Nintendo Has Apparently Lost Over 76% Of Its Value Over The Last Five Years

newsupermariobroswii4

Stock investment site The Motley Fool is reporting that Nintendo has apparently lost over 76% of its value over the last five years. The company peaked in 2007 with a market cap near $85 billion. The publication claims that it could be the beginning of the end for the once iconic video game as Apple looks to enter the video game market with iOS 7 and give consumers the ability to use third-party controllers with the iPhone and iPad.

    1. someone with a brain.

I wonder when they’ll put up their article about Sony/Microsoft looking money constantly and having to fire and sell off assets just to pay debts.

    2. No, this is called denial.

Nintendo did great with the concept and philosophy behind Wii and DS, and then screwed up big with 3DS and Wii U. It’s not 3DS and Wii U that will kill them, it’s their line of thought

                  1. Simple Sony makes games and it losing more money than they can make and Microsoft investors are angry at the Xbox division earnings. Is realy relevant to the topic of who is doin worst.

                    1. Like I said, it’s not a war, it’s not about who’s doing worse or who’s the last one standing.

Sony and Microsoft are not game companies, they screw their games, they don’t go bankrupt, but Nintendo loses value

Sony and Microsoft are completly irrelevant to Nintendo’s situation. It’s screwed only because it’s making bad decision after bad decision.

                  2. Are you stupid or just born like that? Is fair to say that Nintendo is failing because is not doing what Sony and Microsoft are doing but when does 2 are doing worst they can’t be compared? Seriously man go to school it is never late to get an education.

                    1. Comparing companies can’t tell you anything about their health. Nintendo is screwed because of their bad decision, period. There’s no other company involved in this statement.

                  3. It’s related because Sony and Microsoft have been in far worse financial straits and yet you’re acting like you actually believe that Nintendo can’t possibly pull out of their slump like Sony and Micro have pulled out of theirs.

Nintendo is no more screwed than Sony or Microsoft are at this point.
They’ve all made come-backs before, and they definitely will again.
The 3DS is far from a failure and the Wii U is going through new-console-growing-pains just like the Wii, PS3, and 360 did during their first year or so of life.

You’ve really got to stop buying into all the doom&gloom hype then passing off evidence to the contrary as petty denial or damage control.
That’s little more than the attitude of a hater-on-the-band-wagon.

                    1. Sony and Microsoft don’t matter, wake up for the real world. A company will not escape bankrupt because their competitors look worse, that’s fanboy stuff.

Nintendo is the only videogame company in the market, all others produce tons of other products and can stay in the market as long as they want too. If they go bankrupt, sure as hell ain’t because of their videogame business.

Nintendo has posted its first loss in 30 years, followed by another one, their stocks are incredibly low, their value have shattered in the last 5 years, this is all evidence that things look bad, not fanboy stuff, pure numbers.

                    2. Abso-fucking-lutely!!!

I’m still scratching my head as to why this website is publishing so much doom and gloom… I like my news factual and not some paid opinion from rival companies (seriously, it must be sponsored otherwise they wouldn’t bother). This website is counterproductive and pretty fucking depressing tbh. Wy not stick to he facts and stop giving the Sony/MS fanboys more fodder?!

              1. Nintendo’s “situation” is that they have 10 billion dollars cash in the bank in which they could never make another dime and LOSE 257 million dollars a year and not go broke until 2075. And then they could sell off all of their franchises for billions of dollars more and still not go bankrupt.

The Wii U sold 3.06 million in 45 days when games were there. People have shown that even with the poor advertising it had that if games are there, people will buy the Wii U. Nintendo will have Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Sonic: Lost World, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Wonderful 101, and Windwaker HD all on store shelves this holiday season. Not to mention a few AAA 3rd party mulitplats like Watch Dogs, Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin’s Creed IV, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Call Of Duty: Ghosts. And those are just the titles we know about.

Couple that with a $50 price drop and a Wii U Deluxe bundle with WIndwaker HD included.

The 3DS is already the fasted-selling console of all time and number one selling console worldwide. Now you’ll have the Nintendo 2DS for $129.99 with Pok’e’mon X and Y available at the same time.

Keep in mind that Nintendo traditionally does well every holiday season no matter if they have big titles or not. I’ve worked in retail for 20 years. I’ve seen it myself.

There are plenty of faults Nintendo has and they have been pointed out ad-nausem. The biggest gripe I had with them is that for a good while it seemed like they literally had no idea on what they were doing. However, when Nintendo has a plan of action there is, was, and never will be anyone better at executing it which is why after 40 years Nintendo is still successful.

Even with the colossal disaster 2013 has been with the Wii U, they literally can turn that around in 3 months. If Nintendo comes out of this holiday season selling less than they did last holiday season, then I would say that the Wii U is in real trouble. However as I stated eariler, Nintendo basically has money to burn. The Wii U can fail harder than the Atari Jaguar and it still wouldn’t matter. Even with the woes of the Wii U Nintendo is making a profit again just based on the 3DS sales alone. BEFORE Pok’e’mon X and Y and price drop. ANd then next year you got hydrogen bombs dropping like Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, Project X, and Mario Kart 8. Again, just what we know about.

So there you have Nintendo’s situation. They should have waited until this year to release the Wii U. I will always maintain that the Wii U was released prematurely. Even with all their mistakes they are in a great position right now. 3rd parties have lost their bargaining chip because Nintendo survived the drought and now that they have the 1st-party titles they don’t NEED 3rd party support for the Wii U to sell.

