Reggie Says 2DS Gives Children Under Seven The Opportunity To Play 3DS Games

nintendo_2dsNintendo’s new 2DS offers children a unique experience to play 3DS games without their parents worrying that the 3D is harmful or a strain on their child’s eyes – that’s what Nintendo of America’s COO Reggie Fils-Aime says in support of their latest product. When Nintendo launched the 3DS originally, it wasn’t recommended that children under seven should play in 3D. Although the slider can be turned on and off, it was still a precaution for parents. In an interview with IGN, Reggie says the new 2DS breaks those barriers and will finally allow five and six-year-olds the ability to experience all the 3DS games they wish.

“We’re always thinking about what we can do that’s new, unique, different, and brings more people into this category that we love. And so with the Nintendo 3DS, we were clear to parents that, ‘hey, we recommend that your children be seven and older to utilize this device.’ So clearly that creates an opportunity for five-year-olds, six-year-olds, that first-time handheld gaming consumer.”

“We’ve always been thinking about, ‘how do we approach that as one target?’ And that certainly helped spur the idea of the Nintendo 2DS. Let’s have the consumer have access to all of these great games – Mario Kart 7, Animal Crossing – but do it in a 2D capability with a device that has a dramatically lower price point. That’s just an example of how we’re always thinking about, ‘how do we get more people playing games? How do we get more people playing Nintendo games?’”

        was that really that hard

you express your inability to read AS THO ITS MY FAULT

GOTA BE A AMERICAN GOTA BE

          1. All he said was you could get a Wii U windwaker bundle and a Nintendo 2DS with some games for the same price as the PS4 on its release date. Whether or not you can actually get all that, that’s debatable, but that’s what the dumbass said.

  2. cannot wait to get my wiiu my 2DS my windwaker my sonic lost worlds my mario land my cod ghosts my wii play u with wii remote plus

a gold watch and a silver chain AND STILL HAVE CHANGE FROM THE RETAIL PRICE OF A XBONE

    LOL

  3. Even though they wouldn’t shut up about how there’s an option to disable 3D on the 3DS for children under 7… Hmmm…

    1. The option here is the cheaper price both if it can or not turn the 3d on or off. What a bad time for the Sony and Microsoft refugees to join Nintendo.

        1. I admit I hated the thing the first time I saw it but when I saw how it looks on someone hands it started to grow on me and then the price closet the deal.

          1. I guess…

But non the less great for the Nintendolings…

I myself will upgrade to the 3DS XL when Pokemon Y comes out…

            1. I want me a 3DS myself but at $130 I can get my pokemon for even cheaper. Maybe i’ll go to best buy and get like 5 of them 2DS on credit for all my nieces and nephews.

              1. I love the design, it’s like the 3DS and the GameBoy had a child! I so want to get one, since the 3D on the 3DS gives me headaches and I don’t like the XL’s design. Also, better triggers and NO HINGE AT ALL. Hinges suck! They always break.

  4. Reggie, way to give a legitimate excuse to duck away from the real reason you released the 2DS which is that many people found that it gave them headaches…

  5. It is clearly for children: it does not fold because it goes in your backpack, not your pocket. This is why it is shaped like a binder. This is a wonderful thing for kids.

It is also, however, next year’s portable Smash Bros, for gamers who claim to hate Nintendo but salivate over Smash, in a ‘gimmickless’ $150 package.

    Nintendo has won already.

    1. Mainly, it’s sturdy. Like looks pretty sturdy. I’ve seen countless cases of kids just snapping DS hinges and breaking it in half.

  6. Good business strategy by nintendo. It releases around the same time as pokemon x and y gives a cheap alternative for all the fans to pick it up … Plus for parents to buy a gaming device for children 100$ is a pretty good deal :)

  7. Random Nintendo employee:

”Hey guys! Let’s make a retarded version of the 3DS, which will be almost as big as the Wii U Gamepad so it’s harder to carry around! But it will still have a small screen like the original 3DS, and no 3D visuals! It will also have a mono sound system, and a lower battery life! Then we will tell the consumers it’s a console for kids because of the non-3D stuff, even if you could block the usage of 3D with Parental Controls on the original 3DS and 3DSXL!”

Iwata: ”Oh my god you’re a genius!”

Seriously guys, go get a friggin 3DSXL. This is bullcrap. Not even worth 120$.

    1. comadore plus 4 BET U DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT IS YOUNG FAGGOTS

its clearly tiny and is clearly small in a petit female news readsers hands

as big as a wiiu gamepad ACTUALLY YOU JUST MADE YOURSELF LOOK LIKE THE SONY FODDER U REALLY ARE

JUST BECAUSE A CLOSE UP PIC LOOKS BIG (LIKE PORN ASS AND COCK PICKS UP CLOSE)

      DOESNT REFLECT ACTUAL SIZE MORON

THE THING IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF A OPEN 3DS RETARD

      1. Well, actually I’m a Nintendo fan and I don’t even like SONY. There wasn’t a single Nintendo console I didn’t like until this thing was announced.

Seriously, this 2DS thing is dumb. And Nintendo is acting dumb trying to sell it by telling it’s for kids because it’s not 3D. Im happy with my 3DSXL. If you want to play Super Mario 3D Land in 2D, then buy it. I’m not that poor and desperate to buy the non-3D version of the 3DS which has lower battery life, mono sound system, and is harder to carry around.

  8. comadore plus 4 BET U DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT IS YOUNG FAGGOTS

wait a second I CAN BUY WIIU AND SOME GAMES ,2DS AND SOME GAMES

AND STILL HAVE MONEY LEFT OVER FOR A 3DS XL FROM THE PRICE OF A XBOX ONE

LOL THERES TWO TWIN COMPANYS ABOUT TO RELEASE IDENTICAL DEVICES THAT BOTH GET THERE FACES FARTED ON MY KITTLE OLD NINTENDO

    GOTA LOVE THE SHEER STUPIDITY

  9. amstrad greenscreen HD

wii u with ether nintendo-land or windwaker and a 2DS for the same price as ps4 and no games

    sony just got trolled ANALLY

  10. I don’t think it’s recommended for older people to view the 3D either. It just KILLS my eyes after a few minutes. I felt sick most of the night the other night because of playing Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and looking at the 3D too many times.

And btw, this post proved that the 2DS was made just for kids. But I’ll still get one for my collection. I’m not gonna pass it up like I did the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Micro.

  11. Children under 7 can barely play games without breaking the fucking thing. You should’a seen my old Game Boy color, somehow it still works but it looked like shit until I fixed it up.

  12. yeah that’s the reason. it’s not because they want more money by making more iteration of the 3ds family. ah nintendo.

  13. So why are people complaining over something they won’t buy? It is bad having options? I thought the 2DS was pointless until I read everything it has to offer, then I realize it is meant for certain people. If you have a 3DS or XL already, why are you complaining over this?

  14. A company’s goal is to make money and stay afloat. Whether you like their business decisions or not, you have to respect their procedures. No one is forcing anyone buy anyone’s products. Only that person makes the decision whether or not to buy from a company and that person is responsible for his or her money spent, not the company(s).
