people say that Minish crap is one of the best zeldas, I stop listening.
I barely liked it, it didn’t have the Zelda magic

        3. The DS games truly were shitty. And I didn’t think Minish Cap was all that good. Wind Waker was the last truly breath taking Zelda game. I thought Skyward Sword was a pretty good game (I still need to beat it, though) so that was a step in the right direction. And Twilight Princess… it was less than average. It was just so overhyped and all that hype made for a massive let down. It’s ironic, too, since a username that I use constantly, happens to be a reference to that game.

      3. The fact that they’re basically just recycling what made the games great with the new ones is why they feel dull lately.

        1. seriously nintendo needs to change it again take some risks, its sucks to see something that was so good, turning to shit and i bet most people just cant accept it that defend it, overhyped crappy boring same old but doing worse games

  3. They said that they were thinking about this in 2011, so it isn’t news to me.
But they also said that they were making a new Zelda to the 3ds and that they started to make it at the same time as Skyward sword.
Does that mean that we are getting 2 new 3ds zeldas?

  4. I could have sworn that this is a 2.5D Zelda game……I wish that da bosses ain’t easy that wuz piss me off if a lil kid that never played a Zelda game and are not so good with puzzles can beat this game.and if they do I wish. dey had like a classic mode ( from da begaining hard mode)and I wish that it wuz rewarding and had a lot if bonus things that easy easy mode didn’t have like side quest new and upgraded weapons new enemies bonus story

  5. I really don’t understand all the hate and negativity that is going towards this game. Obviously it’s going to be of high quality since it is a Zelda game that is confirmed to have been in development for some time. It’s a direct sequel to one of the most celebrated Zeldas of all time. Also I have been wanting (what I referred to as New Legend of Zelda much like New Super Mario Bros.) a Zelda that played like The Legend of Zelda and Link to the Past. I loved Skyward Sword a lot but I’ve been craving the classic gameplay for quite a while. Don’t worry Zelda fans! Zelda on Wii U will satisfy your craving for a more “Ocarina of Time style” gameplay.

  6. This is one of the only good news on the horizon that we know of. I would really like to know about the future of Metroid or Donkey Kong. I would also like some new franchise for Wii U that can compete with Infamous or God of War

  7. What I’m really worried about is the world map is going to be the same way as the first game, like not a canon from the first, because it wouldn’t feel like a full sequel if it’s not going to be like a take place after first game thing. If it’s a sequel, I hope some areas would be very different and maybe have new areas. A couple of bushes and tree stumps being just moved a little doesn’t count that much too me. xD

Anyway is this game going to come out this year? Because I thought I saw “2014” somewhere on one of the trailers.