I still think Iwata needs to go, but right now you have to give credit where it is due. I know that people feel the need to bash Nintendo because they think it makes them look cool because it’s trendy and everything. However that ship has sailed. At this point bashing Nintendo just magnifies stupidity, self-righteousness, immaturity, ignorance, and just plain hatred.

I’m not saying that the Wii U is gonna win the 8th-gen, but the window of failure for the Wii U has gotten very small and if the Wii U sells as much or more than it did last holiday season it will be closed. Count on it.

                1. Here’s Nintendo situation: they have money, mistakes cost money, stay in denial trying to fix your mistakes cost a lot more money. 3DS and Wii U are mistakes.

Nintendo changed presidents, Satoru Iwata brought us DS and Wii, which were great, but now he brought 3DS and Wii U, which were mistakes, and he has no idea how to solve this.

Unless Satoru Iwata leaves his spot as president, Nintendo will keep throwing money away. Why? It’s called a Death Spiral, it’s been documented by Clayton M. Christensen.

You expected to sell an amount, let’s say 10, if you manage to sell 10, next time investors will want 11, and will only sell their stocks to people expecting it to sell 12. When you don’t sell 10, 11, 12, you have what he calls a “growth-cap”. Let’s say you expected to sell 21, investors expected 22 and you only sold 20, then what happens?

Investors will ask: “How do you expect to reach 23 next time?”, and now you’re screwed, it’s a trap that almost no CEO manage to escape. If you say you can’t, your investors will be pissed, your stocks will fall, you’ll look incompetent and they’ll demand a new president.

And then comes the fourth step of the Death Spiral. Since you invested a certain amount of money to sell a certain amount of products, even though you didn’t make that money back, you tell investors: “we didn’t invest enough. We’ll invest more”.

You think this hasn’t happened before? That biger companies than Nintendo have never fallen because of this? They either change their attitude or they will die

                  1. wow… everything xpander just said went straight over your head…. and how is the 3DS a mistake!?
its the best selling portable console!

                    1. No, it’s not. Portable gaming have seen their worst sales since 2004, 3DS is no longer outselling DS on the same time period, and that’s why Nintendo doesn’t talk about this. The whole “3DS is selling best than DS”, has always been comparing it against the slow DS start, it was a marketing trick.

                  2. I certainly hope I can make a mistake like the 3DS someday. Those mistake dollars would look very nice in my bank account. If Nintendo was in denial about the 3DS then it would still have a small scree, no circle pad attachment, no price drops, and no 2DS version. It’s clear Nintendo has done exactly what people asked them to do which is proof that at least in this case they are not in denial. The only denial I see here is your acceptance of the facts that Nintendo proved that they can make errors and fix them. What you are saying about the 3DS makes absolutely no sense unless you are deliberately ignoring the facts for arguments sake because you WANT to believe the contrary. If that is the case say so please because I would have no further interest talking to you. The 3DS is successful now. It is a FACT. Fastest-selling console ever. On pace to out sell the original DS which is the best-selling console ever. The fact that Nintendo is making less money than they could have because of how they botched the 3DS launch does not erase the fact that in spite of that the 3DS is the number one selling console worldwide. Sony should be thanking God that Nintendo screwed up the 3DS launch. At least with that the Vita is somewhat relevant.

Bigger companies have fallen yes, but not often smarter companies. Size doesn’t matter. The biggest guy doesn’t always win the fight. The toughest guy doesn’t always win. The smartest usually wins the battle. If Nintendo wasn’t smart they wouldn’t still be here. Simple as that.

As I stated before, the facts show that Nintendo always does well in the holiday season without or without major titles. Why else do you think investors have stayed put with Nintendo despite anemic Wii U sales? Well for one as I stated earlier the 3DS is selling like hotcakes and even with both it and the Wii U selling at a loss Nintendo is making a profit, and investors know that they will make hay as usual during the holidays.

Iwata needs to go but Nintendo isn’t going anywhere no matter how dilapidated your point of view is on the subject. You want to ignore the positive and focus on the negative rather than look at the big picture. Iwata can be fired tomorrow and they’d go on just fine. If he stays they wil go on just fine. The only problem Nintendo has is that it has become more of a niche company under Iwata in which they only focus on plat-formers and party games rather than having the diverse palette of genres they had as recent as the GameCube era. However, if people are coming out in droves to buy those games, why stop? People complain about COD being cut and paste and yet they are first in line to buy it every single time. People complain about Madden not being any different year to year and yet people make sure they purchase it every year and swear that it’s different than last year. Cut and paste is a part of video game life. Deal with it and move on. The only company that has the guts to try new things is Nintendo and they get ridiculed for it. Face it, the worst is over for the Wii U. I’ve proven my point here. I don’t need to say anything else. You can have the last word.

                    1. 3DS is not a success and will not outsell the DS. It only outsold it in the beginning because it moved all Tier 1 consumers quickly with the price drop to fix their mistakes. However, Tier 1 consumers are limited, it means they won’t be there in the long run and 3DS numbers are already falling because of that.

3DS is no longer outselling the DS “in the same time period”, that was a marketing trick by comparing 3DS sales with DS slow start, common for a disruptive product. Trying to compare the second and third years of DS vs 3DS would show a beating.

                    2. “Last year, Sony had losses with PSP and PS3, but not with PS Vita, it brought money in. You have a business to have profit, not to have sales.”

This is all a complete lie. The PS3 has been profitable for a few years (but is still a loss as a project as a whole), and the PSP is pure profit at this point.

                  3. Ok Michael patcher , I have question for you , if you think that the 3ds is a failure, can you give us your supreme opinion on the vita and its sales??

