Nintendo failed miserably to win any awards at this year’s Golden Joystick awards despite users nominating the company for a respectable thirteen awards. Grand Theft Auto V beat Pikmin 3 and Fire Emblem Awakening to win the coveted Game Of The Year award. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was awarded the Most Wanted award, beating Super Smash Bros Wii U. Nintendo didn’t have any luck in the handheld category as Assassin’s Creed: Liberation for the PlayStation Vita took best handheld game. You can see the awards below.

GTAV deserves a 10/10 for most money spent on a game, a 3/10 for it’s polish, 9/10 for longevity, 5/10 for it’s originality and 7/10 for story. All in all the game is a solid 34/50 which is a 68%

Its not even a decent vita game, theres constant frame drop, it runs at like 15fps, the chatacter is slower than any other AC protagonist, the controls are slopy, and story is tacked in. Its one of the worst AC creed games.

Gta deserves goty I think, it was hyped up for five years and I guess it exceeded what everyone thought but the others no. Last of us was good but not a master piece. ACL for best handheld no, it received so many back lashes, killzone mercenaries was better, it pushed the vita to its limits, or in my opinion Pokémon, it was revolutionary and great.

No, Pikmin has great replayability in comparison, GTA is a one week game and you get sick of it after that, it’s always the same, nothing really new to keep you entertained more than one month.
I’m not too sure I agree with you about the longetivity of Pikmin 3, however, I do keep coming back to it from time to time, and I’ll buy the DLC whenever I feel like it. My friends have been playing GTA like it never gets old, but I can say different. X needs to come so I can adventure with my pals.
I love Pikmin 3 but I don’t think it could’ve beaten GTA V. Maybe SSB4 or Mario Kart if they were released this year, but not Pikmin 3.

When Mr. Yamauchi was in charge Nintendo used to be a more diversified company that made all sorts of different types of games. They had awesome 2nd party studios like Rare, Silicon Knights, Left Field, the good relationship with Factor 5 (Goldeneye, Conker, Perfect Dark, Excitebike64, Eternal Darkness, all the Star Wars games, they had Wave Race, 1080° ). A variety of games that appealed to the gamers who aren’t interested in the baby Mario and whatnot games. But Nintendo decided to sell all those awesome 2nd party studios years ago and decided to concentrate on the baby games. (only the blind fanboys who think their beloved Nintendo can do no wrong would say selling Rare wasn’t a mistake). Now with Mr. Iwata in charge Nintendo is the baby games company.
Since now mostly babies play Nintendo consoles they don’t understand that and can’t tell there is a difference in todays Nintendo and the one from a few years ago, they only have known the Nintendo that makes baby games.
First point, many adults play Nintendo games still as well as the new kids just starting. Mario games are great, as are most of the games Nintendo makes. Nintendo didn’t “sell” Rare, Microsoft bought a larger stake in the company than Nintendo had, so they had to make games for Microsoft. What do you call them making Bayonetta 2 if they are only a baby company?
The thing is, Nintendo doesn’t only put out Baby games. Ever heard of Star Fox, Golden Sun, Smash Bros., Metroid, F-Zero, Fire Emblem, Sin & Punsishment, Brain Age, The Wonderful 101, Xenoblade, Kid Icarus?

AC III: Liberation sold close to 1 million (if not more) copies on Vita. Something like 800k physical and the rest digital downloads. That’s how many people played it.
While I agree that AC III: Liberation shouldn’t have received the award, quantity sold =/= quality of the games. Vita had a ton of games that were better and so did Nintendo. C’est la vie.

It got mixed reviews and so what if it was on Vita? Yeah, other games should have won over Liberation, but it has nothing to do with the platform. There were better handheld games on Vita and 3DS.

It doesn’t matter from that standpoint that all of us have our own preferences on what games we like and all that matters is that each of us gets our money’s worth on each game or console we buy.
It does matter however from the standpoint that such obvious bias whether justified or unjustified in the long run can cause damage to the overall success of the system Right now the Wii U is looking a perhaps a GameCube situation that despite actually being a capable console that will have many great 1st-party titles, lack of 3rd-party support combined with public media bias will prevent people from giving it a chance.
The western market doesn’t even acknowledge Nintendo anymore unless they are bashing them. It’s only gonna get worse. Even with the Wii U sales increasing. The Wii U could literally sell double the amount it did last holiday season (3.06 million) and no one will care. People care more about the PRE-ORDER sales of the PS4 (which is guarantee of nothing) than the actual sales of the Wii U. That is unless they are focusing on negative numbers.
No talks about how the 3DS continues to destroy everything and that even BEFORE Pokemon X and Y, price drop, and 2DS. The sales for the 3DS will be off the page by the time the holiday season is done.

Even though the game wasn’t that great, learn your facts first: AC III Liberation was not a port. It was a game made exclusively for the Vita from the ground up. Sales were pretty good, closing in at 1 million (almost 800k physical the rest digital).
I’m not sure why it won, I don’t think it should have won that category either, but yeah.. at least there are the facts.

How is Witcher 3 more wanted than Smash Bros U. Never even heard of it. Fuck that. Fuck this list. Everyone’s taste in gaming has narrowed down to a ridiculous point. What a pathetic state things are in.
The fact that GTA5 won game of the year tells me this list is nonsense. There was nothing amazing about that game. Overrated garbage, in my opinion.
You guys should not be upset by all this. We all know the purpose of the awards and that is for promotion. It doesn’t determine the quality of the game.( For people who don’t know The Witcher series is basically a better Mass Effect and better Elder Scrolls all put into one. I’m glad it is getting some love. Even though the awards are bullshit lol).
So what if Nintendo didn’t win any Golden Joystick awards? They don’t need that prize. That event is like the MTV awards; lots of shitty pop stars receive awards for their disposable music as opposed to the truly talented musicians and bands. True gamers know which games truly deserve attention. And true gamers know these “awards” don’t mean shit. And, no, I’m not typing all this because I’m angry that Nintendo didn’t win anything. I’m not angry.
Shouldn’t one of those categories be like “Best RPG of the year”? Pretty sure the Nintendo 3DS would dominate the competitors of that category :)

I agree that AC III Liberation shouldn’t have won, but other Vita games could have. If it wasn’t for the fact that P4G was a remaster and upgrade, I would say that should have won the category.
Other than that, I would have been happy to see LBP PS Vita, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Hotline Miami, or Animal Crossing: New Leaf walk away with the award.
Nintendo doesn’t win awards any more. They could have an epic year where every game they make has no equal and they still wouldn’t win anything. We all just have to accept that they get some recognition in terms of nominations, but they won’t win anything.
Until another true masterpiece like Galaxy comes along and sweeps up those GOTY awards like a runaway train (which it did back in 2007, it won everything under the sun), Nintendo are just going to be consigned to being merely briefly mentioned. That’s the way of modern gaming, whether you like it or not.
A generic shooter as the best multiplayer and an the worst Assassin Creed game ever made as the best handheld game? These two cathegories show how much those guys know about gaming. Who cares about these highly biased awards ?