                    1. It’s making a profit, did you know that? Vita is making more money for Sony than 3DS is for Nintendo, because they didn’t cut the price to drive sales, so they have profit.

Last year, Sony had losses with PSP and PS3, but not with PS Vita, it brought money in. You have a business to have profit, not to have sales.

During GameCube era, Nintendo made more money with their console than Sony did with the PS2, and then Sony blew all that money on the first years of PS3. Being the leader in the market is a war not worth fighting for the sake of fanboys.

        1. No, Yen actually helped Nintendo not to post a worse financial result this last year. They had an operational loss, which means they lost money on their business, but made an extra profit on exchange rates because of the Yen.

      1. Another Sonysoft fantard who doesn’t get that 3DS is outselling all other consoles of this generation COMBINED (Including Wii U) and that the closest selling console is losing 1 unit to 40 to 3DS.
So much for a screw up.
Nintendo owns the biggest names of this industry, and with the addition of series that have been going practically exclusive for a while now like Monster Hunter and Shin Megami Tensei, the company only needs to put out a constant stream of exclusives for Wii U, like they do for 3DS, and the problem is solved.
I’m getting really sick of people saying Wii U is going to fail because it lacks games that are already in other 4 or 5 consoles, guess what, the reality of the market is that a console is not sold on what it can do equally to the others, that is a diminishment of the market, no, a console is sold on what differentiates it.
Sony and Microsoft have lost so much money and credibility on their gaming divisions that they’ve had to sell assets and inject money and resources from other divisions into them, and there are several motives to that just like there are to Nintendo’s losses, but you won’t state that, because that would be detrimental.

        1. This is not a war, sucsess is not measured by comparison. 3DS will only be a success if it outsells the DS, Satoru Iwata said it himself

Nintendo exclusives have never saved a platform, Nintendo 64 and GameCube failed miserably even though they had names like Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Metroid Prime

          1. “3DS will only be a success if it outsells the DS, Satoru Iwata said it himself”

            Uhh…. proof?

    1. This kinda applies on many levels. Troll comments, Nintendo trying to keep console gaming alive in a bit-size-software era (yes, Micro and Sony will have the same problems, but I think Nintendo will be the most likely to figure out how to weather the storm if anyone can)

      1. Nintendo has everything in their favor to dispell this situation, and anyone who believes we’re gonna give up out 3DS’ and Vitas for a damn iPhone is mentally challenged at best.

        1. Which one?

Anyway, they’re well-conceived and price-valued. I’d never invest my money in anything else, though.

    1. I won’t either. The iPod touch 4S was my last apple product. I now have a Microsoft Windows 8 smartphone, and LOVE IT. It’s not a gaming device, but is great for practical and business tasks.

My 3DS is My gaming platform of choice.

      1. I got a HTC Sense android phone. I think it’s really good, especially the customization options for the home screen.
I don’t use it for gaming though. I don’t really like phone games.

        1. Same. I got Windows 8 because I wanted the challenge of figuring out something few have tried yet. Their small app store really has not been a problem for me.

      2. i get what the analysts are trying to say but i dont think that they’re gonna have anything to say after the fiscal year. Nintendo’s lineup: (third party and first party)
        windwaker
        wonderful 101
        super mario 3d world
        rayman legends
        tropical freeze
        blackflag
        and watchdogs
there’s more but it would take too long to list them all. Man Nintendo’s lineup is meh. (jk)

  1. Nintendo has too much money stockpiled to just go belly up, the Wii U will pick up soon. Something Nintendo needs to do though is focus more on console rather than handheld, they’ve already got that market clinched. Android and iOS games aren’t games, they’re apps.

    1. I’m an original Nintendo Fan, been one since the start. 34 yrs old. But honestly, I don’t think the WiiU will pick up… Maybe a little, maybe if they get some iconic games out, it will help, but we are looking at a GameCube situation as our best-case scenario here my friend. I hope they don’t hold back with the WiiU’s successor. I would rather see Nintendo go out in a ball of flames, with a Kick-ass system, then see them fizzle like this. :/

      1. I feel like Wii U is just a next-gen-like console to prepare for their NEXT console. I hate that I have to say that I’m REALLY looking forward to their next console, rather than the one that just released not even a year ago.

We’ll only know for sure after Christmas. Once everyone releases their sales and news, we’ll have a clear picture of what to expect.

        1. I disagree, I’m not thinking about their next console at all yet, the Wiiu is pretty awesome and has a lot of potential and a lot to prove.

          1. Agreed. And I’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed my GameCube. I was a huge fan even if it wasn’t their most popular system… It had some fantastic games, just as the WiiU will get. WiiU will be a fun and beautiful system, I just don’t think we can expect it to take off unless Developers find it’s to expensive / not profitable to develop for the other two (which is entirely possible.)

            1. The Gamecube is my favorite ever console and Metroid prime 1 my favorite ever game. N64 a very close second, The 2 coolest and most pure gaming consoles! Wiiu feels like one of those consoles! With games like W101 , Pikmin 3 etc it is turning into another cult smash from Nintendo.

      2. That’s a bit too much pessimism imo.

I recon Wiiu will get to about 40 million+units lifetime as opposed to the Gamecubes 25 million.

Wiiu isn’t even a year old yet and we still have Mario 3D world , Windwaker HD , Donkey Kong , Wii fit U , Wii party U , Sonic , Holiday season sales.
By the end of the year the Wiiu should be at about 6M+ units which by comparison to the 360 (7.5M in first year) isn’t bad at all!

The thing that hurt Gamecube sales SO MUCH was the lack of DVD playback, it made much more sense for the casual consumer to by a device with a DVD player (PS2)

Another thing is that I’ve said from the start, Nintendo and the Wiiu don’t need to match the sales of Wii , PS3 , PS2 , DS or anything else… all they need to really do is make a profit. Sustainability is guaranteed that way.
For example selling 30 Million units at a large profit is better than selling 80M units at a large loss.

  2. again i say, so easy to bash anything with Nintendo on it when tbh all 3 companies are probs in the poo

    1. Nope. Microsoft and Sony don’t have a problem with their image.

Nintendo is viewed as kiddy. I don’t think they are, but whether they are or are not doesn’t matter AT ALL. All that matters is what the consumers think. A large percentage of gamers are teenagers. Most teens don’t like to look kiddish or “behind” because they’re self conscious and whatnot. Don’t want their friends thinking bad of them. That’s why I see lots of casuals just buying a 360. Because all their friends play it and they want to fit in.

MS and Sony are the ones getting all the multi-plats. That’s where all the games are. (Except for Nintendo first-party of course.) You want to have access to all the AAA third-party titles? Get a PS4/Xbox One.

People saying, “You don’t buy a Nintendo console for third-party titles. You buy it only for first-party. I’ll get a PS4 for third-party,” just confirm the fact that Nintendo doesn’t have that right image. Nintendo SHOULD be getting the multiplats of the same quality and gameplay as MS & Sony, but because of the Wii era, they lost it.

Personally, I think the third-party devs just got used to making their games for just MS and Sony and/or PC. Now Nintendo strolls along asking for another port devs aren’t used to making, and saying, “Make content for the SECOND screen.” Why, if the devs haven’t been making games for Nintendo for 7 or so years, should they port over when it’s not as powerful, has a lower install base, and is unnecessary? By unnecessary, I mean they can just put their games on PS/XB and they’ll do just as fine as they’ve been doing the past 7 years.

This will turn out like the GameCube era. Next generation, if no one has dropped out of the console race, Nintendo needs to release their console AS POWERFUL as the other consoles. Power DOESN’T matter. But once consumers know one console is significantly underpowered compared to the others, they won’t look at it the same way. Nintendo needs to release it around the same time as the others, so their tech will be as up-to-date as possible. They need to CHANGE THEIR IMAGE.

      1. Actually, Sony and Microsoft are viewed as the companies that have all the bloody war games. Their problem is that they dont realize that not attracting families will lead them to their demise. Parents are not going to buy a console for their household that produces games that expose their children to unappropriate content. Nintendo is only known as ”kiddie” by either the idiotic fanboys or the kids that are not supposed to be playing COD.

”The surest sign of immaturity is the never ending desire to appear mature”

People are moving to mobile devices and Nintendo is smart, they are creating a fun experience because there will be a time when people will get tired of COD and the other usual FPS and will look for unique and fun experiences.

The thing that these people dont understand is that Nintendo is a videogame console company. They reduce the price of their consoles by providing acceptable graphics and innovative experiences. They make videogame consoles, not $400 multimedia box. If you are looking for a multimedia box, then Nintendo is not for you.

Like Reggie says, ”ITS ALL ABOUT THE GAMES”.

        1. Except for all the millions of people who like those “bloody war games.”

Parents will buy whatever their kids want. No console is full of mature content only. Parents will buy their kids the console for sure, but not all the games. They’ll let their kids play what they deem appropriate.

Honestly, what you said doesn’t contradict what I said at all lol. Our comments don’t really have anything to do with one another.

          1. If you think parents will buy whatever their kids want, you should ask more than one parent. Not many parents succumb to their children because, at the end of the day, the money comes out of their pockets. Most parents associate Playstation with bloody war games. Believe me, I have heard hundreds, if not thousands of parent conversations about videogames. Unlike the current generation of parents who some mindlessly buy their kids videogames without looking at the rating, the coming generation will be more informed, worsening their image.

            1. “Unlike the current generation of parents who some mindlessly buy their kids videogames without looking at the rating”

What I said was, they’ll buy the machine but will check the games. We’re far enough along that parents are now ones who grew up with video games and know a bit of what they entail. Obviously there are exceptions, but I know plently of people who got consoles from their parents, relatives, or with their own money.

          2. Sorry, but that is bullshit, I bought a PS3 way before a Wii and you know how many games I own for it? 6, and you know how many games I own for Wii? More than 25.
I’ve really wanted to buy more PS3 games, but there aren’t any that appeal to my interests (Which aren’t really that exclusive, simply “Not some sort of CoD recolor; I even own Bayonetta).
I can’t seriously step into a game store without being repulsed by the PS3 and 360 section, all games are exactly the same, shooters or pseudo-adventure games that focus on how many wrinkles and beauty marks they can put into the face of their characters.

          3. if parents are being pushovers and allowing their kids to trample over them then i question the parenting skills

      2. “You want to have access to all the AAA third-party titles? Get a PS4/Xbox One.”

If you’re referring to this fall’s lineup, why do that when they (and GTAV) will also be available on the ps3 and 360 as well? Instead of dropping 400/500 on a console that plays the same games as your older console, why not get a Wii U and have access to a good number of games you won’t get anywhere else? That’s what I feel will be Nintendo’s angle this holiday season.

It seems shortsighted, but seeing a large jump in console sales could be enough to encourage more 3rd party devs to release games for it. As far as Nintendo “forcing” people to make stuff for the second screen, there are several games that barely even use it.

      3. I’m 16 and I like the so-called “kiddy” games. Blood makes me squeamish. I’ve never been into shooters either, besides Halo: Reach, Goldeneye 007 and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Oh, and if Fur Fighters counts, that too. (Fur Fighters is my favorite game ever)

  3. Is funny how they don’t show any hint of why they came to that conclusion. Nintendo builds new bigger HQ with having to ask for money or firing people and Nintendo is doomed Sony have to sell even the bed they sleep in and investors say buy Sony stock. I’m planing a visit to Brazil just so I can get facepalmed by the Jesus statue.

    1. History repeating itself, except replace Wii U or 3DS with Gamecube, Apple i07 with Microsoft Xbox. That one actually took Microsoft coming out and having to say Nintendo is too big of a company to buy up.

Yes stocks go up and down all of the time, but it has little bearing on a companies health unless the majority of their money is with investors. Yes, the stock has lost value….has it effected Nintendo? Not really. Is Nintendo the type of company you should ever invest stock in? No, they don’t pay good dividends and the stock rarely rises and falls much. If you are really looking to make money in the stock, either invest in a company you believe in during its early up coming days (also sometimes a fallen company on its way back up) which is high risk, but high pay off. OR do a spread with an investment firm for a slow but steady return.

    2. I’ve been hearing “Nintendo is going SEGA” since the GameCube era, no real evidence to back such absurd claims, just people talking shit.
Expect Microsoft and Sony to start adapting their tablets/handhelds/new “revolutionary” controllers to be a Wii U GamePad knock-off when in four years Wii U demonstrates how you make games to appeal a wide audience; right after they and their paid minions spent two-three years talking shit about it, just like they did with the DS/3DS’ Touch Screen and Wii’s Wiimote.

    1. If Apple made a dedicated gaming system, people would still buy it because it’s Apple – like they do their phones, media players, and computers that cost an arm and a leg.

Games wouldn’t be that much though. They’d likely stick with their current apps model and if they get physical games they would be insane to go beyond anything other than the industry standard at the time.

      1. Actually if you look at the amount of iPhones and iPads sold they have been in a down hill decline so saying that is like saying the Atari Jaguar was actually the best system ever made…

  4. I find it funny how you failed to mention about how Motley Fool owns stock in Microsoft. So of course they’re going to hop on the Nintendo hate bandwagon. Seriously…

  5. Predictable.
Cut The Rope, Angry Birds and shit like that have been selling like hotcakes on 3DS eShop.
No doubt mobile games will strike video game industry, they ain’t cost a poop to develop and people buy them with their eyes closed.
I think I saw a news about it a few months ago, explaining how console games sold like 30% less or something like that. Lots o’ troubles going on there.
If you want to claim to be a gamer, just don’t buy mobile games anymore, and why would you anyway ?

    1. To be sincere those are not bad either and many other ios games would definitely be better with actual buttons.

      1. They may be funny to play for a few hours when you’re bored in class, waiting for your train and so on, but they are absolutely not good games, nope.
Apple are already full of money by fucking naive people with their $500 stuff, don’t support them in their greediness, especially when it threatens video games…

        1. I never bough a apple that is not edible. I just bough games on my 3ds that looks fun so is not my fault they are on ios too.

  6. HOLD UP.
    I CAN NOW USE CONTROLLERS?
I love my 3ds geeze, handheld gaming might soon become obsolete if the games for android and ios get better.

    1. I wouldn’t care about Apple because they are completely irrelevant.

Every mid range Android phone is a hell of a lot more powerful, cheaper and featurewise richer than the iphone 5 but they didn’t take over the gaming world.

      1. If Apple decided to launch into console gaming, it would take some times to set up but you can count on a HUGE advertising campaign to make stupidos buy their product. Stupidos like to buy lots o’ products, especially when there is a bitten apple on its back, sign of their credulity.

  7. I wouldn’t worry about Apple. They are irrelevant with their underpowered uncompetitive phone hardware. They are.no match for the Android phones.

    Anyways,

Why do you think is it that way ? It’s because the Wii was a colossal failure from a gamers standpoint. It had some gems but what else? My whole Wii collection equals what I get on PC within less than a year.

I do know that graphics don’t make a game but this is no excuse for underpowering a console on purpose.

    But anyways……..

Now before I get a reply with what a fat sad excuse of a fucken lifeless trolling gay fat fat gay gay fat Bastard I am, I tell you that the games not possible on Wii U are due to CPU/GPU being too weak but because of the small memory pool compared to PS4/NSA/PC.

  8. I like how people forget that Sony and Microsoft are in no better position. If the ps4 doesn’t skyrocket, Sony’s done (I want it to succeed ofcourse). And correct me if I’m wrong but I heard that they were planning on ditching the xbox division because it wasn’t making enough money or something. Why is it so popular to hate on something successful?

    1. That idea you mentioned, to hate on something successful, is ingrained into everyone’s minds for some reason.
“He makes more money than me! I should be compensated!” <—society's jealousy.

    2. because people dont like competition or threats, they want their favourite company to monopolise the industry

      1. Those people are stupid. By having a competitor, both sides will strive to make better products for consumers which will benefit both sides. No competition will just make the company lazy and create half-ass stuff.

  9. If anything is going to kill Nintendo it’s going to be their own failed business practices, not because of Apple.
How many gamers would ever switch from the console they have now to Apple? They’d have to be retarded.

Nintendo will be okay. Although I do wish they would do a lot of things differently…

    1. i was at gamestop one day and this guy was returning a PS3 he bought for his son because he’d rather have an iPod touch, needless to say, the kid’s probably banging his sister.

        1. I saw it and I think he did a better journalist job than many professionals and I did not posted that.

  10. I call bullshit on this… if that happened Nintendo and its stock wouldn’t be promoted up to the Nikkei Elite… smh

      1. Pft advance wars for me. That game realy has value especially whit the map Creator but my fave is dual strike.

          1. Surely is a great game but the topic is replay value after all both are Nintendo gameswe fighting about wich one is better is like a lottery winner angry than he just won the big jackpot.

  11. Mobile phones will never be a proper gaming platform… They get a new hardware revision and new software every goddamn year. Like I’d be needing to buy a new cell phone to play a new game every fucking year, while a handheld will stay consistent over a span of 6 years

    1. And – considering how many games get released, plus how long the consoles last (the Xbox One is designed for 10 years of CONTINUOUS use) – you really don’t NEED to replace a console until the end of the next generation.

Live behind a gen and you can get a console and many games for it for the same price that the console would have cost 7 years ago.

  12. The day Apple gets taken seriously in the gaming world is the day the world ends. Seriously is there anyone in the analyst industry that says $0.99 games have never been a threat and will never be a threat to actual console gaming.

    1. Why should it be any? We are talking about how much value a company lost not money. Kids should interrupt adults conversations so begone.

        1. I’m used to it, some people may not think so but Nintendo is the market leader, they are dominating the handheld market and are generating the most profit in the industry. I also wish they would leave Apple and Android out of this. The fight is only between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.

      1. I was there when the N64, GBA Advanced, GCN, and DS (if you count it as a retro console). The thing is that, I wasn’t aware of all of the popular Nintendo franchise-s.

Basically I only got Pokemon, Mario, this one game were there’s a ninja with blue hair and eyes like he’s high (N64 game), and a few minor 3rd party games like ones that THQ made. Anything after that doesn’t exist in my memory…

I also had a PS2. I loved playing Spyro on it; Oh what great memories I had :)

Forgive me if I didn’t explained it to you at the time.

  13. This cant be right. (or maybe it is, Nintendo, get your act together!)
All I want from Nintendo is:
    1. Better online infrastructure, starting with an account system and acknowledging that the interwebs can be a great thing.+actually equipping stores with eshop cards
    2. More ergonomics for their handhelds (the DS gives me hand-cramps)
    3. You know, those generation-defining, multi-million-selling games, like GTA, RE, MGS, Minecraft, Fifa, should also, just maybe, hit their console, no?
    4. Making less popular franchises happen, like no more heroes 3, Redsteel 3,Zombi U 2 or new VJ but looking at F-Zero and Star Fox, no chance :(

      1. Nintendo has to make it happen, THEY have to shape their console, third parties will just do whatever gives them quick money (unless they are smart). The Wii GOT shaped into a party/gimmick console. Anyway, I would also love to see a less ambitious 3d Rayman Platformer on the WiiU. They dont have to make huge budget games, just give Rayman a Gimmick and base a small new game around that, while only focusing on fun gameplay and not pushing the budget with fancy graphics. (Which is what they did with ZombiU and I cant believe it wasnt profitable!)

    1. i want Zombi 3D and Zombi 2 cause it would be good on handheld aswell with the prepper pad thing plus 3D gimmik is very fun to me still.. >.> i have only played mt 3DS games in 3d you really get used to it and i would be upset if the next handheld doesn’t have that gimmik as a option :(

  14. Apple has about 14% world wide market share and starts to support 3rd party controllers.
Android has over 80% and support that controllers for several years, but they hardly replace gameconsoles.
So why should apple be dangerous for Nintendo?

    1. Apple has been losing money faster than any company out there. They’ve gone to shit since Steve died. Apple will not survive for much longer. If anything I predict Apple will be irrelevant in a few years and everything will be Android. Even if Android comes out o top over Apple, they will hardly be a problem for Nintendo. Mobile gaming is just not a serious threat to Nintendo’s handheld products. If the 3DS can survive against app store games right now, then the 3DS’ successor will be able to survive.

  15. Load of bullshit, I’ll see it when I believe it. Have fun playing Pokemon x and y on your iphone and link between worlds and monster Hunter , etc. Oh wait you can’t…

    Viva la Nintendo mofo’s!

    1. ”Once iconic” did I miss something, when did they become less iconic? they get more and more iconic as time goes by.

      1. This… Mario is as iconic as Mickey mouse, and Nintendo is almost as iconic as Disney. All they need is a theme park ;)

            1. This would certainly be one of the themes also. Basically it would be just loads of N64 game music in the theme park! best. place . ever.

                  1. Pretty sure i’m not ice. And what do you mean how many times will i keep up with this? You’ve obviously not been around long enough to know who i even am. Think before you speak cumstain

                    1. Nope. I’m your friendly neighbor Pinwheel. I don’t need to pretend to be anyone else :)

                  2. for a 30 year old you disappoint me…… you have way to many assumptions. do you want to know something though….. im Nintedward, mind blown.

  16. if this is the case then why is sony still here why is Chrysler GM still selling cars and the motherfucker even hard the nerve to compare apple to game console. damn. sad

  17. no real gamer games on the iphone or ipad so apple is irrelevant. if nintendo wants to get back in relevancy they need to ditch the ds and wii brand for next gen and surprise gamers again.

    1. I wouldn’t say no real gamer games on smartphones or tablets. I know quite a few, including some professional gamers, who also play games on their mobile devices in addition to their home consoles, PC’s, and dedicated gaming handhelds.

      1. I look at it like this roughly, PC are akin to consoles in the same way tablets are akin to handheld consoles. Market overlap, but one doesn’t cancel out the other, cause they are not for the same purposes.

  18. I have said this before and I will said it again…I will NEVER EVER replace my Gaming consoles with Android or Apple mobile devices. There’s a certain limit to anything. Smartphones and tablets were created to help us in certain things, but as a gaming machine? No, thanks. Besides, Nintendo has the best exclusives games and some of the most Iconic ones in the world. Nintendo would never give up those gems, so why would they be in trouble again?

    1. To suggest IOS and android can replace the likes of Nintendo is like suggesting that instant coffee could replace Peculated fresh coffee beans….

  19. 2007 was before the world-wide recession you numnut reporters. Nintendo was far from being the only one who lost a large number of their value. Everyone was effected. For example, Sony, back in 2007, was worth more than two-hundred and fifty billion US dollars. Now they are barely worth 30 billion. Where’s the article on that? Besides, Nintendo is still worth roughly $17,000,000,000, that’s a loss of 68 billion, so yeah, about 76%. However, Sony’s loss in the recession is even larger. From 250 to 30 billion is roughly a loss of 85% of their original value, and unlike Nintendo, who has next to no financial debts to pay off, Sony is selling off their major resources to pay off fractions of their debt. Where are the investors article on this? You’ll never see it, because Sony still has the money to pay the people off, while Nintendo focuses on putting money into needed resources, and paying their investors the percentage that they originally agreed to. However, investors are probably mad that Nintendo won’t pay them more than what they agreed to, like Sony does. So they will mark the company off as doomed to make Nintendo feel threatened enough to pay them to shut up. It happens all the time. The only thing investors care about is lining their pockets. They don’t care how innovative the company is, they don’t care if Nintendo puts out quality product. If it doesn’t look like an instant profit for the investor, he or she will doom say them until they are paid. So all-in-all, nobody should care what these people say. Nintendo puts out quality product that sells, and investors are mad that Nintendo rakes in the leaves, and they don’t. As a consumer, I care only for getting quality product that’s worth the money I paid, the same money I work every day for, and Nintendo does a great job at that. I couldn’t care less if the investors say otherwise, millions of people feel the same, and that’s why Nintendo is still going strong, and will continue to do so for many years to come. We’re talking about the New York Yankees of video games, Nintendo isn’t going any-freakin-where, and so long as they continue to put out quality product that consumers love, no amount of doom saying these greedy investors do will change that. Nintendo has enough money to make it through 50,000 rainy days, and investors are not getting any of that. #DealWithIt

  20. Too bad you have to really dig deep to find anything faulty on other consoles besides Nintendo. Yet to find negatively on Nintendo just google “Wii U.”

  21. The only thing Nintendo is good at is making baby games. But you know how easy it is to amuse babies, just put something jumping in the screen and they will be entertained for hours. This formula has worked marveously with every iteration of their Mario games.

    1. I find it baffling that people use the same stupid insults year after year…. You’re going to call Nintendo games “baby games?” Seriously…that’s just plain OLD. Everyone knows that Nintendo’s demographic is the largest in the industry. People of all ages from 7 year olds to 15, to 20, to 30 and 40. Heck the Wii Fit got people in their 60’s and 70’s to play video games.

Can you please, please go ask a doctor to replace the brain cells in your head that you so obviously lost at some point in your life?

  22. Why don’t you all just enjoy the games? There’s no need to be bashing other companies who could care less about your opinions. I mean, I don’t like the Xbox or PS at all,and I will never buy any of their products, but just because I love Nintendo I won’t go around blogs like this to waste my time like a retard. Seriously, most of you all are 21+, grow up a little bit.

  23. You guys say Iphone and Android arent game devices and apps aren’t games. Yet a smartphones are way more powerful than the 3DS and have even better battery life and that will just contrinue. Game apps are just starting out they have plenty of awesome hardcore games and the list will just grow and grow especially with controller and tv support. Face it Nintendo wont or cant make harder in the future they just cant compete even with mario.

    1. People always talk about how Smartphones are selling “more” games than 3DS and Vita combined. BUT, what they fail to address is how much money these games cost. Nintendo sells a lot of games at a value of $40-45 dollars for the 3DS while a game on a mobile phone would be $.99. That is a HUGE difference.

Also, they don’t clarify whether the so called “sales” include free games off the app store. There are SOOOO MANY games that you can download for free on your iPod and iPad and Android. Yet, these “statistics” never tell us if the data contains these purchases as well as the ones people paid for.

Basically, I think people are distorting the facts to make it sound like Nintendo and SONY are doomed in the handheld market….well IDK about SONY, but Nintendo is doing just fine. In fact, they are doing GREAT.

      1. So let me get this straight… According to you its a bad thing that smartphone’s have free games? You guys always have the same argument. Smartphone games arent games. Well thats not true and you know it. You know that smartphone games are getting better and better and once controller support goes mainstream they will be fully hardcore games. Why would anyone carry around two devices when they only need one and they can shove their bluetooth controller in their bag or something. Smartphone games will always have backwards compatibility forever something Nintendo will never have. Smartphones also have wireless data so you can play online games anywhere even without a wifi connection. With smartphones you can choose from many different devices and controllers. With nintendo you have to choose between 3ds and 2ds lol.

        1. “Why would anyone carry around two devices when they only need one and they can shove their bluetooth controller in their bag or something.”

yeah because that’s gonna happen… “hey i have my super flat smartphone on me which hardly takes up any space.. oh and my bulky bluetooth controller of which i have no idea where to put it”

        2. also what you’re trying to list as an advantage, that players have many devices to choose from, is actually a disadvantage.. there is absolutely no guarantee that every game will work without troubles with every smartphone/controller combination.. smartphones are even worse than PCs in that regard

and neither do they have backwards compatibility forever.. smartphone games are written for different OS versions.. while they may work on several at any point in time they are not guaranteed to run on every old version of the OS

newer games WILL be targeted at newer OS versions due to new features and may not work at all on older devices.. and it works the other way round too.. older games are made to work with older OS versions and may not work on future releases anymore much like you have it happening with games that were created for windows XP or even earlier that won’t work on a windows 7 machine or newer

          1. So much true! My angry birds star wars used to work on my cell till they give the game a patch now it is not compatible.

            1. If that is a problem than simply switch to iphone. But I believe Google will go proprietary and phase out android it introduce chromephone

  24. That just means it is a great time to invest in Nintendo stock. I would be very surprised if every other game developer’s “value” DIDN’T drop 76% like Nintendo has over the past 5 years. It’s not like Nintendo was the only company facing the recession in the world…

  25. the beginning of the end? because of stock market values? are they kidding? stock market values have no relevance whatsoever when trying to determine how healthy a company is.. none at all

    what a ridiculous statement

  26. Anyway to filter out the pointless “news” featuring the biased negative opinions (good job promoting them, by the way -_-) of nobodies?

  27. I would like to start a tradition. Whenever we see an article like this anywhere on the Internet, or whenever it seems a reminder is needed, we should respond with our favorite memories of Nintendo. So I will start. The first time I played a Nintendo game was with my father and his sister on the NES. It was Super Mario Bros. I would watch them speed through the level and feel complete exhilaration as they finally killed bowser and saved the princess. All these years later I still feel the same exhilaration as together we slay bowser in New Super Mario Bros U. In my family Mario is not a game it is a tradition. Join me as we prove that Nintendo is not just about the games it is about tradition, memories, and compassion. Share your memories across the Internet, it is time for a morale booster!

  28. hhhmmmmm really, is it because their irrelevant?? Is it because iwata and reggie the pizza hut faggot guiness book of world records tools are operating. Also where is all the franchises, 3rd party, online?? Irrelevant is a shitty wastepad that doesnt even get used for anything in exchange for a inferior console that will just be like the wii, gimmicks and shovelware. perfect for the nintendrones they can play the next killer app carnival games 2.

    1. No dear, we’ll be playing our next Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda games, AKA, the best rated games of history, together with great 3rd party exclusives like Monster Hunter, Bayonetta and Shin Megami Tensei.
Oh, but don’t worry, you’ll get your yearly Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed recolors, so you can pay 60 bucks for the same game you’ve been playing since your mommy bought you your PS2.

      1. Slit your wrist you faggot fuck. Hope your parents contract a disease and die a slow painful death. Be cool to pee and shit on your grave too.

        1. Wishing pain and death upon someone?
Look, he can be the most annoying troll ever, but wishing suffering and despair on him and his relatives is one of the most inhumane things you can do.

          1. okay, he’s the troll here. only a troll would wish for slow and painful deaths over criticizing NINTENDO. either that, or he’s just nuts

  29. Saying Nintendo caters to 12 and under is utter bullshit. I was 12 when the NES came out and a Nintendo fan ever since. This article is complete crap and so is the idiots who post this shit to get hits.

  30. Yet Sony is in the same spot at the moment… I love how the trolls keep giving this site the bad news while the actual fans of the company give them good news about Nintendo

    1. I submitted this story. Everyone who knows me on this site knows I’m not a troll. Plus Sickr and his staff are the ones who publish the stories we submit.

I submit a lot of different things, both positive and negative. If it pertains to Nintendo, I’ll submit it. It’s up to Sickr to publish it or not.

Why should I show bias and only submit positive stories?

    2. On that note, this is a Nintendo site. Check other sites which report on other companies and you’ll find tons of negative news for Sony and Microsoft.

  31. It’s only because Wii solds extremely well causing their stocks to triple. They slowly went back to normal after Wii’s hype died down. Do you really expect them to be able to pull off another Wii with the blind hate they get from the media?

    1. I also find it so funny that they always bring up Apple and/or Android devices when something bad happens to them.

  32. Everything made sense until Eit could be the beginning of the end for the once iconic video game as Apple looks to enter the video game market”, i stopped reading there.

  33. “The Motley Fool recommends Apple. The Motley Fool owns shares of Apple and Microsoft.”

Right at the end of the article…

  34. I really wish I’d start hearing GOOD news about Nintendo for once. If Nintendo ever dropped out of the video game industry, I probably wouldn’t remain a gamer. Nintendo is the only company I ever really cared about. Not counting the Atari 2600 and Odyssey 2 (which was my first 2 loved consoles as a child). I can’t even imagine a world without Nintendo. It wouldn’t be right. Seeing other game consoles and knowing that Nintendo was no longer around, even though they’re the whole reason that games are alive today.

The world NEEDS Nintendo. Without them, all we’d have is Call Of Duty and other first-person games. In other words, VIOLENCE, VIOLENCE, VIOLENCE (and sex and drugs).

  35. Damn, bad news, bad news, more badnews. Why can’t we ever hear anything good for Nintendo!? They’re an irreplaceable game company, I don’t want to to see them die…

  36. “The publication claims that it could be the beginning of the end for the once iconic video game” Uhhhh…. “Nintendo” isn’t a video game. Unless the writer of this article forgot the word “company”, then they have no clue what they are talking about and I can take their opinion as shit.
